"At the start, Peninsula Pointe by Cogir was wonderful. We had a great team that welcomed my mother. They're very attentive. The place is brand new at that point, so it was very clean and had good food choices. Since then, there have been some changes in the management, and there have been some issues. It's a large community for assisted living as well as elderly care. The memory care itself is what I'm more familiar with, which is about 14 to 16 residents, male and female. They have a lot of activities. They're always doing holiday stuff. There are little get-togethers, like they had a brunch for Grandparents Day. They were supposed to have a petting zoo, and it got canceled. Most of the common areas are in the lobby, and they also have a second floor where they have little concerts. They seem to have a lot of good music. They have one outdoor patio. Other than me taking my mom out there, I've not seen them go out, but they have a van, and they do community drives. The people are very nice, but my mom is speaking her native tongue. The residents are mostly Caucasian, so it's been hard. When I first went there, there were other people of color, and I don't know if they transferred out or moved. I'm just looking for more diversity. It's also costly."

"I have a family member who lives at Palos Verdes Villa. The staff have been nothing but kind, very accommodating, above and beyond. I've found them generous, responsive, and unbelievably hard-working. The facility itself I found clean, well-maintained, in a nice area next to a large park. I'm hugely grateful knowing my family member is safe, comfortable, well-cared for. My experience with PV Villa has been nothing but positive."

"My sister has been at Vista Del Mar for two years. While her health has declined, the care she received has ramped up! She has a degenerative muscular disease so when we moved, we wanted the reassurance that she would be well cared for. I can’t say enough good things about this facility. The rooms are spacious and clean. The food is delicious. The staff is WARM and CARING. She feels like she is living with family. There are fun activities, field trips, movies, cooking classes, etc. It’s like Adult and Elderly Camp! Other residents have the same claims. They really enjoy being in a place where family is always welcome and the staff treats clients with kindness."

"We went to Bay Towers at Bixby Knolls. We loved it, but the price was too high for us. But it was so clean and so nice. It's a beautiful facility. Everything was well-kept. I liked that the floors were clean, and the rooms were maintained. It was a nice community, but it was too independent from my father-in-law. The dining room was beautiful. They had a nice table and nice chairs. It's also like their social room. It was very clean. They had a nice garden. The staff who gave the tour was very nice and very informative. The doors in the rooms were very wide and each room had a different doorknob like a bird, an anchor, or a butterfly. So they customized them for the residents. We wish my father-in-law could have done that, but he's beyond that level of independence. He needs more assistance."

"I toured Ivy Park at Playa Vista. It looks very high end like resort-style. They have multiple small rooms for reading and dining. It seems like a very nice place to live in for the elderly. It's new, too. The staff who gave the tour was pretty good. They take their time, and they're very friendly. Compared to others, they're more diligent in what they're doing and seem very willing to help cater to what we need."

"My daughter, a longtime resident of Santa Monica, found this place for me, an elderly widower. I am glad she did. The location is perfect, across the street from the beach, and near the pier. The 10th floor Activity area with inside and outside facilities, has a beautiful view of Santa Monica harbor and its surroundings. Outside entertainment is brought in and there are in house activities for every taste. Transportation is provided for medical appointments, shopping, as well as errands. There is a lot of variety in the meals, and they are tasty. The staff is great, particularly the activities department. They know your name and are most accommodating. The residents are welcoming and have interesting backgrounds. I love it here and know you would to."

"A couple of weeks ago, I visited Hollenbeck Palms in Los Angeles and I like that very much. They have a chapel which is unique. The location is not ideal as the surrounding area is not exactly high class but I still really like it. It's the best out of every place that I have visited so far. The people were very friendly. I was able to meet a number of residents and I was impressed by how friendly they were. I only met one staff member and she was very helpful. I would rate her very highly. I probably need to say though that all I can afford at Hollenback is a studio apartment because if you're going to get a 1-bedroom, there's a substantial buy-in of over $200,000. That is a bit of a difficulty for me. I was also impressed by the food. I had lunch there with some nice people. The food was the best of all that I have had and I had lunch at several places I visited. They had the one thing the others did not have and that's the chapel. That appeals very much to me."

"We went here. We loved the staff. They seemed to be very responsive. At the time that we visited, they were a little more open, so we were able to tour the facility quite a bit. It's got wonderful grounds and a little garden or patio on two floors, so it was very, very nice. It was a big contender. The biggest drawback was the location. The staff was the reason that I decided that this was the right time to move mom into an assisted living. She really understood where I was coming from, and she was very, very supportive. If we live closer to Santa Monica, I would have chosen that one. I know they had a gameroom, a library, and small patios on some of the units, which would have been nice for mom."

"My dad was a resident of Astoria Senior Living for last three years of his life. I will be forever grateful to the owners, Inna and Sofia, not only for taking such good care of my father but also for the generous assistance they offered me to find solutions to every detail of his care. Astoria is an outstanding place. My father had been to several places prior to Astoria where he wasn't bathed, and his clothes were always dirty, or his belongings were stollen, or his meds weren't administered correctly. None of that happens at Astoria. They care about their residents and get personally involved with with their needs. I didn't feel like I was handling it alone anymore. Inna and Sofia treated us like family. My dad was welcomed with open arms. They baked him a birthday cake the day he arrived and sang to him. He smiled that day for the first time in a long time and I sighed with relief. He had his own private room that was clean and neat as was the rest of the facility at all times. Every time I visited, which was often, he was always clean with fresh clothes on. They have a lovely sundeck with umbrella's where the residents can sit and soak in fresh air when weather permits. The caretakers are kind, caring and patient. Astoria feels more like a family home than it does a facility. I would highly recommend Astoria to anyone looking for a safe place for a loved one where they will be treated with dignity. Sincerely, Lisa O."

"Everything about Belmont Village Senior Living Westwood was excellent. It was a bit on the expensive side. The building and grounds were fine. The people we saw seemed to be active, well, and alert. Somebody who's in charge of prospective customers took us around, and introduced us to people, and showed off several accommodations. We looked at several, and what we were interested in was very expensive. The person who took us around was very good, very pleasant, very informative."

"I liked CityView, but it's very pricey, and there's no outdoor area. It's out in the city, so there are no grounds. It's nice and clean, but it's a little dark inside for me. "Hollywood Hills is a wonderful facility. Mom is quite comfortable with it. We, as a family, are comfortable with the way they take care of her, the atmosphere there, and the facility as a whole, like the physical therapy, the exercises, the meal plans, everything that they have to offer. We just love it. The memory care staff is wonderful. They are very caring, very understanding, and very patient. They are very specific to the needs of each person. Mom has a low sodium diet and they're very attentive to making sure that her meals are like that, but still very tasty, because she's an extremely picky eater. They have daily movies, they do field trips on Fridays, live music on Tuesdays, exercises every day during the week, lots of walking, and lots of communication with other residents and staff. Everything is pricey. You get what you pay for is true to form."
