"I visited The Clare for myself. They are absolutely fantastic, and if I would go to a senior home, this would definitely be the one, but it’s a little too expensive for me. The amenities there were very good. The food was absolutely delicious, and the top floor was just like a fine dining restaurant and very elegant. It was really beautiful. "

"My mother has severe Alzheimers and has been residing at the Self Help home for the past 4 years.She entered with only mild dementia and living independently until she became more and more impaired. Her 85th birthday is in a few weeks , and although she doesnt appear to know who we are anymore. at least shes around to celebrate it. Self Help home has made us,her family, feel safe .My mom has had excellent care there all these years , and the administration and staff there have been very warm and nurturing throughout these very difficult years. Mom cant do anything for herself anymore , but is well-taken care of, and we know this excellent standard of care will continue as long as she is there. "

"We settled on Holmstad for mother. I liked the concept of a continuing care community, it was a large enough size, and financially stable. Additionally, they have catered care which was in between independent living and assisted living, which was appealing to us. We were looking at an apartment. I toured it four times, and for the different levels, they had different people that keep the residents engaged in social activities. The food was great."

"My parents live in the facility and love it. Activites and food are great. The staff is excellent. Every one of them is friendly, kind, helpful, and very supportive of the residents. If my parents need extra assistance the staff will help arrange it. You couldn't ask for a better place to live! "

"My aunt and uncle shared a room in the nusing unit of the health care wing for two years. The staff was very caring and engaging. They encouraged them to join activities; and several family day social events were held during the year. The rooms were very clean, but needed updating. We chose this facility because it is run by the Franciscan Sisters and is part of the Catholic Archdioses. Mass was held every Sunday morning in the chapel, and is also televised. Overall, I was very happy with the staff and got to know many of them. Anytime I had a concern about my aunt or uncle, the head nurse and nurse on duty would address it immediately. "

"Great place for your last move. Sedgebrook has so much to offer from beautiful apartment options, indoor parking garage with places to park on same floor as your apartment, Medical Center, Cardinal Market, beauty salon, fitness center, swimming pool and many activities offered both on campus and outings.. It is a very friendly place and it doesn't take long for staff to call you by name. Security checks made daily to make sure all is ok. I highly recommend Sedgebrook as your next home."

"I was very impressed with Beacon Hill. The staff seemed to be very nice and pleasant, and the people seemed very satisfied. They had cards, games, a big swimming pool, and exercise room. The food was OK. "

"I thought Plymouth Place was a very nice place. It was an excellent facility. It really was like the Cadillac of nursing homes or as assisted living or independent living. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I have no qualms about going there for rehab, and if I ever needed independent or assisted living, I probably would consider them, but I don't think I can afford it. They seemed to have a lot of good activities for the residents. They had movies, bingo, and arts classes. One of my friends was in there for rehab on her knee. I visited her, we were talking, and all of a sudden it was time for her art class. I have not eaten there, but my friend said it was like going to a five-star restaurant. She said the food was absolutely fantastic. "

"Mom is at Oak Trace. Her room is very nice: nice crown molding and wonderful wardrobes. The staff has been quite good. They really try to cater to their needs. They have been very good about communicating. Yesterday, they had a little jelly bean thing going for the season, and then they served coffee and cookies for free. Today, there’s a voice recital and a choral group coming in to give concerts. They have speakers come in. They’re pretty active. "

"My parents are staying in King-Bruwaert House. That place is awesome; it's off the top of the chart. There's nothing like it. It is way beyond all expectations. It's gorgeous. The staff and the services are off the top of the chart. They're awesome. The staff has been helpful. They regularly take the residents to downtown Chicago to see plays, they have high school and junior high bands come in and sing jazz songs, they have social hour with martinis and wines, and they have movie nights. One thing that's lacking that really bothers me is even though they have all kinds of exercising areas, they don't have an adult warm bath pool for doing aerobics in. I think in a super, high-quality community like that they should have a warm bath pool for seniors. When I ate there, I wasn't really all that impressed with the couple of meals I had, but they were OK. The service was unbelievable. Other than that, the community is awesome."

"We choose Windsor Park Manor because we like everything about it and it is close. It is very nice and clean. The staff is very good. My mom's room is spacious enough and my mom enjoys the food. They have activities. However, my mom is not involved with them yet. "

"We explored Central Baptist Village while searching in a facility for our mother who, at the time, had just progressed definitely into what most would call "mid stage" dementia. Our mother's condition was especially critical in our consideration of Central Baptist Village, as opposed to other facilities; I say this because while Central Baptist is clearly a well-run facility with many positive attributes, it may not be the best environment for those who still have the majority of their faculties and are able to function independently. Central Baptist is, indeed, a "village". By this I mean that it consists of three different entities all on the same campus- a senior living apartment complex, an assisted-living facility, and a full-care nursing facility. In this sense, it may be ideal for those seeking long-term stability for those only recently diagnosed with a progressive, debilitating disease. One can establish residence in the independent-living area, then move to other facilities as their condition requires; once at central Baptist Village, one can remain there indefinitely. However, having no need for the independent living or the full-care elements, I can only relay our impression of the assisted living facility. The grounds- set in a pleasant suburban environment- were inviting, and the amenities included inviting common areas and an attractive chapel; however, the overall atmosphere, while efficient and clean, was more "clinical" than we thought ideal for someone still able to comprehend their surroundings. The broad and open hallways, though extremely functional, lacked any considerable warmth; the rooms, though ample in size, lacked personality. Though warmer than hospital rooms, they were decidely utilitarian. Perhaps the most unappealing aspect of the facility was that all residents with any sort of memory issue were under considerable restriction. The majority of the common areas were accessable to residents only with supervision. Of course, while this situation is completely appropriate- ideal, actually- for those whose dementia has advanced to the point where confusion is common, the level of restriction we observed was, we felt , unnecessary and intimidating for those still with their wits about them. In summation, Central Baptist Village's assisted living component is an efficient and comprehensive place for those requiring continuous supervision. The knowledge that one can remain at Central Baptist through their final days is also a considerable asset to many. However, the atmosphere here might not be particularly therapeutic to, nor appreciated by, those who are not yet resigned to their condition."

"This facility is located on the north side of chicago it serves a population of adults who have been diagnoised with a developmental disability. They only provide services to female residents. While there I noticed some of the residents were sharing a room. They have a full clinical staff that provides services to the residents 24 hrs a day. the meals are prepared by the staff, and on special occassions and when doing food activites, the staff will allow the residents to assist in the preparation of the meals. The facility is clean, and well-maintained. The staff is very hands on, and the residents seem to have a closeness with one another. In general, I would rank this facility a 4 out of 5 stars. "
