My mom is pretty set to choose Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for herself. The staff was wonderful and caring. It was a nice facility. It was clean, spacious, and welcoming. There were lots of activities going on while we were there. The residents were very active. They were eating together, doing puzzles, exercising, and all sorts of stuff. They have exercise rooms, activity rooms, and lounges on every floor. They had beautiful grounds. There was a wooded area with walking trails, and we saw a lot of seniors walking and exercising.

Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center was very nice. The price was what I liked the least about the place, and what I liked the best was how spread out it was. It's a big facility and has a big campus. It had independent living homes on the property and assisted living inside. It was a Christian-based facility, and it was very friendly. They had signs up all over the place about being kind and being very family oriented. It's very nice, but the price was prohibitive. They had a gym, a hair salon, and a little community store. They didn't have to leave just to buy personal care stuff. It's located close to the hospitals.

I visited this facility

Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center was clean and neat. The residents seemed to be pretty happy. The staff there seemed to be caring people. It was a good facility. We went there during lunch and the food looked OK, but it was nothing special. They have social hours, sing-a-long, and games. The rooms were like small apartments. They were not equipped for cooking, but they were like small 1- bedroom apartments.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has been a resident of Fairhaven in Rockford for 3 months now. She's in hospice now because she's gone downhill. She really went down during her stay at another facility so it wasn't Fairhaven's fault, they don't know my mom. When she got to Fairhaven, she had to quarantine for two weeks and then she completely stopped walking. My dad's also in Fairhaven. He's at that place with her because he had a stroke. They're not in the same room, he doesn't want to be in the same room because she's going downhill and he doesn't want to see that. He's recovering really well but my mom going downhill makes him feel really bad. They're on the third level, they're all shared rooms but I haven't been able to see the rooms because of the Coronavirus. My dad is in the same part of the facility with her because he wants to be with her in all the meals, if he was in a different area, he won't be able to see her at all. Once something happens to my mom, he will go in assisted-living, probably. They have a courtyard, and they have little putting greens that they can do things on, there's quite a few of those. It looks really nice, I just haven't been there enough because of the Coronavirus. I just go up and my dad just comes up to the front and then I take him to his appointments. Before when I took my mom to her appointments, it had to be their van, because she's on a wheelchair and she didn't have any strength left in her to get in my car so I always had to go by van with her. It was nice but you had to make sure that it was ready because they only have one van. It's kind of tricky getting the appointments set up. Sometimes if you get an appointment and you call there, the van's taken, and then you have to call back to the doctor and it just keeps going back and forth. Most of the staff are pretty well but they are short staffed so sometimes they have to cut my visit short. My dad told me today that they have hired, through an agency, more people because so many of the staff tested positive for Coronavirus. None of the patients have it but the staff. Even when I did visit, because once my mom was on hospice I wanted to make sure that I was able to hug her one last time, they did let me in and I had to go through this spot, it washes your shoes and then you go through the UV light and you turn around and then you don a plastic gown. When you have to go back in your car, you have to go all the way around the building and then you have to go through this other part to get to the third floor. From talking to my parents, they're not that happy but a lot of it probably has to do with the Coronavirus and the shortage of help. They said the food is awful. They're comparing it to another facility. Fairhaven is a nicer place but the food is awful. The structure looks nice, really clean and everything. It's very expensive so I don't know how to compare it to other places but their prescriptions are very expensive. My mom's is at a thousand a month and my dad's a 500 a month. Before we would use our GoodRx card at the pharmacy in town so it was a lot cheaper. Now it's going to be a hundred thousand a year without the prescriptions for each one, plus everything else. It's all a la carte in there so it's quite expensive but I don't know the prices of other places so I can't compare. To me it's very expensive, I would never want to end up there because all of our savings are going to be gone. It's just sad because they worked so hard and I really wish that they didn't go to a nursing home but that was my dad's choice, instead of having personal care and nurses come to their house. That's his choice, he didn't think he could handle being in the house with my mom when she gets UTIs and different things like that.

We have visited Fairhaven many times as we had a close friend there in an apartment that we looked after. We have several other friends who have lived there. They all say how much they enjoy the people, food and staff. When a person moves in, the carpets have been changed or cleaned and the room painted. I have never heard anything negative about it. We have had two people in the health center with Alzheimers, and they seem to be well taken care of and are always kept clean. That's the best place to go if you have the money. But they don't take Medicare.

The room they showed us at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center had shag carpeting that was older in style. They're not keeping the rooms up to what I would expect for the price. They had lots of activities and church services. Everybody was very happy, moving around, and seemed very active. The staff was mostly very good. The dining area was great, extremely clean, and extremely nice, but I wasn't happy with how not up-to-date the rooms seemed to be. I wasn't comfortable that they were going to make an effort to house both of my parents at the same time in the same room because they had their own strict rules. Everything was clean, but shag carpet for a person with a walker to me didn't seem real smart. It didn't sound like they were too interested in changing it.

I visited Fairhaven. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. They had a washer and dryer in each place. Each one had their own home, and you could make your own food. We liked the independence and that they had separate housing.

They were very nice. I love the feeling of the people and the residents in that facility. Everybody was so kind, and there was definitely a Christian feel. They were openhearted, very accepting, and very loving. I love Fairhaven for that reason. I thought my mother would really love it, her being a very strong fundamental Christian woman. However, for her level of care, she is orthopedically a mess, but cognitively OK, and that's very difficult. When you're in a nursing home care, many times there's dementia or Alzheimer's; there's not a lot of cognitive stimulation, and my mom needs that. They can meet her needs physically, but residentially I'm not sure if it's the best fit for my mom. It's a little bit of a larger facility with great people, but she would be in a room in a hospital ward, and she wouldn't like it; she'd be miserable. Also sometimes, it's difficult to have a staff available to take you from the hospital ward to where the cognitively stimulating people are. It's not going to be realistic.

They've got it all on this big campus. They had beautiful condos and duplexes. It was very neat and nice, and it has all the different levels of care. They were very reasonable to buy. Their monthly fee was only $900. Fairhaven was immaculate.

We visited Fairhaven and the office staff was very professional. It's a very Christian organization. The food is very good and the place is very clean and very well kept. Mom in law is very comfortable; she's always dressed nice and neat every time we go there. She's in a supportive care and they're just doing tremendously out there. The staff is very polite and very nice. They know the people they're working with and they learn their ways and habits. We already recommended this place to others.
