Independent Living Communities in Oak Brook, IL

"I visited a friend in Cantata Adult Life Services in Brookfield. It was called The British Home. He is in assisted living. He is completely handicapped. It's wonderful. They have bus service available. They seem to give him very good care. I believe the cost there is a little more than I can afford. He's a little better off money wise than I am. The meals are quite good. He doesn't complain. They even give them extra bacon when he likes it. He's very happy with the meals, and they seem quite nice when I was there. I didn't eat there, but he's very happy with them. It's a very clean facility and it has been around forever. It's a very nice facility. It's an older facility (at least the original part). They have activities for the residents. They have a gym, and they have sponsored outings. He's very happy there. It's always been an excellent facility. The staff members were very nice when I visited him. The only thing he doesn't like is that they follow his diet, and they won't give him sweets. He doesn't really partake on activities because he is kind of a loner. They basically get him out of bed, and they wheel him. He sits out in the dayroom. As far as group activities, he doesn't partake of that. It's not his thing."

"The Devonshire of Lisle is very clean, very comparable. The good thing about this facility is you can move up to nursing care if and when you need it. The staff is very friendly. The residents are out and about, very active, playing games, playing bingo, eating lunch. It was a great place. I would probably choose this facility. "

"After a poor experience in their first independent living community, my in-laws were on the hunt for their “forever home”. After scouring the Western Suburbs for that perfect fit, they landed at Clarendale of Addison. From the moment we walked into this facility we were warmly greeted and met with nothing but patience when asking a variety of questions about life at Clarendale. We signed on the dotted line the next day and planned for an early April 2020 move in. And then, COVID. Transparently, we were panicked. We had already given 60 day move out notice at their current residence, signed a lease with Clarendale and put a deposit down with a moving company. Sensing our worry, Clarendale stepped in and assured us they would be flexible with move in date and, when move in day arrived, they had an organized and, most importantly, SAFE procedure to get my in-laws settled. Since their arrival, Clarendale has been nothing but accommodating - providing breakfast free of charge when under stay at home orders, delivering both lunch and dinner to residents, having a weekly activity in which staff go door to door with a nacho bar, happy hour, sundae bar, hawaiian themed treats, etc, opening the gym for resident use with safety protocols in place...the list goes on and on. The food is INCREDIBLE with a rotating menu of specials and variety of options to choose from; there was an entire week that my mother-in-law lamented over Facetime to us about having to choose between steak and lobster (she couldn’t get both because “the portions are too big”). They have also been incredibly communicative with resident’s families from sharing weekly updates to having an open line of communication with Clarendale’s Executive Director. Their handling of the pandemic has been extraordinary considering the circumstances; always communicating developments and changes quickly to residents, and being proactive in imposing safety measures, including free weekly testing for all residents. Suffice it to say, my in-laws have found their “forever home”. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, Clarendale of Addison."

"I have been at Brookdale Oak Park five months. The workers are helpful and friendly. The residents are okay. The food is very good. The location is great because it is close to sun and centrally located."

"The rooms, activities, and food at Franciscan Village seem fine. The staff seems to take a little while to become familiar with what a resident’s needs are. I was expecting them to be a lot quicker as far as knowing what my mom’s condition is and how they can help her. We just went to the facility yesterday and had a big meeting with their other department heads, and they seem to be doing a lot better now. They seem responsive to our needs and concerns.   Sometimes it seems like the staff is a little late on the night shift.  She usually needs help in the early morning hours and they are kind of on the short staff side. They have church service every day, and they have all the usual games and activities like card games and bingo. They have plenty of things to keep the residents active. The property and the location are perfect and the grounds are beautiful. The food is great. She has not had any complaints about it. "

"I was very impressed with Autumn Green. The location was convenient. The employees were really great, readily available, and showed us everything. The only problem for my brother was that he couldn't afford it. They had crafts and an indoor pool. "

"The staff at Story Point is excellent. The vast majority and I do mean vast majority take ownership and pride in their jobs. 100% of the staff are respectful, caring, compassionate and patient with the residences. They treat the residences like they are their own family members. When you first enter Story Point you are greeted by the receptionist. Not only are they there to assist guest but also there to assist the residents with scheduling appointments like transportation, hair appointments, etc. They also assist the residences with issues or problems that might come up that are non-medicial. They are very engaging with a smile to guests and residents. With guest they make you feel welcome and are always asking if there is anything you need to let them know. You can tell they really mean it. They are even better working with the residences. Sometimes the residences are upset or anxious about something. I have witness first hand many of times these individuals working to make sure the issues are resolved. But most important the resident is comfortable with how the situation was going to be resolved. They know all residences by name. The nurses and caregivers in Assistant Living are outstanding. They are extremely compassionate, sensitive, caring and patient with their residences. A few weeks back my mother had to be taken to the hospital in the afternoon and returned back to Story Point that evening. I stayed with my mother that night. Two caregivers heard about my mother falling the day before, came into her apartment to check on her before starting their shift that morning. Wow, that is caring!! Today was my mother's 99th birthday. The caregiver was assigned to my mother today really took pride and ownership to make sure my mother looked great for her family party. The caregiver was really excited that she helped my mom. That got me excited to see how the caregiver was so excited. When my mother is having a bad day the vast majority of the caregivers embrace the situation with kindness, patience, helpfulness and not run from it. I witness this with the nursing team as well. The caregivers are not treating my mother special. I have seen them treat other residences the same way. Very caring. The nurses really do a great job as well getting to know the residences. You ask them a question, they know what is going on with each resident. They are very approachable. My mother moved into the Assisted Living unit back in 2018 when it was still Spring Meadows. Honestly I could not write this review back then. The management team at Story Point has done a excellent job hiring the right people who are caring, compassionate, respectful, etc. These type of people is who you want helping your love ones. I "

"I loved Autumn Green at Midway Village, it was pleasant. I liked the apartment for what I would need. The person who talked to me was very informative, answered all of my questions, made me feel that she was willing to help me, and was very open with all the information. I don’t have any bad thing to say about the place, and the location was perfect for me."

"Generations at Oakton Arms was probably smaller than the other place. I would say probably the size of the facility was better. It was not too big. What I liked least about it was that it needed some updating. The staff was very friendly and very approachable. They offer independent, assisted living, and memory care. They have a lot to offer. And the nice thing about that place is that they transfer you automatically. If you are in independent living, they will send you right next door to the assisted living, and they do that right there in-house, which is nice."

"My aunt is a resident at Monarch Landing and she was very happy there. The staff was very nice to her. I saw their dining room and it was always quite impressive. They place has a computer room, a gymnasium, a swimming pool so it was quite extensive. "

"I toured Clarendale Six Corners for my uncle. It's convenient. They seem to care, and that he's going to get the care that he needs. It seemed like a nice place. The staff was very friendly, very informative, and caring. The facility was brand-new. The size of the room was adequate and seemed to have a positive atmosphere."

"Friendly, helpful staff, clean building, with some areas' newly remodel. They should continue to remodel as money is available. Chapel; is beautiful, love the birds in meeting areas. It would be preferred if small pets allowed or have a social service dog. "

"My mother-in-law lives here. It is very nice, and they have good food. She got a nice studio apartment. They do bingo, card games, pool, and pinochle, and they have trips to different things around the city. She's happy with the place."
