"I had an in-person tour of The Sheridan at River Forest. They took me around the whole building. The tour experience was very delightful. I want to move there myself. They have a chef on staff. The place was very elegant, upscale, and beautiful. They have a spa, a workout room, and a sun terrace. The dining room was beautiful with white cloth tables. The rooms were very nice, larger than I thought, beautiful, with nice lighting and windows."

"Sunrise of Fountain Square was lovely. The girl that took me on the tour was very knowledgeable about the organization and about the facility. She took me to see practically everything. She was warm and friendly. I liked the facility. It was just a little more expensive than the other one I visited. The place was clean. The residents that I saw that were out and about seemed like they enjoyed being there. They served three meals a day. They had transportation to doctor's appointments. They had the opportunity to engage in some social activities. "

"My brother is at the Victory Centre of Galewood. It is geared more to people that can take care of themselves. I found the staff, the CNAs, and everyone to be very conscientious and nice. Occasionally, I am disappointed though because some of the staff in the wellness department call even if they know that I work during the day. So, I'll call them back immediately, but that individual was not available anymore and you don't get a callback. You have to continue to call them or to go over their head, but that's only to some of the representatives in the wellness department, not all of them. They care about their residents and my brother. His health has deteriorated somewhat and they made an exception and got him into rehab. He's had several falls, but they didn't immediately say, "One more fall and you're out." So, they do try to work with him first. Some of them are exceptional and he seems to like the food too. With COVID, I think a lot of stuff has been cut down. They have movies, a gym, and a lot more. They don't have a good parking facility for family members. It's very difficult to park in that area and I believe the garage that they have is meant for some of the residents. The rooms are large enough. There is a small kitchenette, a microwave, and a normal size fridge. The bathroom is extremely wide. It's flexible for a person with a disability, a wheelchair, or walker. They're pretty good. However, I think it's a good neighborhood. The majority of it is residential. There are parks nearby and a community center. Then on the other side, it's more business-like, there are restaurants and the like, so the residents that are more mobile can go out and get food. There is a barbershop around the corner as well. It's a pretty good community. I feel that my brother's safe."

"My brother moved in. Their community is great. Everyone is friendly, from the staff to the residents. The nurses, CNAs, and everyone are just fantastic. He's got a nice room. It's a nice size for him, but I wish it were a little bit bigger (I guess that's just me). I would prefer that it were a little bit bigger and that it had more of a kitchen-type layout. It has a cabinet area and a countertop, and he can put his microwave there, but I wish there was a sink where he can wash some little dishes if he has some. Overall, it's still a nice room. He has been participating in some of their activities. I know he plays bingo, and then they've had movie nights (he goes to that). They have little events sometimes, and they have one coming up soon at the end of this month on the 26th. They are going to have an event where families can come and stuff like that, which is good. I don't think he likes the food. He's picky. He wants to eat what he wants to eat. He is diabetic too, so he doesn't care for the food. He has no choice, though, but I think it's delicious. Not that I've eaten any, but I can tell when the cook/the chef puts it out, it looks good and smells good to me. I know that there are other elderly people there who have to be cared for and can't control themselves. They have to go to the bathroom and stuff like that, and so it feels like every time I'm walking to go down to my brother's hall to go to his room, it reeks of urine. You can just smell it, and I don't know if that's because they haven't cleaned, or maybe when I come, there's nobody there to clean it. During the week, I couldn't smell it, but definitely when I go on Saturday mornings or Sunday, I can smell it as soon as I come in the door."

"I have observed both the rehabilitative services and long-term assisted living and hospice services at Lexington. Rehabilitative Services: My grandmother spent two weeks at this facility recovering from a broken hip. She was assigned to a double-occupancy room and had a roommate for about 2/3 of her stay. She felt the physical therapy sessions were difficult but productive and enabled her to work towards a quicker-than-anticipated recovery. Her sole complaint was the lack of fresh fruit in the meal service. Long-term/hospice care: My (other) grandmother spent the last year of her life at Lexington in the long-term care. I visited for approximately one hour, once a week, which enabled me to get to know the staff and experience many mealtimes. Residents are typically given a choice of a salad with the option of soup, along with main entrees like salisbury steak, grilled cheese, and breaded chicken. Side dishes include veggies like green beans, macaroni and cheese, or mashed potatoes. The desserts range from brownies to jello with fruit inside, often accompanied by a dixie cup of chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Based on the smell and appearance, this food seems above average for a cafeteria-type dining environment. The staff are friendly and while they don't jump at every yell or ring of a page, they respond to requests and emergencies at an adequate speed. The facility is clean, including common areas. The grounds are nicely landscaped and provide many benches to relax outdoors with residents. Lexington's activities director arranges daily activities such as bingo or sing-alongs, as well as seasonal parties for holidays. The summer celebration includes a moon bounce for guests and hot dogs, among other treats. You can tell they're trying to engage residents and their loved ones based on the variety of activities.Overall, this is not a "luxury" facility but it is a considerable leap above state-run long term care facilities. The residents are treated pleasantly and it is apparent that the staff is doing the best with what they've got. I would not hesitate to live or arrange for a loved one to live at this facility. "

"We were checking out assisted living facilities in the Chicago area and decided to go and see Sunrise of Willowbrook, since it was recommended by a friend in the region as an option for our aunt. The outside area resembled that of a well maintained smaller hotel. Outside greens were nicely landscaped and well-tended with plenty of great seating areas. The interior design featured nice colors, comfortable furniture, bright light and fresh air, which added to the cheery ambiance. From sight seeing to nature walks and cultural events, the Chicago region has it all. The staff appeared to accommodate all levels of ambulation. The seniors are taken on many outings into the area's vibrant community to enjoy all that it has to offer. The dining areas included really well prepared and healthy food with many choices. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. The menus included food options for all kinds of diets. The residents enjoy yoga and aerobics classes, sometimes held outdoors. Seniors are encouraged to enjoy physical activity as much as possible. There are also specially designed educational and social programs for residents and their families. Private units featured beautiful decorations, many with great views of the surrounding areas. The spaces were all designed with safety rails and features. The Willowbrook community is a safe and pleasant place for anyone to live. The seniors appeared very content here, with just the amount of care and attention they require. "

"A wonderful concept of providing care. Instead of being an institutional environment, it is a comfortable single-family home that has been designed for this purpose. My grandmother loved the fact that she lived in a single family home, with three other residents, while getting all the help that she needed. I would recommend Golden Age to anyone who is looking for a place that offers assisted living. Like they claim...at Golden Age you don't live in a home, you live at home."

"Autumn Green at Wright Campus was very nice and very modern. I was very comfortable there. The woman who gave me the tour was pleasant and well informed. The food was good. I had a free lunch there and the dining area was very pleasant. They had an area for playing cards. They had outside parking available which was very nice and that was a plus."

"We like it. The place was new, nice, and clean. They offered lots of things. It's out on a major street, but that's OK. They don't have much grounds though. The rooms were nice."

"The pandemic has been hard on everyone, but none more so than our elderly population. That being said, I have nothing but praise for Brookdale Glen Ellyn and the staff. My parents are both over 90 and have moved to an apt. in Assisted Living after having lived 5+ years here in Independent Living. The staff on the AL floor feel more like family at this point, and their consistent care and warmth toward my parents gives us great comfort. ALL of the nurses on the AL floor are outstanding, the CNAs hardworking and caring, and the housekeeping staff kind, efficient and friendly to the residents. Over the years we have had many extended family dinners hosted here which were wonderful, and dining services has stepped up and taken on a tough job during the COVID pandemic, delivering meals to all of the residents in their apartments. I understand that the options and quality have not suffered at all! With regard to the management team, and especially their handling of the COVID pandemic and what that means for seniors housed together, I give nothing but the highest marks. Excellent communication, thoughtful execution of difficult measures, and special care for the residents. My sisters and I feel so lucky that my parents , if they can't be with us, are at this place at this time with these people."

"Clarendale of Addison was very nice. I really liked the room the staff showed me. I liked the idea about their meal plan that if you don't eat a meal, you're not charged for it. It was just a little bit too far from where most of my activities take place, but I really like the Clarendale of Addison. I have friends who live in there and it would be nice if we were there together. The staff was very nice and they called me a couple of times afterwards. It was a very nice experience. The staff showed me a snack shop and that's where he explained how the meal plan went. It was very lovely."

"The Amazing Grace Senior Living seemed like a nice place to take care of the medical needs that my mother-in-law would need. It's assisted living and there are nurses there 24/7. It's close to home and it's religious. So we could go see her and it will make it convenient for us. It's a little homey and it looks clean. We had pizza, salad, and a fruit cocktail during our tour, and it was all good."
