"Jennings Terrace is a very special place. My mom is there and she is 100 years old. She lives on the independent living side, but she is surrounded by people who care for her and love her for who she is. It’s not the kind of place that wants to gouge you. It’s the kind of place that sincerely cares about people. The staff is exceptional at what they do and exceptional at understanding people from different walks of life. They are able to have compassion for my mom and her health or mental health difficulties that we all have at times throughout life. I am so thankful that my mom is at Jennings Terrace. There are a lot fancier places, but I don’t think there is more skill or care or compassion in those places. This is home for my mom and she is happy there. We decorated her room and she loves it. She goes and sits out by the big cozy fireplace and watches a movie with other residents when the weather is cooler. And, when we walk in are usually greeted by someone who gives us a smile or a group of people playing games and laughing in the game room. This is home for my mom and I am so thankful to Esther Daphne, Diana, Keosha, Diane and all the other staff members that I haven’t named that make sure that things run smoothly. I live out of state and I know my mom is cared for, and it means so much!"

"Sunnymere was a nice place, and it looked very homey. The inside looked like it had been updated, and it was very nice. I enjoyed it very much. It just felt very comfortable. Outside was amazing. The property sits on a golf course, and it's at the end of the block, so it doesn't have a lot of traffic. The staff member who assisted me with the tour was very friendly, very knowledgeable, and very positive about the place. The room that I saw was exceptional. It was very clean and very roomy. It was just appropriate for a senior. The dining area was pretty run of the mill for a senior living environment. It was fine and very social. At the time that I was there the residents were playing bingo, and they all seemed happy."

"We toured Bickford of Oswego. It was very nice. It was basically what we were looking for. They had a lot of flexibility there. We're on a waiting list, basically, just to see what the options are. The staff gave me a walking tour around. I saw multiple rooms and talked to some of the staff. It was very nice. She gave me brochure information and pricing. I was asking for a couple of different-sized rooms, so they were able to show me what they had. They don't have any available, but she asked different people if it was okay to show their rooms and they agreed. They were all very nice and friendly and they agreed. I was able to take some pictures and just see the sizes of the rooms. I'm concerned because my mother needs to have a knee replacement with one, if not both. I asked about physical therapy after that, and they can have physical therapy done right in there. And then if my mother doesn't need the assisted living site, she can come stay there for a while, but she doesn't need to stay there forever. We can have an out. So, it kind of meets our needs as far as being there but doesn't have to stay there forever. The staff also said all the food is made from scratch. They asked me what my mother likes to eat, what her favorite things are, and what she doesn't like to eat. I liked that a lot."

"The Woodlands at Canterfield was beautiful. The apartments were fine, clean, nice, and brand new. We met with several people and they were all very nice and professional. They had a bunch of games going. It's brand new so there were not that many people there yet. We saw people in the lunchroom and it looked very nice. The dining area was beautiful. I didn't eat there. My brother and my mom ate there and they said the food was excellent. We met with several different people and overall everybody was great, but some were better than others."

"My mom was a resident of Franciscan Court and she enjoyed living there. It is a welcoming environment and the staff truly cares about its residents. Management is very attentive and the clinical staff is excellent. The activities coordinator goes out of her way to find engaging activities for the residents and to encourage them to participate. The facility is very well maintained. Our family would highly recommend Franciscan Court."

"The best thing that I liked about Trustwell Living at Cherryvale Place was that it was clean. The people are friendly, very helpful, and knowledgeable about other avenues. The thing I didn't like is the cost of it for somebody who has more issues. They also don't have a very good evaluation process that fits each individual situation. They only have one generic. It's only private. They only take private payments or insurance. They don't take Medicaid. They have outdoor gardening. They have a barber. They have activities planned ahead of time. They have a pool table and activity areas. It was very nice."

"My mom was at the Heathers Senior Homes a couple of times For respite care. She was given excellent care from a very caring staff. The food is excellent there. It’s all homemade fresh daily. I will continue to use the Heather senior homes for future respite care for my mother."

"Bickford of Rockford was a very nice facility but too expensive for me. I didn't eat anything there except dessert. We didn't sense the friendliness, but that's because there was hardly anybody out and around; most of them were probably in their rooms."

"I will be going to Morningstar Village in Rockford assisted living. They're going to take care of me after my surgery for 6 weeks. They're very kind. They're going to let me in, 2 days early with no charge, to bring my things before my surgery. It's wonderful. I've been there and I'm going again next week to go over my paperwork. Jane was very kind and very prompt. She's the lady that runs the place, she's like a manager or whatever. During my last visit, they took me up to my room. They asked me if there would be other items that I would need so they're going to bring them. I've had a really good experience and haven't even moved in there yet. They've reserved my room and they're going to let me take my things there a couple of days before my surgery. I have everything I need and I can go right from the hospital there. The room is like a small apartment with a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, and a large bathroom with all the things I need to be safe after my surgery. They have activities like crafting and there's a place where you can get books to read, and a very nice dining room. At the entrance of the building, there's a big fireplace and it just feels warm and comfortable. Everybody is very nice, too. They have a dining room that you go to for meals, or you can have it served in your room. I have not tried the food but she said that they would bring me a menu and that would be for a week. Also, they give you the option to have a list of foods that you like or don't like so that they know that when they prepare your food, you're getting food that you enjoy. When you move in your things, they have large carts that you can roll your things in on that make everything very convenient. They also do your laundry once a week."

"I have been to a few of Heritage Woods facilities in the past and Heritage Woods of Dekalb is no exception. These facilities have top notch staff who are very caring and who actually listen to what their clients need and want. The food they serve is really good and health. The rooms do seem small but are very clean and manageable for those living there. They do all sorts of things with the residents and engage them in a productive and conducive way to keep their brains sharp. I would highly recommend. "

"Lincolnshire Place was great. The rooms were a nice size. It's very homelike and everybody seemed happy. The meals were homestyle and pretty decent. You have to call for outside transportation, but they had a nice little art center for arts and crafts, a little movie theater, and an ice cream parlor for ice cream socials. There's a lot to do for the residents. The staff was great and very helpful."
