"My husband and I went to look at GreenFields of Geneva. They have everything from independent living to memory care and nursing care. We got an invitation to come and tour the place with other people. It was a group of retired people. It was lovely, the common areas were beautiful and there were lots of activities. We decided that we'd feel claustrophobic going from our house to that apartment, so we've decided that it's not for us. The apartments were very nice, but they were just too small for us. The place was very clean. The person who gave us the tour wasn't from there, she was from another nursing home so we would ask her questions and she couldn't answer them. So we had to find out from somebody else, but everybody was very accommodating. It's a beautiful facility with nice furniture, lots of activities, the dining spaces are nice and the outside spaces are nice. "

"Founded by holocaust survivors, Selfhelp Home is one of the better-known nonprofit Jewish assisted living/retirement communities in Chicago. The food is kosher, the residents are almost all Jewish and the staff/resident ratios are high. Despite rather high monthly costs, the facilities are not plush: they're clean, functional, safe, and well-maintained but not luxurious. Well-run Medicaid nursing homes look pretty similar. The money goes largely for staff and there are a lot of them: residents can and do get help at any point of the day with just about any task. The home also offers a wide range of activities ranging from book clubs to field trips. Generally, residents seem to like it. "

"My mother is already at Addolorata Villa, and the facility is wonderful. The memory lane is only 10 years old, and there are only 32 patients in the memory lane. Overall, the place is beautiful. They have dining room and a garden room where they can go and sit. They also have a living room with a fireplace in it. They also have an activity room and a little tiny room that is like a library. They do have different activities, like, they have exercises, and they do craft things. They take them out every Tuesday and Thursday. There's always something to do. It took a while for her to adjust, but she is adjusting. Her room is very spacious. She can put a queen-size bed. She has her own bathroom, and it is quite nice. "

"Choosing a rehab facility is difficult and frankly none of them will probably meet all of your expectations. My family is very much involved and hands on, and visit our loved one every day for an extended length of time. Having been involved with several Rehab centers, I would say this has been the best so far. The staff is very gentle and caring and do most services on routine and without prompting. They are very busy, so we have to ask for assistance (like bathroom trips, etc) because the staff may not check as often as needed. when we do ask for help, it is fairly prompt and always very kind. If we were not there to advocate for our loved one, it may be less satisfactory, but I would highly recommend this facility. The therapists from Marion Joy are great and the facility is clean, with mostly single rooms but shared (between 2) bathrooms. "

"They are great at making sure residents have enough sleep, and have good hygiene. On the nights she gets a shower, she is done by 6:30 pm. so she can go to bed. Sometime's they let her sleep in till 9:00 am. They were so thoughtful, when they lost her hearing aids, the second time. She still had a set, no one would notice, they didn't match. And they are so respectful of pride of ownership. They let mom pay for the replacements. Most of the time, when I come to visit, they promptly answer her request call with in 15 to 20 minutes."

"My dad is currently in the skilled nursing building of Lexington Health Care Center of Lombard. It's across the parking lot of the independent and assisted living community. He's been there a while, and he has received very good care. I think they're nice people though I think my dad's kind of a pain to deal with. They've done a good job. He started out there in nursing rehab and technically he's still there. With insurance, they wanna kick you out after a certain number of days, but he's now accepted on Medicaid. He was being provided physical therapy to help him recover after a septic infection that diminished his ability to walk. He's kinda getting help with daily living aspects. I think he's generally pretty happy there. From what I've seen, it's clean and organized, and they have a little reception room near the front door where you can have window visits on a pre-scheduled basis. My dad does not like the food there; it's pretty much all the same with other places."

"i was looking for a place for my dad to come because he needed a locations for occupational therapy. My dad was having issues with his legs so he needed to find a location that would be able to help him and get to the point where he could get his strength back so he could walk unassisted. They were really helpful and nice when we came in. They gave us a tour of the place and we were really impressed! "

"In general, Manorcare of Westmont was good but I had some serious concerns about their level of skill with catheters. I learned a lot just going around the internet and asking around about the proper catheter care, cleanliness, and best practices, and they did not follow them and complicated things. I thought their physical therapy was great. My father had been there three separate times and did so well with the physical therapy. My mother was there for a short time, too, but we transferred her out of there quickly. While she was there, she caught C. diff. She was just at a very low point there, but we thought there should have been extra care given to her situation. As far as transferring from one patient to another, I didn’t see much care. When we went in there, we had to wear gloves and gowns, but then the physician’s assistant would come in, and she’d be touching the bedding and she’d say she was a professional. I have since found out about C. diff being rampant over there, and if had we had any idea about that, I don’t know that we would have brought her there. They did not test her for a UTI, and we told them there was a good chance that she was still having a UTI. She nearly died because she had C. diff and a UTI at the same time. It felt like had I not raised the red flag, I don’t know if they would have sent her to the ER. I was stunned by their laid-back attitude. The food looked more colorful but I thought it was incredibly not nutritional. There wasn’t a fresh vegetable or fruit in sight. Everything had gravy on it. "

"Brookdale Lisle looks almost like a country club. They have people that specialize in memory care because my dad has onset dementia. The staff is all pleasant and nice. The apartments are clean and spacious. We ate a few times at the cafeteria, and the food was OK, although kind of bland, but it is expected to be that way in a place like that. "

"A year and a half ago, my dear cousin passed away from her battle with pancreatic cancer. Prior to her passing away peacefully at home under hospice, she spent rehab time at Burgess Square. Her experience there was wonderful. The staff truly took care of her in a very professional, kind and caring manner....... So thank you Burgess Square management and staff for your caring and quality care. Currently, my cousin's husband who is now 90 and very dear to me, is at Burgess Square for rehab, and the staff is treating him with the best of kindness and care. Burgess Square management and staff, again I thank you greatly for your great healthcare and for your kindness and compassion. Many, many thanks to all of you. It is so often that we hear of terrible nursing care home stories. If at any time I would need such care, Burgess Square is the only facility I would hope to go to."

"My mother is in Bella Terra Elmhurst for rehabilitation. I feel that the physical therapy department is very good. However, the nursing staff has not been a good experience and they are short on nursing staff all the time. She's in a very nice room and it's a very clean facility. She hasn't had any complaints about the food. Overall, it's a good rehab facility, they just need to ensure the nursing staff for the number of patients that they have."

"I love living at Oak Trace! Being a new resident, the staff members & residents have made my moving transition so smooth & easy. With Coronavirus going on, the team members have gone above & beyond their duties to make sure I am cared for and still engaged in programming. There are wonderful physical activities to do through the Oak Trace cable channels to participate in (especially since the fitness room is closed due to the virus precautions). Having all the walking paths is a big plus to both my physical/emotional needs. Because the residents are so friendly and outgoing, it has helped a new resident like me to emotionally adapt to the new environment. Five star ratings for every department."

"My mother was a patient at manorcare. She was going to have 2 weeks of physical therapy and then home.,but her dementia got worse and we knew that was not going work. She received excellent care, thanks to the staff who were always respectful, and the manager Victoria She is so caring about not only one person but all the patients. She really put my mom at ease when she left. I also wanted to say that Steve is the best representative of your business. The first thing you see is his smiling face, he is also very nice about answering your questions. I have come to realize that when you see happy, efficient employees, they have a good hands on manager like Victoria! "

"My mother is currently living in Westmont Nursing and Rehab and I have had an extremely positive experience. My mother is very happy and gets great care. The nurses are very attentive and always inform me whenever there are any changes with my mother. She has been living there a little over a year. when she first arrived she received physical therapy and occupational therapy. she progressed to the point where she is now toileting herself and walking with a walker. I can not explain how happy and comfortable I am that my mom is living in a healthy, safe environment! "
