"My brother moved in. Their community is great. Everyone is friendly, from the staff to the residents. The nurses, CNAs, and everyone are just fantastic. He's got a nice room. It's a nice size for him, but I wish it were a little bit bigger (I guess that's just me). I would prefer that it were a little bit bigger and that it had more of a kitchen-type layout. It has a cabinet area and a countertop, and he can put his microwave there, but I wish there was a sink where he can wash some little dishes if he has some. Overall, it's still a nice room. He has been participating in some of their activities. I know he plays bingo, and then they've had movie nights (he goes to that). They have little events sometimes, and they have one coming up soon at the end of this month on the 26th. They are going to have an event where families can come and stuff like that, which is good. I don't think he likes the food. He's picky. He wants to eat what he wants to eat. He is diabetic too, so he doesn't care for the food. He has no choice, though, but I think it's delicious. Not that I've eaten any, but I can tell when the cook/the chef puts it out, it looks good and smells good to me. I know that there are other elderly people there who have to be cared for and can't control themselves. They have to go to the bathroom and stuff like that, and so it feels like every time I'm walking to go down to my brother's hall to go to his room, it reeks of urine. You can just smell it, and I don't know if that's because they haven't cleaned, or maybe when I come, there's nobody there to clean it. During the week, I couldn't smell it, but definitely when I go on Saturday mornings or Sunday, I can smell it as soon as I come in the door."

"Arden Courts of Glen Ellyn was more of a subdued place -- a quiet, restrictive place. But the level of care was excellent. It was just all lower key, less activity, and more quiet. If a person wanted to have a more sedate setting, it would have been OK. The service and the staff were perfect. It was just kind of a different atmosphere, but still very nice. It was a lot smaller and quieter. The people who were there were very accommodating, very nice, very professional, and I could tell they were doing all they could do for the residents, so I thought this would be a good place for my mother too. "

"My mom was happy with the lady from Cantata Adult Life Services. She was just fantastic, wonderful person. But her hours didn't meet with what we needed her for. They required more hours per day for someone to come out. We just couldn't do that because it depends on what my mom needs. Sometimes my mom needed her more, sometimes less. So we went with a private individual because her hours are better suited to our needs. My aunt was also a resident there for about four years before she passed. We couldn't be more satisfied with them. The grounds are gorgeous, the nursing home itself is spotless, very clean, and no smell. The staff is so helpful. "

"My father has only been here for a few weeks now. It's beautiful, and it's practically new. Everything is clean and fresh. The staff is very helpful and very knowledgeable about dementia. The room is very spacious, and it's got a separate bathroom with shower, a nice huge window to look outside, and plenty of closet space. They have pet therapy come in. I was impressed at how clean it was, how spacious it was, and how much they knew about dementia. "

"My mom has been at Belmont Village for 5years. They've been wonderful years for her & for me. Not only is Belmont a great facility, it has done the most important thing of all - taken the stress of worrying about my dear, sweet Mom off my mind & heart. My mother has Alzheimers. She is in an advanced state but in good health & spirit. I live in another state so I am not able to see her as much as I would like to. The staff at Belmont keeps me abreast of her life there, good & bad. It's like having a professional family working w/you to cover all the needs of your loved one. I'm notified of Moms appts., physical therapy, personal needs & even her moods. The staff keeps a close eye out for anything "different" that may need the assistance of a nurse or a doctor. Any doctor appts., a PAL (staff member) goes w/Mom to make sure she's safe & also to keep her company. The relationship between Mom & the PALS is of utmost importance. Mama is accustomed to their faces & kindness. She trusts & enjoys them even tho she may not always "mind" them. The residents are not forced to do anything, just gently guided w/patience next to Godliness. Speaking of guidance, there is so much activity going on at Belmont, believe your loved one will be kept alert & on their toes. They hear the news, (via the PALS), the date, see movies, exercise & are constantly having celebrations from birthdays to holidays. The nurse administers meds on a schedule as dictated by your doctor. And any changes or questionable physical conditions will be reported to you by the Belmont Village nurse. They keep a sharp eye out on my mom as she can't communicate aches, pains, etc. because of her Alzheimers. I've grown to appreciate them more than I could ever convey. The residence itself is beautiful. I'm happy to know my mom is walking around surrounded by windows, plants, pictures, comfy chairs & couches with music playing. By the way, the residences are always welcomed to sing along & they sure do. When I'm in for a visit, I attend the parties & sing along too! It's fun & easy to see the residents are enjoying themselves. My mom is always well groomed & she gets mani/pedis at the beauty salon right on the premises. I speak to her often as there is a phone on her floor that I can call anytime of the day or night. Hearing Moms voice & her hearing mine as often as I want is a blessing. Every once in a while, she'll ask me to call back later as she's having so much fun involved in some activity or other she "can't talk". Yes, I did say she is in an advanced state of Alzheimers. The staff at Belmont have provided her such excellent care, she does quite a few things that are pleasantly surprising. I can honestly say she is thriving! I can't leave out a little something that EVERYBODY comments on & likes - the food!! The food!! The food!! Any special diet requirements are strictly monitored but never the less the food manages to stay yummy. I don't know how Belmont does it but my Mom, who LOVES the food, is still in good shape! I'd be bigger than a snow person if it was me but that's also a testament to the professionals in the kitchen. The cooking & menus are balanced & healthy! Lots of smiling tummies at meal time. Sounds like a little piece of heaven on earth, right? Well, it is. Watching our loved ones age is a tough reality. Do yourself a favor & house them somewhere they'll be happy, carefully monitored, well feed, kept busy having fun & loved. Yes, I said loved! The peace of mind you receive will be priceless. I am lucky to have found Belmont Village and I am grateful to have my Mommie reside there. "

"My dad has been in Lakeview Memory Care. We spoke to 14 different places in a two-day period and this community was who we judged everybody against. When we want to come we need to make an appointment to make sure we can social distance and that there will be plenty of space. When we go visit we check-in and we have to wear masks. They let us in through the back gate and escorts us to where my dad is at, then we sit down and visit however long we want to. Then we call the front gate, they take my dad inside, and escort us back out. They are not allowing people to go out of the facility and they've been COVID-free for quite a long time; they very much want to keep it that way. At first, he wasn't getting the type of breakfast that he likes so he went and talked to them. Now he is getting the kind of food in the morning that he likes and he doesn't really complain about the food. It is a single-story facility and I don't have to worry about my dad getting in the elevator and going up and down."

"My mother has been living in Sunrise of Bloomingdale for two weeks. The experience has been going very well. She is in a clean, one-bedroom apartment. It is not as big as where she was before, but it is fine. The staff is very caring. "

"My family has begun to look for assisted living for my ailing mother. This was one of the closest facilities that I could find. I really enjoyed the surroundings and the feel of the place. It provided a great sense of independence that I think is quite important to what my mom would really like. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable for the most part, and definitely people that I would feel comfortable with leaving my mother with. The facilities have a very modern feel to them. They told me that it was important to them to keep everything modern feeling and up to date. That was really important to me; I needed to make sure that this place was going to continue to get better. The one thing that I really didn't care for was there food. Mom is very picky when it comes to food. She has developed a keen taste for more upscale food, and I'm pretty sure that McDonald's would be a gourmet meal after eating in this place. It's my only complaint with the place, but it may just be a deal breaker. "

"We were checking out assisted living facilities in the Chicago area and decided to go and see Sunrise of Willowbrook, since it was recommended by a friend in the region as an option for our aunt. The outside area resembled that of a well maintained smaller hotel. Outside greens were nicely landscaped and well-tended with plenty of great seating areas. The interior design featured nice colors, comfortable furniture, bright light and fresh air, which added to the cheery ambiance. From sight seeing to nature walks and cultural events, the Chicago region has it all. The staff appeared to accommodate all levels of ambulation. The seniors are taken on many outings into the area's vibrant community to enjoy all that it has to offer. The dining areas included really well prepared and healthy food with many choices. The food we saw looked and smelled delicious. The menus included food options for all kinds of diets. The residents enjoy yoga and aerobics classes, sometimes held outdoors. Seniors are encouraged to enjoy physical activity as much as possible. There are also specially designed educational and social programs for residents and their families. Private units featured beautiful decorations, many with great views of the surrounding areas. The spaces were all designed with safety rails and features. The Willowbrook community is a safe and pleasant place for anyone to live. The seniors appeared very content here, with just the amount of care and attention they require. "

"We like it. The place was new, nice, and clean. They offered lots of things. It's out on a major street, but that's OK. They don't have much grounds though. The rooms were nice."

"The people in Brighton Gardens of Wheaton are wonderful, including the nurses and aides. Even if you have trouble with someone, they'd take care of it instantly. The therapist is the best I've ever had, she's zeroed in on things that other therapists usually ignore. She pushes me a little harder, which really is fine with me. They're wonderful, they'll start you with warm ups and they'll give you a massage before sending you back to your room. I love that you can do your own personal decorating in your own room for occasions like Easter or St. Paddy's Day. I like that there are shutter boxes where you can put your family pictures. It adds a personal touch. Everybody knows your name here, and they know who you are before you even know who they are. I'm in a companion suite, and if I had this whole suite to myself it would be huge. I put my clothes chest in the closet and there's a ton of room still, the pantry is also huge, and the bathroom is wonderful. My wheelchair just fits around here fine. At first I was homesick, but they always have something going on like games, movies, and we even had an Easter party today for the families."

"I like that the memory care of Arden Courts of Elk Grove is a separate building and it's clean. The staff is very nice. It's very colorful and there's a lot of staff. I just really liked it. There are activities from the minute mom gets up until the minute she goes to bed. She is active the whole time she's there, which is very important for memory care. The food is very good. They have hairdressing, doctors coming into her, and a craft area. Since it's a separate building for memory care, Mom doesn't have to be locked away from the other residents. For me, that feels better. They have everything that they need and they're very well cared for."
