The Best Independent Living Communities in Denton County, TX

"I went to Emerson at Rosemeade Park yesterday. The staff was very friendly. I got to see all the open common areas, we went and looked at one of the apartments, and they're actually pretty spacious. They've got a lot of activities that they scheduled. They served three meals a day, so that's pretty good. The one downside that I can see for my parents is that there's not a pool onsite. That was something that they were really hoping for. The staff member was great. She was very, very knowledgeablem, everybody she walked past, she knew them, and everybody was friendly and said hi all the way through. And so it was good. They have a small refrigerator/freezer, apartment size, and they've got a microwave and a sink. I asked, and you're allowed to bring a hot plate or something like that, a coffee maker if you want one, but they don't have full kitchens."

"We've moved into Parkview. The staff and the other residents are just super. They were a lot of help. We try to meet as many new people as possible everytime we go to eat in the dining room. The food is delicious. Our son and daughter-in-law like to come up and join us every chance that they get. The apartments are very nice. We have over 1100 square feet with two bedrooms and a very nice kitchen. We have our own washer and dryer in the unit and a small little porch outside. We've been here for three weeks. There are lots of things going on. It's like a cruise. They have all kinds of entertainment, happy hour on Friday, movies, bible study, water aerobics, exercise, card games, dominos, a very nice library, a beauty salon and barber shop in the place. "

"My mother is here. They take good care of her. The staff is very friendly. It is a Christian-based community. They have all been extremely helpful and kind. Their food is good too."

"Lakeview at Josey Ranch is a very nice place. We like it a lot. The staff is fabulous, and food is is outstanding. They also have all the great activities. The apartment we looked at was 1-bedroom, which was very nicely appointed. It had a full kitchen, which was very nice too. Lakeview at Josey Ranch is independent living. You can get outside services to come in and they'll help you do that. However, we thought my sister needed another step-up in care. Otherwise, she probably would have gone to this place."

"The lady at Briarview was very nice and all my questions were answered. She even had her help services person get in touch with me about my other questions, so it has been thorough. The place was new and didn't have many clients yet, which is a good and bad thing. The rooms are apartment-type. "

"I was driving and I spotted The Remington at Valley Ranch. I went inside for a visit. The staff who assisted me was really friendly. The place was pretty nice. I had no idea if they had activities but I saw there was what looked like a tennis court. I was not able to check the rooms. I saw the residents and they were a little older than me. They seemed friendly and talked to each other. My visit was really short. If someone asked me about this place, I would recommend it. "

"My mom moved into The Conservatory at Plano. She moved in this July. Everything is wonderful so far. Their food is really good. What I like most is the staff and the facility. Everything about it is very nice. I especially appreciate the helpfulness of their staff. "

"Atria Grapevine was very nice and clean. I think they're excellent. However, it's a lot more expensive. Nevertheless, the rooms there seemed nice. Unlike the other facility, they did seem to have more help and more activities. They even have crafts room for their residents. My mom and I went for a lunch and then a tour and the food was really good. The chef came out and introduced himself, which was nice. "

"The apartments are a nice size, and one can chose according to your needs. The food service is really great, with choices and options. The residents, as well as the staff, are outgoing and friendly. New people are encouraged to join in the various activities. The "Always Welcome" sign is out for everyone. Lisa and her Engage Life staff are great about providing activities that are interesting, fun, and requested,"

"I visited Pioneer Ridge. It was one of my top two. I would highly recommend it. When I visited it, there were people playing games, reading in the library, and working on the computer. It was beautiful, well-kept, and managed. "

"It had all three levels of care, but I visited the independent living. They told me that it was only built five years ago. It was good, but the rooms were probably average. I saw the dining area. They had three meals a day and there was a snack area where you could pick up snacks any time of the day. For the size of the facility, the dining area seemed to be small, but they told me that if you would go for independent living, you can eat in the assisted living dining room as well. I met one staff member, and she was friendly. She knew what she was talking about. It looked like an apartment building. It's four stories. It seemed to be clean."

"I went to Alexis Estates Gracious Retirement Living, and I liked them. Everybody was gracious. Everybody was more than willing to help me make a decision. They were willing to do an unofficial hold and it was basically about two weeks. The room was beautiful. Windows were all down to one side, so there was plenty of light. I could imagine the room without the little den because the den was really small. The rooms were large. Overall, there were many windows in there that when you came in like in the big dining area, it was all bright and sunshiny. There's lots of light. There was no gloomy look to it at all. There was a little library with tables to do puzzles. They had crossword puzzles and puzzles on tables, then all the books and stuff. They had several different gaming rooms. I didn't get to the crafts room at all, but they did crafts and bingo. They had lots of activities outside of the building, more than just shopping trips. When I got there, it was Chuckwagon Week, and then it was John Wayne movies, and they had John Wayne cut-outs. They were having their Octoberfest with pumpkins and all kinds of little stuff. They had sewing, knitting, crocheting, and boardgames. They had a lot of activities outside like trips down to the square. My mother goes in spurts. She likes the quiet and she does needlework, and then on certain days, she was out and about. She has certain days she wants to go shop for her knacks, and while she wouldn't have to go shop for food when she could go get her snacks. If my mother had a problem like she needed help with her socks, there was somebody in independent living that could help her with little things. The staff who toured me was very, very informative, very caring, and very understanding about my time. In the limited amount of time I had, they were more than willing to accommodate me. If I needed to come back and do another rush visit. All I have to do was give them a call and they make certain that there would be someone who could help me when I got there. I like it a lot. They had court areas. They told me about their gardening area where some of the people could do gardening. They could do vegetable gardening and they could do flower gardening. So that was another plus for me. "

"I thought the independent living community of The Reserve at North Dallas was nice, if you like the idea of living in a high-end hotel. It's like a 4-star hotel. Some people wouldn't like that, but I thought it was good. The staff members who assisted us were really good. I remember looking at the place and thinking that it was much nicer than the other place we visited, and that the prices were better. We had a meal there, too, but the food wasn't anything special. For its location, this place is probably as good as you were going to get, price-wise, in Dallas."

"Everything about Parc Place Retirement Community was excellent. It is near the family and they have activities like sports and games. They also have a movie theater, a chef, and a dog park. It's nice. We're going to get a double garage with two bedrooms. The food was great. Cleanliness was wonderful."
