"This community is like a resort and I'm very impressed with the employees and staff here. It's not a typical assisted living and not a "nursing home". There are so many activities and events here to keep everyone busy and active. I was especially impressed with the wellness program where they have exercise classes of all kinds and I was told they perform fitness assessments every 6 months. The residents seem very happy to live here. "

"Walnut Place is right across from Presbyterian Hospital which makes it convenient. They did have levels of care there from assisted living to Alzheimer's care. It was a huge place. This particular facility I would rate as five-star only because they're so professional. However, I wouldn't choose this place for myself because they had more of an institutional feeling rather than a home-like feeling. I was looking for more of an independent living place where I had no need of help except to have somebody help me prepare meals or take me to trips or whatever. This place is not the one where I would go. However, if I have a family member that has Alzheimer's or dementia or some serious situations like that, then I would certainly recommend Walnut Place. This place is for someone needing medical attention even though it is just assisted living. They did have nursing staff there. I also tried eating there and the food was good. I would recommend this place particularly for people with medical issues. "

"Excellent team of care providers! My 91-year-old dad spent almost a month at The Meadows for mobility support after a fall at home. He received great therapy while there and the team of care providers were professional and compassionate. The Administrator, in particular, went above and beyond and gave us so much support. We are grateful for the care he received. The staff and experience was positive and we appreciate that. "

"My Mother lives in his facility and has for several years. She is 95 and still has all her wits about her, although she is physically frail. No one really enjoys assisted living; everyone there wishes they were strong and able enough to live at home, so there is a certain tendency to criticize the facility when what really makes you upset is the situation. My observation is this: if you have to live in assisted living and if you must live within Medicaid constraints, this is a very good place to be. The staff is attentive, there are daily activities and the food is edible. Yes everyone has roommates, and yes, some of the residents are a challenge to live with. But, overall, the place as a feel of kindness that I find very reassuring. "

"My mom has been in assisted living in Autumn Leaves for a year, and then she moved to full nursing care in the same facility. The assisted living is very friendly and very warm. The staff is caring and friendly. The residents are also very friendly. There are all kinds of activities. There are plenty of social events and games. They are always class programs going on. The food is good, but it is not home cooking by any means. The dining area is very pleasant. It has a number of small tables. There is a gym, a very nice outdoor park area or picnic area, and a number of patio areas. The landscaping is quite nice. It was a private girl school before, so it had that ambiance of a private school. "

"I toured the Villages of Lake Highlands. It's very nice. It's very clean and sterile. The staff was very courteous. The food was great. The dining room area, I have no complaints about it. It sounds like you're going to a restaurant. The views of the property everywhere you look, you've got something to see, and it's just wonderful. They have crafts, arts, bingo, and puzzles they can use. They even have entertainment. People come in there and sing for them at times. They've got all types of activities for the holiday coming up. The residents are welcome to them. They have the help they need, at just about any type of level. I found that to be very nice."

"I toured Presbyterian Village North. The community was nice. They had a lot of activities for the people, which I liked seeing. The person giving the tour was not a medical professional. It was just someone who was hired to give tours. She tried to be helpful, but she didn't know that much. However, the food was pretty good, and the rooms were nice. I only saw the single rooms. I didn't see any apartments because it was assisted living. I just saw rooms."

"Overall, my experience with Lakewest was a good one. The facility is relatively new, as it just opened last summer (2011). Lakewest is beautifully decorated, not at all like a traditional nursing home. One very comforting safety feature they have is that the interior doors are code activated so no one can enter or exit without the staff knowing. When you walk in, you are immediately struck by how much care went into making the facility feel like an upscale resort or hotel - even the patients' rooms had dark wood floors and furniture. The facility has quite a few common areas set up like living rooms for families to congregate in and visit with their loved ones. The staff is very attentive and just about everyone treated my grandmother like a family member instead of resident. I feel quite confident that my grandmother received the best care at Lakewest. "

"My grandmother spent 8 weeks at this facility. Most of the staff were friendly and kind. I understand they have a tough job, but being unprofessional is inexcusable in my opinion. Parking is a joke at this place. There is a lot, but it is for employees only. Your only other option is the meters, make sure and bring quarters.Safety was a big issue at the facility. My grandmother's things were constantly stolen. We filled out a form, and nothing happened, no resolution whatsoever. The stuff that was stolen was minor, but I think it's terrible that when my grandmother is at her most vulnerable her few possessions disappear. No one seemed to care. The rooms are small and need to be remodeled. The bathroom was tiny, and barely allowed for wheelchair access. Forget trying to fit 2 people in there, it's not happening. Most elderly need assistance in the restroom, apparently not at this place, they are on their own !I would highly recommend taking your money and burning it before spending a penny at this horrible facility. "Although the place seems to have gone downhill a bit recently, the Forest Lane Healthcare Center is still a very nice place. It is a nursing home - and the typical stereotype follows it. However, the staff do pay attention to the clients and do whatever is asked of them and whatever they can to help - which means a lot more than any other factor in caregiving ever would. That alone is a good enough reason to recommend this facility to anyone in the Dallas area who is looking for care for their elderly family member who is in need of a full-time nursing home - and does not have insurance other than Medicaid for an assisted-living facility. "We are in the process of possibly getting my mom in Golden Acres. The staff was really nice as well as the admitting lady who I talked to. They are remodeling; they've remodeled a little. Caring.com gave me the name of a company -- I think it was a Brookdale up in Plano -- and they were the ones who told me about Golden Acres. They said that they like it because Golden Acres has a rehabilitation center and they take a lot of their clients there to work on their rehabilitation, and they said that they have always liked that. So that's why she gave me the name of this place in the first place. The rooms are older, but they are big. It is more of a traditional nursing care home, but they have a lot of people on their staff, and they have Biblical verses throughout the facility, which I thought was really nice. It seems really clean; it doesn't smell. They were telling me that the people who run the ward on each floor had been there for a long time; they don't turn people over a lot. The people there really care for their tenants so they work to keep it nice like that and not change it so much. It is an older establishment, but you have to realize that they are taking nothing but government checks, and they don't have all the extra income coming in to make it all fantastic. "

"I toured The Renaissance at Kessler Park. It is a smaller facility. I didn't specifically ask how many beds there were, but it's relatively small and local. It's in a community, between homes and an apartment building, not on busy streets or in business areas. I like that. It's going to be close to people that she knows. All of that was good. We didn't do the meals or menus. The staff seems very friendly and well-knowledgeable. The staff who accommodated us were great. They were friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They can accommodate my mother there. There were other places we went where we didn't feel like she was a good fit. I didn't see a library. They had a game room, a social room, and an activity center. Their rooms are like a bedroom, not like an apartment, and her room will be shared. Private ones are only with private pay. However, my mom is on Medicaid. It's more like a homey setup, though."
