Nestled between two suburban cities just northwest of Phoenix, Peoria is a bedroom community with nearly 191,000 residents, 17.5% of whom are seniors, slightly higher than the national average. Peoria offers easy access to top-notch medical care through Banner Boswell Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital, both sharing the rank of #2 in the state.
Seniors in Peoria who require nursing home care receive 24-hour supervision and access to on-call medical staff. Nursing homes provide seniors with the medical attention they need as well as daily opportunities to connect with peers. Seniors who do not need as much medical supervision or care will often choose to live in an assisted living community instead of a nursing home; seniors who can generally care for themselves but still require some monitoring may opt for home health care.
This guide provides an overview of the nursing home options available to seniors who live in Peoria and how much they can expect to pay for nursing home services. It also compares the cost of nursing home care to that of other types of care and reveals financial assistance options for those who need it.

When we attempted to bring it to management’s they were impossible to get ahold of. Management is horrible unresponsive and doesn’t take concerns seriously. They don’t follow up with families and are unprofessional. We had a horrible experience at the faculty. We ended moving my father-in-law to a different facility.

He has had 1 speech therapy session which is one of the biggest issues. Other then that it has been one therapy session a day for barely 30 minutes and no weekends at all. The food in there i wouldnt feed to my dogs and not enough for a child. Only allowed 2 showers a week!!! The rooms are only the size for a single person both patients are against walls. Hopefully neither need emergency help because they would be twice as long rendering aide. This place is unsafe and very unheathly. Please do not take anyone you love to this place. Its not really the people who work there its the management that allows this to happen, totally disgusting!!!!!

The rooms are a shared room and very small. With two patients in the room, it is almost impossible to have any family or visitors. Most of the staff was very nice & polite, but the facility was obviously very short staffed. Each nurse had 5+ patients per shift. The average wait time after activating a call button was 10 minutes. It sometimes took 30 minutes for staff person to come to the room. The facility does not have any amenities. The website shows a dining room full of furniture, a piano and activities. In reality, the room is completely baren with a couple of folding chairs. The website also shows an outdoor patio – which in reality is a storage area for extra and broken equipment, beds, etc. I would suggest having an advocate for any patient in the facility. Otherwise, the care would be severely lacking.

Even though my first thoughts were OMG this place is so small and care givers are not giving enough attention to everyone, I found out that the fact that they sit AMONG theyr patients and intervene as a friend that it seems to be working. My Mom has been in 6 facilities and 3 hospitals and hospice care 2 times in 2 1/2 years. I was Financially drained and stressd to no end. This facility has taken my Mom in and set boundries that my pitiful Mother has to follow or she is not allowed to have her 4 cigarette breaks a day. You will not find fancy chandeliers here or alot of freedom but my Mother is clean and content and fed so I honestly cannot say enough good things about the place. I would put these care givers in the SAINT division, they deal with the hard to handle patients that are still together enough to socialize and hold conversations and believe that they are getting better and have a little independence left, I wish these Saints were paid better salaries since they all work so hard and care that the residents have feelings and families, happy memories ect Fondly Lacy Breeding

The bed, due to my injury, was too hard and I slept in the recliner most of my stay. The staff, for the most part, were so attentive and caring. I had a few very unpleasant experiences with some staff but the Administration was open to hearing my thoughts and needs. Thank you, Wyatt. The Therapy was top-tier! They got me moving when I did not want to! Thank God! That helped my healing process tremendously. The food was good, but I was given food at times that was against my diet. Please be cautious of this. But I do highly recommend this facility for being an outstanding place to heal!

My mom spent a month at Christian Care Health Center. But they changed settings where patients needed to be more independent, so we had to transfer her to another facility. The building was not brand spanking new and it was just a small building, but it was also very quaint. I had to put a couple of those lavender tablets in the toilet tank because the bathroom seemed to smell even though it was clean because the plumbing was older. And I had put in a diffuser in her room. Her room could have used a little bit of a paint job, too. But overall, it was comfortable. They had a courtyard centerpiece floor plan and the dining room was facing the courtyard. So it’s nice because when the residents were eating, they could see the outdoors. There was a lot of natural sunlight coming in.
The thing that made up the difference was that the CNAs were good. The nurses were outstanding. The director of nursing was always available and always willing to offer any help or resolution. Her door was always open. She was super, super nice, and just ready to jump in there and listen to any concerns we had. We didn’t have many, but whenever I would bring anything to her attention, she was just all ears, all eyes, and all attention. Their activities director, Tammy, was superb. She was so kind, so compassionate, and so engaging with the residents. She was just one of a kind. Their housekeeping department was good. And when you walked in the door, the lady who greeted you was outstanding. It was really hard to leave that facility because the staff was so good.

If you want your loved ones to be well cared for, I would not recommend bringing them here. We had a family member in their skilled nursing facility for 2 weeks, and over that time they messed up medications three different times. Twice they failed to give our family member one necessary medication (we found it just placed on the bedside table), and they gave them the wrong IV medication over a 12 hour span. When we brought it to the attention of the director of nursing, all that came back at us was excuses. We were told that there was outside staff working in the facility and that they "did not know their background within the healthcare field." It floored us, particularly because no responsibility was taken for these outside staff from the director of nursing. I do not work in the healthcare field and yet I still double check any medication I give to myself or others (even ibuprofen). When we brought up the failure to give our family member a medication, the director, again, placed the blame on anybody but the staff. Rather, she explained that our family member spit the medication out (when one of the nurses told us that they crush up the medications for them to take). As a family, we never felt confident in the care our loved one was receiving and would often go home anxious that their needs would go unnoticed and result in more harm. This experience was more traumatic than the lengthy hospital stay for our family member, and all the staff saw them as was a burden.
I understand the fact of being understaffed, but as healthcare professionals, patients lives are in your hands. There needed to be more care and more attention to detail to ensure that these elderly are cared for. Our loved one has lost their independence, and this facility made it nothing but more traumatic for their transition.

Financial Assistance for Nursing Home Care in Peoria, AZ
Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
- Medicare: Medicare will typically cover all skilled nursing costs for the first 20 days of one’s stay in a nursing home and a portion of the costs until day 100. After 100 days in a skilled nursing facility, Medicare will not cover any part of the cost of the stay. While this is adequate when short-term care is needed, those in need of long-term care will need to either pay out-of-pocket or use another source of financial assistance.
- Medicaid: Medicaid covers most of the costs of living in a skilled nursing facility for those who qualify. Care, room, and board are covered with no time limit, but residents may be charged for extras like specially prepared food or cosmetic services. Medicaid eligibility standards are strict and complex, so not all seniors are eligible for Medicaid benefits.
- Veterans Benefits: Veterans receiving a VA pension may also be eligible for the Aid and Attendance benefit administered by the VA. Aid and Attendance is a monthly allowance that beneficiaries may use to pay for their long-term care, including skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
