"I went to see the Atria in Carrollton and it was very good. The staff was very friendly and informative. They were probably the key to why we like the facility so much. The staff is pretty important to us. The assisted living facility is adequate, I would say. It's as pretty and nice as it gets. The rooms are a little small, but we thought the place was very clean. It was a great location for us too."

"They had a lot of walking trails, and they're thinking about putting in a dog park. Our visit was excellent. I saw one of the apartments, had lunch, and saw activities happening. I would move there in a second if I could afford it. They were playing cards and explained the shuttle bus that will take people to the store."

"I went to Alexis Estates Gracious Retirement Living, and I liked them. Everybody was gracious. Everybody was more than willing to help me make a decision. They were willing to do an unofficial hold and it was basically about two weeks. The room was beautiful. Windows were all down to one side, so there was plenty of light. I could imagine the room without the little den because the den was really small. The rooms were large. Overall, there were many windows in there that when you came in like in the big dining area, it was all bright and sunshiny. There's lots of light. There was no gloomy look to it at all. There was a little library with tables to do puzzles. They had crossword puzzles and puzzles on tables, then all the books and stuff. They had several different gaming rooms. I didn't get to the crafts room at all, but they did crafts and bingo. They had lots of activities outside of the building, more than just shopping trips. When I got there, it was Chuckwagon Week, and then it was John Wayne movies, and they had John Wayne cut-outs. They were having their Octoberfest with pumpkins and all kinds of little stuff. They had sewing, knitting, crocheting, and boardgames. They had a lot of activities outside like trips down to the square. My mother goes in spurts. She likes the quiet and she does needlework, and then on certain days, she was out and about. She has certain days she wants to go shop for her knacks, and while she wouldn't have to go shop for food when she could go get her snacks. If my mother had a problem like she needed help with her socks, there was somebody in independent living that could help her with little things. The staff who toured me was very, very informative, very caring, and very understanding about my time. In the limited amount of time I had, they were more than willing to accommodate me. If I needed to come back and do another rush visit. All I have to do was give them a call and they make certain that there would be someone who could help me when I got there. I like it a lot. They had court areas. They told me about their gardening area where some of the people could do gardening. They could do vegetable gardening and they could do flower gardening. So that was another plus for me. "

"The Chateau was very nice, but the rooms were kinda small. After I went there, I realized that's not a place I want to go yet. There were things that I wanted like an attached garage (which they did not have) and a patio (which they did not have for the independent living). I guess I didn't feel I was ready for The Chateau. They had activities, a gym, swimming, bingo, and painting. They had a big movie room, and they show movies periodically. They had card games. The staff was wonderful. The lady that gave us the tour was just the nicest, most pleasant, very informed, and very kind. Everything looked good. The other thing that I was amazed at was it was so big. I was thinking that I'll get lost here. She said if you leave your place and you keep walking, you'll end up back at your place because it's a square."

"My father was at Waterford at Plano for over two years when it was time to step up his care from independent living to a more assisted living. The team at Waterford were so helpful and worked with us to make the transition for my dad as easy as possible. I have and would again recommend Waterford to anyone looking for community for their loved one."

"We liked Parkview in Allen, but that's just too far away from our house, which is the only downfall. Everybody was really nice, even the other residents stopped just to talk to us. The big thing Mom saw about that place was that the facility was real nice. We noticed that a lot of the the residents were couples, it's more of a younger community as far as the elderly are concerned, where my mother's in her mid-80's. The rooms were really nice, you could tell it was a newer facility. We had a meal there, and the dining area was really nice. The food just wasn't to my taste. I've got a picky palate, I guess. They have a lot of things going on anywhere, from a place you can work out, to a pool, to playing video games, to working puzzles. One of the things she likes is they had a real nice area in the middle of that community, that had walking trails, and she really liked that."

"Atria Canyon Creek was excellent. The facility was well managed. When we left, they gave me and my 2 daughters gift bags from the restaurant. They showed me a one-bedroom apartment. It had a fully functioning kitchen. It was very well run. "

"I went to Emerson at Rosemeade Park. It was a very nice place, and the people were all very nice. The main thing was when we were talking, and they found I had an open wound. I am missing a leg, and I am wheelchair bound right now. It was more that I had an open wound, and I was under wound care. That was their biggest thing, but the facility was nice. Everybody that worked there was very nice. It seemed to be kept very well, but they just couldn't handle my situation. I was looking at having some help for getting transportation to and from doctor's appointments, getting around, and doing things like that. I wanted to have home health available, medications, and also meal service. It was all available. I walked around the room and looked at it. The rooms are nice. They would have accommodated me with the wheelchair, and there were bars on the walls and things like that for handicapped. There are multiple floors, and I'm looking for rooms on the floor. The rooms were big enough, and they were big for what I needed myself. The social programs seem to be great at getting people to gather and having things available in their own property. There were grounds behind it and around it, and they seemed to be well decorated. The staff was a really nice lady, and any questions I had she was able to answer. She was very knowledgeable and very welcoming."

"Gracious Care Home - Allen was nice. The staff who assisted me with the tour was nice. It was like living at home because it was an actual house. It's just a single home in a neighborhood. It's not a normal facility like the other places. It was very small, so there would be lots of one-on-one attention. I think they said they only take 3 residents at a time. They only had one lady there at the time. They did home-cooked meals but they didn't have a meal plan or anything like that."

"Briarview was lovely and very nice. They are full right now. They have duplexes, and they're a little bit separate from the assisted living facility. They have a regular kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms. They offer activities. You can eat up there in the assisted living part or just in your own kitchen. Everybody that we met was nice. The facility was well-kept."

"Lakeview at Josey Ranch was a wonderful place. Location wise, it's close to shopping strips. However, it was not an assisted living facility. My father has Parkinson's, so he really need more than what they could offer. Also because it was a very large facility, my parents didn't want to be in that place. They were afraid that people wouldn't even know their names. As a whole, I would recommend this place but not for assisted living. It was just a retirement community. "

"The food at Lewisville Estates is home-cooked, very adequate, and had small portions that would be appropriate for the seniors. The rooms were very acceptable, and they were to my mother's expectations. Every time a new resident moves in, they repaint the rooms and put in new carpets; I think it was fine. They can improve on the way they check on someone who didn't come to a meal. If they had fallen, there is a wall string that they can pull, but if they aren't close to that, I don't see how they can get immediate attention. They do check and see if they’ve left their room, but there's no way to check on them immediately. "

"My dad moved into The El Dorado. Everything is very well kept. He was able to move into a freshly painted room, and they had just redone the floors and everything. But I think the biggest thing so far has been the people, the concierge, and the director. Everyone we have encountered has been wonderful there. They're bending over backwards to help us, even going as far as to help us recommend different companies we could work with to assist us with the VA benefits. So, they've been great. The whole community is really nice. They have 24-hour care if needed. He has a monitor that he can click, and there's somebody on hand 24 hours. They serve three meals a day and snacks. They have scheduled activities every day. He's already gone to a casino with the group. They go to the grocery store a couple of times a week. They take people to their doctor's visits. They even have somebody come in and clean once a week. So, he's loving everything about it. I have not tried the food, but my niece and nephew did. My dad has said that everything's really good. It's a nice variety. He says they give you a salad every day with your lunch. And they usually have a couple of different choices. I think he may have skipped one meal there. He has a refrigerator in his apartment as well. Everything so far is so good. He enjoyed it. The food has been good. It's an older building. I'm sure there are some repairs that they could do, but they keep it very well maintained and clean."

"Everything at The Wellington at Arapaho was excellent. The residents all seemed happy. The staff was nice and courteous. The tour was excellent. I saw the people eating, and the food smelled great. They had an area for arts and crafts and puzzles, and a little fitness room where they could do PT."
