"My dad is currently here and in the dementia locked unit. Not that it's OK, but ALL nursing homes are understaffed. Period. My dad is happier here than he was at a different nursing home. He has constant activities keeping him moving around. We take him our for lunch, visiting family, etc. any time we want. I feel that he is very taken care of here and I have seen other nursing homes. Staff reduced the hallucination drugs he was taking. He's made an improvement coming here. I understand why now whey nursing homes get a bad wrap, its a difficult job and I tried taking care of my dad at home. You are their best advocate, ask questions, drop in unannounced. "

"We visited Fairhaven and the office staff was very professional. It's a very Christian organization. The food is very good and the place is very clean and very well kept. Mom in law is very comfortable; she's always dressed nice and neat every time we go there. She's in a supportive care and they're just doing tremendously out there. The staff is very polite and very nice. They know the people they're working with and they learn their ways and habits. We already recommended this place to others. "

"I wouldn't advise anyone to take their loved one anywhere else. Are you guaranteed a private room? No, but if there are issues they address them right away. I have been so impressed with the care the residents receive. The outpatient therapy is such a great addition to have once your mom or dad goes home, they can continue on with the same therapists. The kitchen offers to make you anything you want even if its not on the menu, and they monitor weight loss and have nutritionists that work with the residents. The Social Service director is so kind, she makes sure everyone who goes home has everything they would need. The administrator is so involved and knows everything that happens and really works to make sure each resident is successful and has everything they need. I have never encountered more caring nurses and CNA's. They have an amazing DON who is also a wound care specialists and the in house Nurse Practitioner is available any time you need her, she always takes the time to speak to residents and families and answers all their questions. I like that they invite the families to care meetings along with their loved one and they have them as often as needed. I couldn't say enough about the place, its really great. "

"We tried to look at PA Peterson in Rockford. We found it very clean and very good. There are a lot of activities. They have a place for water aerobics twice a week. It is quite nice. I'm not sure that where she would go, but it is one of the places she is considering. My observation is that it is a fairly well run place. They have a shuttle, and it is a part of the package. "

"My parents used to be residents of East Bank Center. They were both there and they forgot to give my mom her thyroid medication and so she went way downhill. That place was awful. I had to call the nursing home government to report them because she could have died or gone into a coma without having her thyroid meds. She changed into a different person. She was fighting and biting them and she's never done that before. It took them three weeks to figure it out, so I was not happy. They also didn't notice the bed sores, so when she got to the new facility, they saw the bed sores. She had fallen a lot at East Bank too. At the new facility they had her bed down on a mat so if she fell it was not very far. At East Bank they didn't do that, I guess, so when she fell she'd end up in a hospital. She had a big cast on her head. They also didn't keep it clean so it was an awful experience. It was the worst place that I ever had to deal with. The staff was very friendly, there might have been a couple that weren't, but for the most part there were a couple that were very friendly. They shared rooms there. It is such a small place that I did not see anything around there. There was a little spot used for the hugging booth, like a plywood thing that you could put your arms through and you got to put these long gloves on, this was right outside the cafeteria. That's the only place that we could really see them."

"My father was at Asta Care Center. The staff was great. His room was spacious and clean. He even was allowed to bring his own big-screened TV and everything. He is a little diabetic, so he doesn't want to walk around too much, but they had him going to therapy. He didn't have a terrible time there because he stayed there for quite a while. They're great there. They were friends to me, and they were friends to my father. He was well taken care of; that's why he was released, and he was released because they actually did their job. However, there were only a few things that weren't right like the patients going into his room and stealing his stuff. "

"My brother was in River Bluff Nursing Home. The staff was outstanding, very caring, professional, and responsive. Great communication. I felt that they cared about my brother, and I felt very confident in their care, especially as he entered the last three days of his life, they were just phenomenal in the support that they gave us. The food was about what you'd expect from a nursing home with Medicaid beds. I don't think it was bad, but it isn't 5-star food. It was spacious and very clean. It's an older building, but they've done a lot to keep it looking professional and clean. The size of the rooms and layout were good, and they made sure he had a private room during his last three days before his death, so I thought it was reasonable."

"Amberwood Care Centre had a space for my father, but it was a shared room, and it looked like a hospital room, and I didn't want that for him. The rooms had hospital beds. It didn't look like the place I wanted him to be. They had TV rooms and they had eating areas. They had a rehab room, too. The staff that gave me the tour was one of the admin staff, and she was fine."

"Wesley Willows was a beautiful facility. They were very helpful. They had constant activities and good care. It could be wonderful for others who might have more resources because it's a buy-in basically. They provide the care until the day you die, which is wonderful, but you do need to have a lot of money to put down and then also a monthly fee. For the level of care that my mother needs, she would be in a room in a hospital ward. To me, it's not going to work for her. It's just not what I'm looking for right now for her. They have different levels of care. They have gorgeous duplexes, it's handicap accessible, and it's a huge campus. You can move from level to level depending on what your needs are, and I love that. The people are very nice, very friendly, very open, took a lot of time to tour all of the buildings -- they were great. They had a community garden area, and they had transportation available. "

"I stayed at Mercyhealth Care Center for therapy. It was pretty good. I thought it was very consistent. They have an entertainment center and programs which were very interesting. Then I had therapy and nurse care, which were very consistent too. The building was very modern. The meals were very nutritious and consistent. On the medical side though, they seemed to be shorthanded all the time. It was also pricey. You have to pay extra for things."

"My Father has been at Fair Oaks for over five weeks now. It is scary to put a loved one into a facility but I can say the fear went away very soon. I am so very pleased as to the excellent and very very caring care that he is getting. It seems that everyone who works there is so dedicated and works very hard to care for the patients. I am very grateful to the staff there for always communicating with me on his progress and explaining it all so well. I have no complaints but only sincere thanks and overwhelming gratitude and admiration for all the caring people that are there to help with my Father and others loved ones as well! "
