I am/was a resident of this facility

I live at The Clare in a one-bedroom apartment with a balcony and a beautiful view. The layout is excellent. The dining here is exceptional. Our chef is internationally recognized, but more importantly, he is committed to using high-quality, healthy ingredients. The meals are varied and gourmet every day, with multiple options—not just one fish, one chicken, or one beef dish. I actually prefer eating here to dining out. What stands out most is how carefully they accommodate individual needs. In my case, my dietary requirements are clearly noted—low sodium, olive oil only, and specific preparation due to GERD—and they follow this consistently and thoughtfully. The staff throughout the building are outstanding. They are well trained and, just as important, they are warm and attentive. Whether it is the front desk, concierge, dining staff, or maintenance, everyone greets residents kindly. There is also a wide range of activities, from music of different eras to classical performances and many other programs. There is truly something for everyone. It feels like living on a luxury cruise ship with excellent amenities, except you also have the freedom to come and go as you please. The Clare is a continuing care community, offering independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care. That became very important to me shortly after I moved in. Within six weeks of arriving, I became seriously ill and was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma. I spent several months in the skilled nursing area, where I received extraordinary care. They managed my medications, my very specific dietary needs, and provided physical therapy, all while ensuring my safety during a time when my immune system was severely compromised. I am now in remission, nine years later and I am deeply grateful for the care I received here. The Clare is not a place you come because you are sick—it is a place you come to live well. It offers security, community, and support at every level of care. I would highly recommend it.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My aunt recently completed a stay at The Clare after breaking her hip, and the experience exceeded every expectation. From our very first visit, the staff made our entire family feel welcome. Everyone was so friendly, and the food was exceptional. I even had the chance to meet the Executive Chef, Hagop. My aunt kept saying she felt like she was staying at a resort rather than recovering from an injury. One of the staff members went above and beyond by bringing her extra hair ties and even braiding her hair. She also had her hair done in the salon and talked about it for days. These small, thoughtful touches meant so much to her. The therapy team was remarkable. When she arrived, she was in significant pain and barely able to move. With the nurses managing her medications and the therapists working with her each day, she slowly regained her strength. By the time she left, she was walking the hallways on her own and getting in and out of the car. I don’t know what we would have done without The Clare. Now that she’s home, she tells me all the time how much she misses the delicious food and the caring people who helped her heal. We are so grateful for the compassion and expertise she received.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived at The Clare for ten years. When I moved in, I was still traveling extensively so being somewhere that provided security was important. It is located in the middle of all the action in Chicago, and since I have lived near here it was an obvious choice. I really did not look anywhere else, because The Clare was the perfect place. The staff are efficient and gracious, the food is worthy of a five-star restaurant, and the many activities can appeal to a variety of interests. The residents are friendly, and you can be as involved or not as you choose. The building is beautiful; since I moved here every public area has been remodeled or redecorated to bring it up the highest standards. Also, knowing there is continuing care if needed adds an important sense of security.

I am/was a resident of this facility

What will we do with mom and dad is not a question our kids had to ask. Mom and dad decided what to do with ourselves by moving into The Clare when it opened in 2008. At The Clare there are many new friends, superb leadership in our management team and excellent services offered to residents by a quality staff, from dining, to an array of activities, ongoing maintenance and housekeeping, transportation provided with a car and bus and a security team of EMTs. Our location in downtown Chicago can't be beat with cultural events nearby, easy access to shopping and services the city offers and lovely walks in the neighborhood and along Lake Michigan. And, of course, the long term care plan means peace of mind for our whole family. It was a good decision to come here years ago and continues to be a wise one, today.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived at the Clare for nearly 16 years. It is very much "home", but in addition to that, it is FAMILY—residents and staff caring deeply for one another.. Life here enhances the good experiences of my earlier life. The excellent staff perform unbelievable services; the food is extraordinary. I cannot imagine living anywhere else. I couldn't be happier.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

I visited The Clare recently. I have a sister living there and I was there after chemotherapy bouts in both skilled nursing and assisted living. We now have an independent living unit there. It is quite different from what you have down here. It is a vertical high-rise apartment in downtown Chicago, so it is quite different. The food is very good. The staff is equally good. They have movies, and they will take you to local events like opera, theatre, and the symphony. You can go out the door and access five or six good restaurants. It is something you can't do down here. The food in the assisted living is not their best food, but in independent living it is much better.

Provider Response

We appreciate your positive review about your recent experience with us! We hope to see you soon!

I visited this facility

The Clare was very nice but a little expensive. The facility was excellent, like a 5-star hotel. They had the medical facilities, a wellness center, and an emergency team that can take you to the hospital or an ambulance. The staff was very well organized. They had a marketing team and staff who helped people. They had a chef and three kinds of places to eat, one being a very formal place, the second a bistro, and the third for coffee and snacks. It's a very large place with 54 floors.

The Clare in Chicago Illinois was beautiful with unbelievable facilities. They have a swimming pool. They have four restaurants in the building and classes every subject from arts to nature subjects. They are very well organized, and they have interesting groups and classes -- just a fabulous place.

I visited this facility

I visited The Clare for myself. They are absolutely fantastic, and if I would go to a senior home, this would definitely be the one, but it’s a little too expensive for me. The amenities there were very good. The food was absolutely delicious, and the top floor was just like a fine dining restaurant and very elegant. It was really beautiful.

We talked to a representative at The Clare, had lunch, and visited a couple of apartments, which were very nice. The dining area was quite good, and they had a garden, which was a place to sit. They have people who can come in, or they have intensive care out of the apartment.

I visited this facility

It was not difficult at all to enter in The Clare because their occupancy was only 40% or so. So, you could easily get into independent living. But once you were in and you declined to actually go to assisted living and end up to the nursing home facility which were all in the same building. It's pretty difficult because their nursing home does not had enough beds relative to the people who were healthier and don't need nursing facilities in that point in time. The Clare charges a hell of an upfront fee and you would find high quality arts on the wall. So, it's meant for clientele that were at the moment reasonably healthy and want to be near Chicago Symphony, the Arts institute, the History Museum, the Aquarium. So, it's a great location for those who were wealthy enough to enjoy what Chicago has to offer. So, people would go there because it's fancy and if they could afford it and they had that kind of liquid cash, they were setting up for when they get old later. So, they were living in a convenient location, then they don't have to go anywhere if they need assisted care.

Visited this facility

My great-uncle has lived in Chicago for most of his life. The idea of staying in a nursing home isn't appealing to him, and it was important that we found him a place where he could easily visit his friends and family. We found the Clare at Water Tower assisted living facility in the heart of the city in the downtown area, near the Magnificent Mile. It is easy to get to by public transport, which most of his family uses regularly. The staff is very friendly, attentive and it was clear that they can easily handle the needs of its residents. There were apartment and room options which could easily fit his cherished furniture pieces. Since it is a high-rise building, the views of the city are fantastic. The fitness and aquatic center is as nice as any high-end day spa, which they also have. They show films in the media and entertainment center. The business center is great for busy visitors. My uncle paints, so the creative arts studio was a nice surprise. They offer many events through a partnership with Loyola University Chicago. My great-uncle used to tend a small garden so he really appreciated the fresh food options, like fresh salads and other vegetables available. He is on a strict Diabetic diet and the Clare offers an array of small meals and snacks that looked really well-suited to his needs. We went to quite a few facilities in the area, and The Clare was the best one yet! Definitely 5 stars!
