Nursing Home Communities in Hillside, IL

"In general, I think that this is a beautiful facility, obviously upscale, but in extremely good taste. There is a library and a little shopping area with candy and jewelry. There is a very nice dining area. The lobby is spacious and comfortable. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The one draw back is the parking in the back of the building, which is often full and it is hard to find parking on the street. This is definately an urban setting. Many of the patients are Holocaust survivors. The staff are very helpful and will work with the patient and the family if there are financial or other problems. The facility offers an array of activities -- opera programs, ice cream socials, current events, etc. The facility also provides religious programming and services for the mainly Jewish population. There are individual apartments where residents can live in an independent living situation. There is also continued care and nursing home facility on other floors. On the top floor is a lovely activity room with glass windows. Sometimes there is a pianist who plays music. Patients can go up and get an icecream cone or can go out on the roof patio when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend this facility. The patients that I talked to seemed happy because there are many activities that are offered. "

"Marian Village was expensive, but the whole atmosphere, the staff, the graciousness, and the beauty was what I like the most about the whole environment. They have lots of activities, the food is delicious; they serve one meal a day. I would recommend them although it’s a buy-in facility. "

"My mother passed away 3 years ago just a month shy of 104. I acknowledged the wonderful care my mother received during her time in Assisted Living and the Nursing home. Addolorata Villa provided excellent care, kept residents in all areas engaged. The level of care in all sections was consistent and of high quality. Some of my best memories come from special events such as the celebration of those 100 years old and over. From the quality of the food, cleanliness of rooms, the comfort level and furnishing throughout the Villa demonstrated top quality. Most important is the staff. Not only did they provide support to my mother, but to me as well. They also did not forget about my mother after she passed away. I cannot adequately describe my feelings from the card and note and remembrance in a Mass over the past few years. Thank you Leo Burns"

"Jennings Terrace was more like a nursing facility. The apartments were two rooms, a bedroom, and a small living room. There's a community shower, and that was unacceptable. The facility was nice. They provide three meals a day because these guys need assistance. I don't need the assisted living aspect of the apartment I'm looking for. The community shower is a turnoff to me. They were having lunch when I got there and everybody seemed very cordial, enjoying themselves. The problem is it's way too small. We couldn't even get one-tenth of our furniture in the place. If a person needed assisted living, I would recommend a place such as this. Everything was up to par as far as cleanliness and cordialness. It was just the size of the apartment and the apartment arrangement, too small a bedroom and living area. They have a medical facility attached to the place. They have common areas, and they're very clean and cordial. If I was by myself needing medical attention and needed assistance, I probably would have no problem living there. They've got a nondenominational religious chapel. They had room to play cards, just to socialize. They had a main dining room. Everybody seemed comfortable and I don't think there's any problem with the facility except it's not what I'm looking for."

"I toured GreenFields Geneva. I very much like the atmosphere there. It's very home-like and very well-kept. The residents that I encountered were all so pleased to be there. They felt that things were handled very well during the pandemic. The ones that I talked to didn't feel that they had been closed off from others, and yet they were protected. They provided them with food and took them to their apartments. Even though they were in their apartments and not going out and mixing, they had some musical groups that came. They also played outside in different areas of the buildings. They just kept people involved in things. I talked to quite a few residents (because I was there a few different days) and I got good feedback from them about the place. The residents told me that they thought that the food was pretty good. I saw their two-bedroom apartments. They had them laid out with the two bedrooms on either side of the apartment with the living room in the middle. All the amenities for the kitchen were in there. I was told when you move in that they're in the process of replacing all of the appliances. They are doing all that they can to allow you the opportunity to move into a well-maintained apartment. From my perspective, I like having that kind of a smaller living place that's not quite so institutional feeling. The food was excellent, too. "

"My mom is in the memory care of The Pearl of Hillside. The staff takes care of her very well. They clean her room, check everything, and make sure she is fed three times a day. She eats all of her food too. What I like the most is that it's a very secure zone. She likes to wander around, but she can't do it there, because they have a device on her ankles that she wears that sets off an alarm if she goes out. So, the security is very good for me. They have church services, all the nurses interact with the residents, they play music for them, and watch TV. They have a patio that's not very clean though. There were spiderwebs all over it and the tables were not up to par, but other than that, the security and everything is good."

"We have been to Oakridge Nursing & Rehab Center. It was very dark. It seemed a very dismal place. There were four people in a room, which I thought was a bit much. They were noticeably understaffed, so it wouldn't be a place that I would recommend. There were four in a room, and they were divided by shower curtains. They were average-sized rooms. The staff was honest. They provided an honest assessment for me. I think they were helpful. It was a small facility. I saw the dining area, and that was kind of it. They didn't offer a lot of amenities. There was no exercise room, and there was no activity center. I met with the tour person who sometimes doubles as the cook and sometimes gives people showers. I just think they need to brighten up the place. They probably need to have a few more offerings in terms of activities and things for their residents. I was greeted with kind of an odor, so they need to work on some sanitizing, too."

"First time every placing a love one in a nusing home. This one place really put you in a home away from home setting. It's clean, and will secure inside for it patients and staff. The areas outside peaceful even doe the subrounding are a little busy. The staff very helpful and pleasent. And the meals look just enjoyable. "

"In her 4 years as an Assisted Living resident my sister has come to call Park Place of Elmhurst Health & Wellness Center her home. As a frequent visitor I have enjoyed seeing her participate in activities and have observed her positive interaction with caregivers and staff and recognize how much those relationships mean to her personally. The dedication and professionalism of this community has certainly become apparent and is so relevant during this time of Covid and I have been reassured and am grateful for the communication that has been provided literally on a daily basis. As my sister now transitions into Memory Care, I am confident that the quality of care and her experiences will continue to be positive."

"I have been in rehab at Bella Terra Elmhurst for three weeks now. The facility is okay. It's rehabilitation, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. They have activities for the residents. I think they played bingo. And they have other little activities that they do. I have yet to participate in them. The room is a shared one, but I'm here by myself. The interaction with the staff was okay. And the building is in good shape."

"I moved into Presence Casa San Carlo Retirement. I'm in independent living with some support. The food is excellent, and the area is very nice. They have activities, but they are limited right now because of COVID. They have transportation to take you to the grocery store, to the malls and to whatever trips they have. I love the activities and the exercise room when it's open. It's limited, but they have it every day. They will call us, and everybody has to do the exercise. It's affordable. I was in another place where I pay more and they had the worst services in the world. Here, I pay less, and I have the best especially the food. It's excellent."

"My mother in-law is in this home with Alzheimer's. They take very good care of her at this location. She is in the final stages of this aweful disease and she is very comfortable here. "

"The facility is nicely kept and is very inviting on the outside. The grounds and landscape are really nice and make you want to go inside. The lobby and the people that work at the front are very nice and always greet you at the door. The medical staff is knowledge and compassionate. All the rooms for the residents are very nicely kept. I was very impressed with the amenities for the residents. They have a movie theater, a salon for men and women, and a large and beautiful dining room. "

"Elmhurst Extended Care Center was excellent. I was there for rehab and the people were very friendly and they got great food. It's a small place and I think that's why it's so very good and very personable. They remember you and they remember your name. The owner comes and does it himself with you. They had activities every day, several times a day and they were very involved with all of the residents. There were two or three activity people and they played games and did physical/fitness exercises. Then of course we had individual therapy, too, based on our individual needs. The rehab was just excellent. The facility was very homey. I've been in other places that were a lot more modern and a lot fancier, but the warmth, the compassion, and the friendliness were sometimes lacking in the more modern, up-to-date, current facilities. This facility has been around for a while. My husband was there several times and I've been also there twice for different rehabs. It's good."
