"My dad stayed at La Villa Grande Care Center for rehab. He ate the food, it was okay, but he wasn't a fan. He's picky. However, there was some stuff he did eat that he enjoyed, and they tried to offer like, 'Oh, you don't like that? Let me get you something else.' The room looked very similar to a hospital room. There were hospital beds, and there were two beds in a room. He did have a roommate that couldn't hear, so he had the TV up all the time. Plus, he was incontinent, so the room did not smell very good. The staff there was friendly. They had activities. I think they did one or two activities in the cafeteria room. They had movies or music games or things like that. They had a dental service where she would come and go to your room or take you to another room and clean your teeth if you so choose. They also would have somebody that could cut hair that would come to the room and get you. My dad did not participate in any of the activities. I think all nursing homes smell. They're there because they need nursing care, so a lot of them are incontinent, and a lot of them are in wheelchairs can't talk and who can't feed themselves. It was depressing, but I know they were all doing the best they can do with the clientele that they have. "

"My Aunt has been diagnosed of Dementia and the time came she needs to be in a home suitable with her illness. Being her niece and Guardian I only want the best for her. And I wasn't wrong when I chose Western Slope Memory Care to be her home. The place is absolutely wonderful! From her room, the food and the people and care she gets, everything is perfect. "

"We only investigated a shared apartment at The Fountains of Hilltop. We found all the facilities, the activities, and the service to be excellent. Excellent recreation and food service. The food facilities were outstanding, but we did not participate in the meal. We interacted with the staff who gave us the tour and she anticipated our questions and issues with them with a lot of sensitivity."

"My brother-in-law was a resident of The Commons of Hilltop Assisted Living. The place was very nice. It's not quite as warm and inviting, slightly more sterile in its colors and look, but very nicely furnished. The staff is wonderful, and the food is fabulous. There were other activities, and the rest of it was all very good. They have a two-bedroom with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom with a shower included, so it was very comfortable but a little pricey."

"We got my wife in Vineyards Memory Care, which is close to the house. It is only 3 miles from the house, and they keep me updated on how she's doing. She seems to be adapting well there, so I'm glad about that. She has been there for three days now. It is in a nice residential neighborhood with lots of trees and greenery, and it's very nice. They have been very helpful, and they keep me informed on how she's doing, so I have no complaints whatsoever. They play different kinds of games and things like that. She has some word puzzles and word searches, and she enjoys them. They keep them pretty busy with each other. It's well kept up, it looks nice, it is very attractive from the outside and it smells nice and clean on the inside."

"My husband was at The Center at Foresight. I never went in there because at that time, Covid was really bad. My husband said that they got good food and they got good care. In fact, I wish he's back at The Center at Foresight because he is going to get a lot better care there than he is getting right now. He said that the care there was really good. He really liked the people there, and he got along with most of them as far as the staff. They had a sunroom where he could get out and I could wave at him. The only thing that I had a problem with them is that they don't do laundry. I had to go down once a week, 100 miles to get his laundry. My husband had all good comments about that place. The experience I had with them, everything was good."

"My father moved into Mantey Heights Rehabilitation & Care Center and it's amazing. The staff has been wonderful, and the food has been great so far. The staff has been amazing and very thorough in telling us exactly what's been going on, so we don't have any guess work. We've been calling a lot to check on him and they've been great about letting us, so we have no complaints. His room right now is private because they're doing a two-week quarantine because of the COVID, but he'll be in a room with someone else. They have everything. They have transportation, activities, therapy, and rehab. So it's a full-capacity nursing facility."

"We moved mom to Grandview Care Lodge. They're a small place. They have a maximum of only eight residents and that was the reason that we chose that place. This way she could get some more individualized care. Where she was at was pretty impersonal, especially compared to this place. She seems to be better adjusted, and it's because she's not in a place with a hundred people. They always know where she is. So far, it's worked out great. She fits in well with the people. She's adjusted really well. It's more like a family environment. She gets to socialize with people as well. It's so much better. The people that run it are very nice and very personable. Mom gets care whenever she needs it. She's adapted really well to the place. She's happier than where she was. They have private rooms. They've done a number of activities. It was built by the owner about 15 years ago, but it's very well maintained. There's a central dining area and that's where the meals are. They have a little gym in there, although it rarely gets used. The residents at this facility (at least the ones that are there now) are typically older than the ones where she's at. It's not a nursing home, but it is advanced assisted living. The staff is all competent. They know how to deal with elderly people. The food is adequate. It's not great food. The rooms are a little bit small. I've seen them doing activities a couple of times. For the amount they're doing, they're pretty reasonably priced."

"I toured The Residence at Grand Mesa. The staff was fantastic. I think there were two rooms, no kitchens, just a place to put your icebox and microwave, but they were nice. And I wanted to get in there because I could walk here and there."

"My tour at The Retreat at Harbor Cove was more spontaneous. They wanted to go over paperwork first before they would show you the room, then we started talking, and they said that they were going to split my parents. They said they were 8 x 10 rooms and all they had was a bed and a closet in the room. They could have a chair if they wanted to, but there were no facilities, no self-serving sink, or anything like that. You had to share those kinds of facilities with another client in a different room. It was like a boarding house more or less than it was an assisted living. I would not leave my parents there, not even once. They smelled like urine. I don't know if they were having a bad day that day or not. The staff was very knowledgeable. She was trying to be very friendly, but there was a client that was there that was sitting in a wheelchair who told me, "Don't even look here" and that scared me. I started the whole tour on the defensive. The residents were not happy. They should improve on cleanliness and make it more of a personal care instead of overall care. I realized that they probably didn't have the funding for facilities or bathrooms, but they should at least have a sink, especially with everything that's going around right now, you need that special treatment or care to make sure that you don't pass it on to someone else. There is no way that you could keep a clean environment by sharing a bathroom with three other people that you have no control over or let alone know."

"I wasn't completely satisfied with Bee Hive Homes Of Grand Junction. One particular male worker I found to be distant and almost uncaring. It was just a business to him. My husband was very unhappy there and unless you were really quite ill, you had to come to the table for meals. They had a long porch where people could go out and sit, and I'd encourage my husband to walk and sit out in the fresh air, but the chairs and tables looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in six months or a year so that bothered me. The location was good though. Outwardly it looked good unless you sat down on the chairs which had cobwebs on it. They had a big TV room which most people didn't even bother to go and watch in. Before Halloween, they had a gentleman come in and carve pumpkins. When it was somebody's birthday, ordinarily a family member took care of it, not the facility. As far as the room my husband had, it was a nice size with its own private bathroom and they laundered the sheets."
