"We visited Asbury Methodist Village as we looked for a facility. The apartments were a little cramped and it was not spacious enough for me and my wife. They had various activities available. And the staff were very amenable and accommodating. "

It's a family-oriented place, and you feel that you are not in an institution. The rooms are quite large. They are rated highly, and so I think they are pretty good. "

"Knollwood Military Retirement Residence has a lot to offer. It has different levels of care from independent, assisted, to skilled nursing, and another separate Alzheimer's unit. Everyone seemed very friendly and cooperative. I looked at both the independent and Alzheimer's apartments, and they were very nicely spacious. It's very clean and all the patients there seem to be involved in activity at the time of my visit. The food looked healthy and they serve three meals. You can either go down to the restaurant with a little snack bar, or you have the option to cook in your own place. "

"I was fortunate to move into Ingleside at Rock Creek in mid-March just as the city was closing down. It was impressive to see how quickly administration moved to protect our health while at the same time making sure our needs are met. While both residents and staff are respectful of masking and distance protocols, we are free to roam the buildings and the outdoors. Many meetings and activities are being "Zoomed." The staff is friendly, helpful and cheerful. This is a great place to be right now and I am looking forward to being able in the future to fully enjoy the many amenities here."

"Riderwood was very nice and very clean, but it was too far away from my circle of friends. The staff was very pleasant. The place was pleasantly designed with quite a bit of land around it. It has trails and gyms. The food was very good too. They had very nice views, and the rooms were very nice."

"The Armed Forces Retirement Home was nothing like I thought it would be. I was sure that when I arrived, it would just be a bunch of veterans sitting around on old furniture, telling old war stories about days gone by, and the staff would have a lackluster attitude toward the residents. Nothing could be further from the truth! The AFRH was incredible! The staff truly cared about the residents, and they did a great job of interacting with the residents by treating them as an every day member of society, not as someone who was going to die soon. When it came time to hand out medications, it was done discreetly, and there was no "line to the pharmacy", as the nurses who would dispense the medication came to the individual resident and talked with them before giving the medicine. During dinner, the residents were allowed to walk up and select the food they wanted and carry it themselves, if able, instead of sitting at a table and just having it dropped in front of them. The residents appeared very happy to be living there, and their interaction with the staff showed that the staff was extremely happy to have the chance to serve these veterans as well. The rooms for the veterans were modest, but they had plenty of room to store their own things and make the rooms their own. This was done by providing shelves for the vets to have photos on, or memorabilia from their days in their respective services. The only downside to the home was that they had closed down one of the buildings because they were going through a remodeling process. This created some noise during the day, and a little bit of a mess outside due to the construction, but overall this was a minor hiccup to an overall great facility! The knowledge that they would be building a brand new building on the space vacated by the old building made me really happy to know that our veterans were going to get an even better facility than they already have. "

"Vinson Hall Retirement Community is a very nice facility. People seem to be enjoying the food. They have confident nurses. My wife, and I were in an apartment and she had fallen down several times so she had to move to the nursing facility. My apartment has one-bedroom, two-bathrooms, living-,room, and a very small kitchen. It is very comfortable. My wife in the nursing facility has a smaller, but decent-sized room. We have several dining rooms. We have a little bar. We do trips to theatres. People come in here to play music or some speak about educational stuff. "

"Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads was definitely in a nice location as far as the availability of grocery stores and some stores and being able to walk around. Their facilities looked very well maintained. Everybody seemed to be very pleasant and enthusiastic. We saw a couple of the apartments, and they looked very good. They refurbish each apartment before you get it. So when you go in, you've got new carpeting and new appliances. Every 12 years, regardless of whether you're still in it, they redo it. The facilities looked good. The swimming pool was big. The food was good. We had lunch there. I wouldn't say it's a five-star restaurant, but it was adequate."

"I visited this assisted living facility several times to interview some of the residents for a study about seniors. I was a graduate student at the time and interviewed seniors throughout Northern Virginia, Washington DC and Maryland. Some Goodwin House residents had elected to participate in the study. Goodwin House was one of my favorite places to visit because there was a great sense of community between the residents there. Most of them lived independently, having their own apartments with the convenience of meal preparation, maid and medical services. The apartments were very nice, especially on the top floors. Many of the residents I interacted with had packed schedules since Goodwin House offers several activities. A few of the residents chose not to be so social and they had the option to spend more time in their own apartments. The facility is close to several stores and the surrounding area felt pretty safe. There was one floor that exclusively housed nursing home residents. This floor didn't feel like a typical nursing home to me because it was connected to such a large assisted living facilty and nursing home residents had access to several of the resources assisted living facilty community residents did. If I had to choose an assisted living facility for a loved one or myself I would choose Goodwin House. "

"I moved to Vantage Point from NY to be near my son and his family. I toured several independent living facilities in the area and chose Vantage for several reasons. Some are: Friendly, helpful staff Large airy apartments The highrise doesn't require me to go outside for activities or meals. My pets were welcomed I was able to chose my apartment updates The residents are diverse and welcoming. I have been her almost 2 years and have found that Vantage is well-run, has excellent activities and I am glad I am here."

"Ashby Ponds is a brand-new place and it is very large. Everything is first class, but it's also expensive. The deposit is huge. There were so many people there. They also accept pets. There were lots of rooms, and there were apartment-type accommodations. The staff is good, and they even have my name on a parking place. The food is also very good, but you only get one meal per day, and you take care of the rest. Everything you want to do, they have it."
