I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother started at Park Place in Independent Living for her first 2 years and a few month ago (since Covid) has moved to Assisted Living. As someone suffering from mild (now mild-moderate) dementia, my Mom was not only treated with the upmost respect, she was embraced as part of the Park Place community. She was not eager to make this move but her condition dictated that she not live completely alone and isolated, and Park Place Independent Living was a wonderful place to land. People there (both residents and staff) got to know her and kept an eye on her as her needs changed over time. There is plenty to keep her engaged while keeping her dignity and autonomy, and her apartment was beautiful, spacious and just what she needed. (The food is really good, too!) When the time came, the staff at Park Place was kind and respectful about her needing to move to more help in Assisted Living and heard our concerns and needs as we made this shift during the pandemic. Even with the pandemic restrictions, my Mom is doing great thanks to the staff at Park Place keeping an eye on her needs. Pre or during the pandemic, Park Place has had excellent communication with us at all times. We never feel left in the dark, and they make every effort to keep their residents connected through virtual or in-person visits as rules allowed, and made special accommodations for the holidays. While there is no perfect solution during a pandemic, Park Place has gone above and beyond. I highly recommend looking into them as a continuing care retirement community. My Mom feels safe, we feel like she's safe and cared for, and in this uncertain time, there's not much more we can ask for.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

In her 4 years as an Assisted Living resident my sister has come to call Park Place of Elmhurst Health & Wellness Center her home. As a frequent visitor I have enjoyed seeing her participate in activities and have observed her positive interaction with caregivers and staff and recognize how much those relationships mean to her personally. The dedication and professionalism of this community has certainly become apparent and is so relevant during this time of Covid and I have been reassured and am grateful for the communication that has been provided literally on a daily basis. As my sister now transitions into Memory Care, I am confident that the quality of care and her experiences will continue to be positive.

I am/was a resident of this facility

This was a very pleasant experience, in spite of health issues that brought me here. The admissions rep., Kim, was very helpful in coordinating the transfer from the hospital.

Park Place has a sign outside their entrance that reads, “Park Place, a Christian Community”... and I would also add, “a wonderful community!” A caring, loving and helpful staff and management. A wide variety of activities and programs offered throughout the day for residents. Several choices of room size and layouts available.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I went to Park Place on the advice of my doctor. I'd had a total knee replacement and needed residential rehab. The rehab was wonderful because it was provided by Marianjoy, which has a terrific reputation. The rehab room was bright and cheery, if a little cramped. Therapists got along well (a good sign), were friendly, and persistent in achieving patient goals. Park Place itself is all smoke and mirrors. Decor and decorating are pleasant, but the beds break down. I was in the room when a second bed was brought in. The engineer (under the bed)muttered how they were always breaking down. Another engineer, working on another problem, said that management was milking it (Park Place) for money, but not putting anything into keeping everything running. Lunch in the dining area comes with a linen napkin. Dinner is a paper one. The food comes from a short order kitchen. Some comes from the residential building next door. It is bland and poorly presented. A cheese sandwich for supper is just that: slightly toasted white bread with a piece of American cheese in the middle on a beige plate. No garnish. Nothing to make it appetizing. The staff person who answers your call button (no speaker system) is the same person who retrieves your meal from the kitchen. They are overworked and not very enthusiastic. If you are unable to move about under your own steam, you'll wait a long time for a glass of water. At one meal an administrator approached the table and asked everyone how things were. Three of the ladies politely said, "Fine," but I was the one with the cheese sandwich, so I said, "Dreadful." He did not wait for an explanation. He merely said, "Oh" and moved along. That says volumes. I will go back to Park Place for my second knee replacement when it is time. You can't beat the therapists and I'll need someone to fill the ice chiller for my knee, but I'll leave as soon as I can, just like the first time.
