I visited this facility

Legacy at Imperial Village was an old facility. It kind of looked like a hospital more than a home. The room was very small. The lady said it had to be painted and everything, but it was more like an old hotel room. Even though the rooms were small, they could maybe make them more homey by putting decorative molding or something. The bathtubs in there were low. If you have a bathtub that low, you might as well just put a walk-in shower. They had a guard gate but there was nobody there. Most outside space that I saw was a parking lot. They had a hair salon and a restaurant there. They had elevators, but I was told that some of them were not working. The staff who assisted me with the tour was really helpful.

Mom is living independently at Legacy at Imperial Village. It has been a very good experience. Mom has everything she needs and she is very comfortable there. We're able to contact her and visit her pretty much anytime. She makes friends all the time and they do a lot of activities together, like puzzles. The place is in very good condition and very well maintained, and there's plenty of space for the residents. There are maintenance people and people providing food services at the dining facility on the first floor. The staff there is wonderful. They have a piano and people can play music. They have a social gathering place on the first floor. They also have 2 elevators in each building. They have a very good menu and good restaurant quality food. The dining area has plenty of space, is well furnished, and they provide very good service.

Legacy at Imperial Village was one of my parents' first picks. What they liked about that was the remodeled rooms. They had granite countertops in the kitchen, and it just looked really nice and very modern. They liked the fact that they had their own pharmacy downstairs in this little shopping strip, which also had a little convenience store (so they wouldn't have to go to a grocery store), a pharmacy, a hair salon, a nice bar (which my dad loved), a cafe/restaurant, and a pool that they were building. Most of the places we looked at didn't have the pool, so this was special for them. The building was old-looking from the outside, and it's pretty tall. It seems to be overwhelming when you first look at it; but when you go in and see the actual apartments, they're nicely remodeled. They had a huge workout/exercise/fitness area with physical therapy attached to it. The pricing on this place was more reasonable to my parents because it was less than $2000 a month, but the only thing was they would have to pay mostly for everything else out of their pocket. The cafe/restaurant was remodeled and really pretty when we walked in. The menu was actually sent to us, and it looked very good and reasonable. It was like a nice breakfast lay out, lunch, and a dinner menu. We liked the huge grounds and the trails that they had, so that you could walk around the property. It was all gated, and I liked that safety feature. You have to actually go through a gate to get in there and talk to a person; then they let you in.

My relative has moved into Legacy at Imperial Village. This is very nice, very large, and has a very park like setting. It has a lot of space. She's in a one-bedroom apartment and has a lot of room. Everything's made for seniors; wide doors and walk in tubs. It has a nice-sized kitchen and bedroom. The staff are very good, and they take care of matters right away. She hasn't had any problems. They have a restaurant. Everything is indoors. They have their own restaurant and grocery store. You can go downstairs to the cafeteria, or have it delivered to your room. They have a full gymnasium, workout facility, and they have a walking trail. They have a hallway that connects the buildings that the residents use to exercise, to walk. That facility is on 27 acres, so they got a lot of walking area outside. They have monitoring systems and they keep it clean. They have washers and dryers, and that could be done better. She said that they're going to redo the whole laundry room again. I think it's very reasonable because you can get in on a low rate, or you go to a higher rate; depends on how much and what you want. If you want a deluxe apartment with all the amenities included, it's more expensive. If you want a basic apartment, it's reasonable with the rate that things are going now because everything is included, all your electric and gas.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have now settled in Legacy at Imperial Village. I'm in independent living and I do all my cooking and everything. The people are very nice. They introduced themselves. I love my apartment. It's clean. I have a gas stove. I love my bathroom. It's a walk-in shower, although I have a shower bench in there. My bedroom is extremely large. I have a double bed, a chest of drawers and a few other things. I'm not sure about all of the amenities because I came here with a broken foot. However, we have a restaurant, we have a grocery store, we have two doctors that come on Thursdays and Fridays, and we have a chapel.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived here several years and the quality of the facility has deteriorated quickly. Maintenance is non-existent. There are leaks everywhere. When it rains, residents have to wade through ankle-deep water in the garages. One resident has been trying to get his electrical outlets fixed for six weeks. There is constantly no hot water. We had none on Friday and it's out again today. It takes weeks to get a toilet seat tightened or replaced. Apartments are flooding and it has taken one tenant months to get his apartment back together. Batteries are not being replaced in smoke alarms. The maintenance director promises that work will be done at a certain time and no one shows up. Security has been decreased, "We're working on it," is the motto of the day.

My sister is living in the Legacy at Imperial Village. They've just been bought out and now have started renovations. They're putting in new carpets. Before the acquisition, the staff were not very responsive. They're slow to respond. She moved in right when the COVID started. It wasn't very clean. It was very outdated, and a lot of repairs are needed. It was not far from where I live, and it is in a very convenient location to get around to the different areas.

I did not tour the entire Legacy at the Imperial Village facility. It was just the one area I was in because they were remodeling. They're changing their facility from assisted living to independent living. The staff gave me the price of it, which was already way over half of my income. I was like, "Well, how long is this price going to be there?" She said they can raise it on their own. They can raise it every year if they want. It was very nice and very clean though. The people were very friendly and very understanding. They explained things well. I could almost see myself living there. I did see the walking area and the playground, so to speak. There were people out there. They seemed to be comfortable and enjoying themselves. I liked it because they had fencing around it. It is a beautiful place to live, in my opinion. I just wish they wouldn't keep raising the rent. I have no complaints at all about them during the tour. They were awesome, very, very knowledgeable, very patient, kind, and friendly. They had me laughing. From what I saw, it's very clean and very neat. It's an old building, so you can't expect perfection.

I've been at The Legacy at the Imperial Village, but it was a year ago. When I went there it wasn't Legacy, it was just Imperial. I thought it was a nice facility. They have a lot of activities for the seniors there. The apartment was pretty nice. It was just a 1-bedroom and had a nice size. The people and the staff seemed to be really friendly and really nice. They have a movie theater, restaurants, pharmacy, and a church. That all was a plus. It was in our price range for my sister. The price was very reasonable because everything was included: electric bill and cable bill.

My friend is going to be here. It's a really nice place. I was so impressed with them. Dawna was amazing, she was so helpful, she gave me the best tour, and she was really assuring that my friend was going to be OK. The area was so beautiful. It's right next to a place called the Botanical Gardens, so the grounds were beautiful. It was really clean and neat inside. The apartments were adorable. The staff seemed wonderful. Any resident whom I spoke with loves it there. No one had anything negative to say about even one person. Where my friend is going to be, she can actually cook for herself if she wants to. A woman came out and was asking Dawna some questions about a new system with their dining. It's going to be like in college where you have a card and you swipe it for your meals. I didn't see the meals, but I didn't hear anything negative about the food. There are a lot of activities. On every floor, there's a common room, and when I walked past it yesterday, there were a bunch of residents out there, and they were all just talking. There was a TV in there if they wanted to sit out there and watch TV with their friends. There are also a bunch of little tables where they can play cards or whatever they want to do, just talk, or have a little coffee klatch. I didn't see the dining hall itself. The residents didn't seem bored. A few of them were just walking outside because it's so beautiful here right now in Richmond. It's a really nice area where this building is. They also have shopping trips a few times a week. If they're going to the grocery store and you want to go, they'll bring you. They have transportation, which is great. I don't really know about recreational outings, like for pleasure. They were also under construction, so they're redoing all the floors and everything right now. My friend is going to be in a room like one of the model rooms that I saw, and it was beautiful. There's a lot of closet space, and it was perfect for her. I was shocked when I went there and saw how nice it was, because this is the only one in my friend's budget.

I visited Legacy at Imperial Village. The staff was very pleasant but disorganized. She had accidentally set up two tours at the same time, so I took the tour with another person. The apartments were nice but very tiny. The facility was clean, but it requires a lot of walking. I didn't see a gym, but I do think they have entertainment. They had a library and a pool table, but when I was there, everybody was congregating in the lobby.

My loved one has been staying here. The community is OK as far as aesthetics, but the staff as a whole is horrible. There's no communication. Everybody tells you something different, and if you call the facility, say you want to speak to a nurse or someone, then you leave a message, and you never get a phone call back. The building is average. It's clean and it's a nice place for somebody who's independent. They provide food, they have a cafeteria, and you can come and go as you please. They also have a bus to take you wherever you need to go. With COVID, they have cancelled much of the activities, so they can't really do much for the residents. My loved one said he didn't like the food because it was bland, but he's diabetic, so he was just used to foods with a little bit of seasoning. He was in a specific dietary plan, so anybody who goes from regular food to bland food is going to say the food isn't good.

It was very good. I was very impressed by the amenities and the style of the apartments. The model room was very nice, spacious, and it appears that all of them will have plenty of light going in. There are lots of activities, and they seemed to have all the amenities we were looking for. They do arts and crafts, they have a library, and they have quite a few things to engage the residents. They also have a community room where they can go and sit with their laptops and a social-gathering area. The customer rep who assisted us was excellent. It's a much older facility, but it's well maintained, and she said they were doing some renovation. If a new person is coming in, they would replace the carpet, paint, and whatever else is needed. On each side, they have inside courtyards with benches where they could sit and look out the window or engage in whatever activities they have been working on. There is plenty of space so that they could walk around, too.

It was a nice place. We saw a drug store in there, a doctor's office, a grocery store, a dining hall, and a snack bar. We just glanced at the dining room. It was large with chairs in it, but they won't let anybody in for now. They have a one-bedroom apartment which has a bathroom, a kitchen, and carpeting on the floor. I also saw people doing Valentine's Day crafts in the craft room, which my mom would like. They took us to a room where they do weightlifting and other things, and I was interested with the kind of exercises they had. The guy who leads the exercise class said that he just loved how they come there and lift weights. They do that on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We talked to some of the residents, and everybody said that they liked to be in there, that it was a friendly place, and the staff was nice. We didn't hear anybody complain about being there. They seemed to be happy, but because of coronavirus, they curtailed activities, which they had to because of social distancing and that makes sense. The only drawback that I have is, it's kind of an older facility, so it's not brand new.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience during your visit at Legacy @ Imperial Village (formerly Imperial Plaza)! We are in the beginning of our MAJOR renovation and facelift. Hopefully, your mom will become a new resident, and be able to watch as we restore our shine. It will be awesome for her to take part in the new and exciting things that will be and/or are happening at "LIV"... Give me a call to discuss further details about the changes, and also to discuss next steps to join the Village!! Take care....Dawna C

My friend moved in. It was based on her income, it's nice, it's friendly, and it accommodates her needs. Her room is nice, she loves it, she has a hospital bed that she bought on her own, she has her stuffed animals, she has her clothes, she has a wheelchair, she has a window, a key to come in and out, and she said she loves the space. She gets two meals a day, she loves the food, she gets room service, they come in, they clean her room once a week, she has the freedom to go outside, to get some fresh air, and she has cable. It's clean.

It was nice. Everything is a la carte. Meals are not included, but the apartment was nice. It was a big community with a lot of space to get around. Their staffmember was very nice. She followed up with us a couple of times. They have more options and more things available. They have an exercise park, a bank, and a small convenience store.

The rooms in Assisted Living are smartly laid out and offer more privacy that other places I visited. The staff was wonderful and answered all of my questions on the tour. The Sales Counselor was knowledgeable and informative about the care that would be provided for my father. The entire building was clean and smelled fresh. I really liked the variety of places to eat and all the things that will be available to my father when he moves in. A bank and a grocery store are right downstairs. They thought of everything.

My husband and I have lived here for about 3 years and for the money you can't find anything like this. We looked forever and never found anything. There are wonderful services available here. There is a doctors office on site and nurse practitioners that can come to your apartment if you cannot make it to the doctors office. The staff is very friendly as well as the residents. The staff is also very good about responding quickly to emergencies that may happen. If you have a cheerful attitude you will really enjoy yourself here.

My brother seems to be happy here. They all seem to be helpful, very friendly, and help him with his needs. My brother spends time in his room with his TV and crossword puzzles. He can get three meals a day and fix his own meals in his kitchenette. He doesn't have a stove, but he has a microwave. They also have a cafeteria and a dining room and offer transportation.

It is convenient to everything. There is a card playing group here and a knitting group. There is a movie every Tuesday and live entertainment in the auditorium every Monday. There is just something to do every single day. We have a dining room and two smaller places to eat, but you pay for your meals individually. I can sign up for transportation if I need to go to my doctor's appointment. Each building has a laundry room and a physical fitness room. I have found every staff member to be helpful and quickly responds to requests.

The general appearance is fine, and the housing is fine, but the nurses and the staff seem a little slow. They kind of do what they want to do. However, my sister is happy there. Her accommodation is fine. She likes it; it is a big campus, and she can walk around. They have music, concert, and things like that. Now, I think she is taking art class, so she does participate in the activities.

I visited and it was a nice place. Everybody was really nice. They took me up to the fifth floor and showed me a nice room, which was like a loft. It was really nice. I like that too. They have a little bit of everything, and that's what I really enjoyed about the place. They had doctors, the post office, the dentist, a little store, and a place where you can get your hair cut. They had a little bit of everything. I was really impressed. I like to mess with flowers, I have a little small garden in the back, and they have a place where I could do my own gardening. They had activities going on, and that was very interesting. They would take you out to the grocery, and I also like that idea. They have like four or five buses.

The residents were very friendly as well. I just wish they have more covered parking area because they do not have that. They have a few spaces, but it's very limited. The rest of them is open space parking and you can get wet if it's raining. But I think that is the only negative for me because the rest of it is nice. I also specially like the fact that I can rent and I do not have to buy into their food plan. And I am still capable of cooking and I like to cook.

They explained the meal package situation and they really had a nice-looking restaurant. They had a grill for grill time. They also have a little pub style where you can have a glass or wine or a hamburger which he love. They have a mini mart, a mini pharmacy, and a bank so he would really not have to go out.

There are amenities on the property like banking, a grocery store and it’s close to my home. They seem quite competent and helpful and he’s very happy. It was an older facility but it was fine. It was clean and accommodating. Their activities were pretty much the same as with what the other facility had. I thought there were a lot of similarities at what they were doing. With regards to the residents that they have there, they seemed to have a younger population even though the facility was older. I would recommend this facility but they need to clarify exactly the age level that they are providing for even though there were some who were around my age.

I did check out it through Caring.com. I had a tour with the staff there. It was a very nice facility; however, it was too big. It was a very big place. They have over 1100 residents and I think they have six buildings onsite. It did offer quite a bit. They provide daily activities, like different games, for their residents. The one thing that was very positive and good was that there was a lot of flexibility in terms of meal plans. You don't have to include all your meals and you can do ala carte. You can rent a studio or a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom but you don't necessarily have to have all the meals. You have that flexibility, so economically that's a good think for people who don't want to eat all three meals a day. They can choose what meal plans they want and that is a good feature. Also you can transition to another care level and you don't have to move again. They have a transition. So you can go into independent living to assisted living to memory, they're all in the same place and that is a good thing too.
