Nursing Home Communities in Elmhurst, IL

"I have briefly visited other nursing homes and assisted living facilities and I think this is one of the best. My mother visits almost every day, though, and I know that's one way to make sure that your relatives are well taken care of...The staff is always friendly and willing to make accommodations in the residents' schedules for visitors. For all residents, both those on the 8th floor (mainly dementia patients, some rehab) and on the lower floors (mainly in their own apartments with mini-kitchens), there are daily activities. For those who are mobile, there are frequent outings. Book club, story groups, bingo, exercise, ice cream socials...there's also a beautiful roof deck and indoor sitting area on the top floor with many couches and large windows overlooking Lake Michigan. Most residents dine together and food seems decent downstairs from what I've seen. The food on the 8th floor is pretty basic cafeteria style food, not so good. "

"I like that Addolorata Villa feels like a family community. I like that the residents were out setting up some of the Christmas decorations and the chef stopped to talk to us and there was a guy who mans the gym area like he's there all day. It's just a nice feature. The staff was very friendly. It was clean. One of the drawbacks is that it's kind of spread out. The atmosphere was very pleasant. I only saw two-bedroom rooms and they looked comfortable."

"Marian Village was expensive, but the whole atmosphere, the staff, the graciousness, and the beauty was what I like the most about the whole environment. They have lots of activities, the food is delicious; they serve one meal a day. I would recommend them although it’s a buy-in facility. "

"Jennings Terrace had all stages of living, independent and assisted, and memory care as well. It was a nice place. The rooms were smaller, but you could get two rooms together. One of the things that would turn our mother off in just this particular case is the shared bathroom. The staff member did a great job and showed us the different areas. The dining area was nice and everyone raved about the food there. We tried the mac n' cheese and something else and it was good. I enjoyed it. We went there on a weekend when they usually have less activities, mostly because they have a large population of people whose loved ones come and get them on the weekends. They had a list of activities during the week though."

"My mother will be moving into GreenFields of Geneva. We chose it mostly because of the location. It's very close to one of my other siblings. She'll be going to memory care. I like that there was a separate dining area like each area was separate. It looked like a smaller dining space for memory care and the unit itself was in a U-shape. They have nursing staff available 24 hours a day. The staff during the tour was great. She gave us a lot of information, was upfront, and has helped us through this process as we are starting the move. What they had to offer in terms of activities and the availability of physical therapy and speech therapy is five stars. We have to have a doctor prescribe that, but it's nice that it could be onsite."

"From Love (the head administrator) to the staff of nurses/aides (Katie, especially) to Dipti(Accounting/Finance/Everything!) - you will not find a better team to support your loved one, like they did. My Aunt was not an easy patient but before she even got there, Love stepped up and helped us transition her. Then Dipti guided me thru the endless medicare mess not just what the facility needed but my Aunt's insurance for the facility/care/prescriptions - everything! And of course, the daily care, feeding, dressing, bathing and transporting was handled in the best manner by the nurses and aides. We had care meetings and were prepared for hospice and my Aunt's passing all with the utmost empathy and professionalism. They all feel like family and took care of EVERYTHING and let us grieve while my Aunt declined - their attention to detail only increased as time went on. Elmhurst Extended Care should be training the other facilities out there because these other options are not even close in the services that Elmhurst provides. "My Mother was in this facility. I though they did a god job in taking care of her needs. She was very sick and they found a way to help her life improve. It is a small facility and I liked the attention my Mother received. I would recommend this facility. The rooms were nice and well maintained. The staff helped her rehab and personal needs. The facility met with me and reviewed my options as her Medicare was approaching 90 days. "

"Bella Terra Elmhurst has been a wonderful place for my mother. Her room was always very clean and well-maintained, which gave us great peace of mind. The staff is incredibly friendly and took such good care of her, treating her with kindness and respect. It truly feels like they care about each resident, and that made a big difference for our family. Highly recommend!"

"Casa San Carlos was nice. They had a big whirlpool that Mom could use because she really likes swimming. They have a low vision library, or big print library. They had decent-sized rooms with a kitchenette and a nice balcony. They had two chapels and a church in the campus; Mom's very religious. They served two meals a day, and residents take care of the third meal. My mom still cooks for herself, so it was exactly what we needed. It's an older place, but they redo the apartment when you move in."

"So when I first arrived with my Mom for rehab, I was so depressed, the color-scheme on the rehab floor is not "cheery" so I was sad, disappointed and depressed. Since she has been in Unit A for 3 weeks now, I have come to see that she is receiving wonderful care, they put up with her obstinance which has subsided and now find Mom to be funny. Victoria, Eva and the gang are delightful, helpful, attentive and run a tight ship. The food SUCKS, being Italian, I am personally insulted by the grub therefore we bring food into Mom often but c'mon, get a clue Scalabrini should offer stellar eats!!!! Overall, we are all comfortable and happy with Moms' care. "

"This place is it like a nursing home or like an old folks home and it's not like a hospital it's a mixture of the two but the staff is so friendly and engaging they always have activities for everybody to do like movie nights and bingo they bring in entertainment I have my dad there and he's 60 and every time I come home the nurses are exceptionally caring and I know my dad can be a handful at times one of the nurses especially Jamie she is such a sweetheart I was trying to take a picture with my dad they had a little background set up with a selfie and she took the picture for me and she said she would print it and hang it in my dad's room for me so they definitely go above and beyond and they treat your family like their family. Even the other patients there my dad's always walking around making new friends talking all the nurses they always do the most to make sure that everybody is happy and comfortable so if you're looking for somewhere to put a family member who needs assistance my dad's been there for about 5 years I think now and he loves it we're allowed to take him out on the weekends and sign them out not for the whole day but we're allowed to take him out so he can still enjoy family functions with us"

"i was looking for a place for my dad to come because he needed a locations for occupational therapy. My dad was having issues with his legs so he needed to find a location that would be able to help him and get to the point where he could get his strength back so he could walk unassisted. They were really helpful and nice when we came in. They gave us a tour of the place and we were really impressed! "

"We have been to Oakridge Nursing & Rehab Center. It was very dark. It seemed a very dismal place. There were four people in a room, which I thought was a bit much. They were noticeably understaffed, so it wouldn't be a place that I would recommend. There were four in a room, and they were divided by shower curtains. They were average-sized rooms. The staff was honest. They provided an honest assessment for me. I think they were helpful. It was a small facility. I saw the dining area, and that was kind of it. They didn't offer a lot of amenities. There was no exercise room, and there was no activity center. I met with the tour person who sometimes doubles as the cook and sometimes gives people showers. I just think they need to brighten up the place. They probably need to have a few more offerings in terms of activities and things for their residents. I was greeted with kind of an odor, so they need to work on some sanitizing, too."
