"Lincolnwood Place is very attractive. There's a lot of active people engaged in a lot of activities. The food is very good. The people who work there are very pleasant and helpful. The apartments are spacious and modern and there's good visitor parking. I was there to visit a relative. We saw a library, people playing cards, and the gardening room, and they were all being used."

"I am so thankful that we made an appointment to see Bridgeway of Bensenville because it was half the price of everywhere else we went and my aunt-in-law is getting a lot more at Bridgeway than most of those expensive places. The room is gorgeous. She actually has her own apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room, and a dining room. I like their staff the best. They are very polite, very kind, and they watch over her if I have any problems. If I just call them up and ask that they check on her, they will walk down to her room and check on her no matter what time it was. It is a very nice facility. I had no problems with them at all and she is so happy there. "

"Hearthwood Senior Living had a full range of services, from you know, three days a week meals if you wanted them, complete apartments of various sizes, and reasonable monthly rents or fees, and no entrance fee. That was a big deal. As many places do, they had craft rooms, a library, and a swimming pool. The staff was wonderful, and the people were active, very friendly, and welcoming. It's very clean, and they have a new owner, so they're undergoing a remodeling with new carpeting and new woodwork, and so forth. We toured for independent living, but it's a continuous care community, so there is a wing for rehab or for more assisted living if you need it."

"Our visit to Concord Place was great. It is a wonderful facility. It is beautiful. It is like a little island in the middle of an industrial area; however, without a car, you are kind of stranded there. My dad said if it is in a better location, he would have picked that one. Their staff is very nice. I saw their apartments and I think they were probably a little bit bigger than the ones in the other facility we visited. It is a beautiful facility but its location is just inconvenient for us. "

"Founded by holocaust survivors, Selfhelp Home is one of the better-known nonprofit Jewish assisted living/retirement communities in Chicago. The food is kosher, the residents are almost all Jewish and the staff/resident ratios are high. Despite rather high monthly costs, the facilities are not plush: they're clean, functional, safe, and well-maintained but not luxurious. Well-run Medicaid nursing homes look pretty similar. The money goes largely for staff and there are a lot of them: residents can and do get help at any point of the day with just about any task. The home also offers a wide range of activities ranging from book clubs to field trips. Generally, residents seem to like it. "

"Lake Forest had everything that one would possibly need for such a facility. They have four or five variations of services depending on your needs. The staff appeared to be very professional and well groomed. This place is the best of all the places we saw. "

"My wife was at Victory Lakes for her rehab but she passed away last April. The food was fine. The service was excellent. She got to know most of the people there and they took expert care of her. They were very attentive to her to meet her needs. It was just a very pleasant experience. "

"The Garlands of Barrington is very nice, but for my husband and I, the entrance fee is very high. The food is absolutely wonderful. We also saw an apartment that was on the first floor that has a patio. I like this a lot because I'd like to put flowers out there. I really think that The Garlands of Barrington is a Cadillac or Rolls Royce of retirement living. There are plenty of activities. It's really a wonderful place."

"Covenant Living of Northbrook was very nice and we had a very nice tour. We saw the dining area and one of the rooms. They have a community room and they were singing in there. They also have an exercise area/gym where you could do physical therapy. We saw people walking around. The staff was very good and you could tell they took very good care of the people. It was also very clean."

"I visited The Moorings a couple of years ago before COVID hit. I was looking at it for my mother-in-law. I loved the grounds. I loved the fact that you could walk around, that they had gardens that you could work in. It was very open, and the residents just seemed quite comfortable, and that went for independent care and assisted. Mary really went out of her way to help us out, but knew all the residents, and would say hello or say this is a person that might be able to help you with that question, and connecting us to the community. The dining room was very comfortable, casual, but nice, and it looked like assigned seating. But I did not eat there, we just looked at it. It was definitely showing age in a few places, but overall kept very well, and it was clean. They have a bar that you can sit at. Besides meals, they have housekeeping services, and there are three different levels of care in the assisted living."

"We looked at the Presbyterian Homes Westminster Place. There was a hospital on the grounds, which was nice. The staff was very professional. They were very friendly, and they showed us the whole place. They had little cottages. They had a bus that took residents to different places. "

"We have put down our deposit at Mather at downtown Evanston. From here we can either walk to the bank, doctor's office, library, and the grocery store. They have a lot of activities that are basically the same things. They do have something scheduled every day, and many of the things I like to do but not everything. Mather is a continuing care community. After we began to understand what was out there, we decided that we needed a continuing care community. This particular place is very close to where we have been living and close to a lot of public transportation. We have several friends that live at the Mather. We had lunch with a friend there. It was pretty good, and they have a lot of places available. There is food available at every meal but we have options. The rooms seem fairly big and pleasant. "

"After our search for the right nursing home, we moved into Central Baptist Village. She is in Memory Care and I am into Independent living. The care and kindness of the staff, from the top down, have exceeded our expectations. The food is excellent, well presented and served lovingly. The grounds are lovely and peaceful. The entire complex is well cared for. "
