I lived in a senior living community, and that's McDermott Crossing. It was very nice. It was located in an area with all the conveniences, like the grocery stores, Walmart, and general shopping. Actually, across the street from our building was the Marriott Hotel, so if you have company coming into town, they could just stay over there and just walk across the street to your apartment. You could also use the Marriott. You could go over there if you want to eat dinner. They had two swimming pools, and I like that. They had aerobic classes, other exercise activities, Bible study, and always let people meet as a group to get free coffee in the morning. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was good. They only had janitors and the people in the office, so it wasn't like one of those communities where they have CNAs or anything like that. However, everybody was really nice. We had our own kitchens, but sometimes they would do little activities with food, like celebrating something. The apartment complex would buy food, and they would have like a banquet or whatever in there. They have an area where they have tables where they eat, socialize, and do different things. The place was very clean, too. I like their aerobics in the water. Then they had chair yoga and some kind of arts and crafts stuff that people would do. My rent was like $1300, and then you have to pay your utilities, which is your electric, because everything is electric. Then they had a small water bill that was connected.

McDermott Crossing is a 55+ place. It was a delightful visit. The unit I looked at was light and bright and it would be a nice apartment to have. The people I met in the hallways were delightful and they were just finishing up bingo and a lot of them came over and say hi to see if I was a new person. The staff was delightful, answered all my questions, and escorted me to the building to see the actual unit. She had a video of one similar to what I'm moving into, so she showed me that also. I saw a one-bedroom with a full kitchen and large closets, and it would be a very nice place to live. Their calendar is packed with activities. They have trips to the local casino and water aerobics because there's a heated saltwater pool. I can't wait to get in that. If you live in any of the buildings, you get to go to any of them. They've got water aerobics, a jewelry class, yoga, bus trips to the stores and the libraries, and classic movie nights. They've got a theater, game room, and Sunday church services. You don't have to leave. There's no restaurant. It's not a senior place. It's not a nursing home or anything. There's a lot of dining nearby, a lot of walking trails, birthday happy hours, and potluck dinners. They have beauty salons in both buildings and very large courtyards around the pool areas. Everything is protected with gates. I've been up there a couple of times, just driving around watching people and see what they do. The dogs are very welcome. There are little dog parks all over the place and trails that you can walk your dogs on. I saw nothing negative. They only have that one company that caters a meal once a day, so it's really designed for you to cook in your own place and go to a nearby restaurant.

My visit at McDermott Crossing was good. The staff was very helpful and since they didn't have what we were looking for, they were kind enough to send us next door. They were very nice, they gave us notes and information, and they called me a couple of times. We mainly decided not to go to that area because it's in a very busy area with busy traffic across McDermott road. The community looks nice and they have everything you could possibly need. They have a beauty salon, a library, a computer room, and anything you want really.
