"I looked at Knollwood Life Plan Community. They used to be strictly military, now if you were either in government or the military, that's the only time you could go into this place. It's in a very nice location because it looks right at Rock Creek Park. However, it was very quiet because it was a Saturday when we toured. They had very spacious living quarters there, their rooms were very big. Whoever I would meet, they were very friendly and very nice. The only thing they don't have, which is not going to be the biggest factor if I move in, is they only have outdoor parking so they don't have a garage there. Then again, they're mostly senior residents, and a lot of them don't have cars anymore, so I don't think that's the biggest issue at all. What's interesting is they don't have a meal plan. They have three meals a day but you choose when you want to go, so they're very open about that, and that is a good factor. The only thing is, I thought the food was mediocre, it wasn't great though it wasn't bad. You go to them and order what you want but they bring it to your table. All the levels of care are in the same building, just on different floors. Overall, the place was very nice, it's not fancy at all but they have very nice living quarters."

"Brooke Grove was recommended by someone who had her husband there. I am very satisfied with this facility for my husband, and I certainly don’t want to take any chances. It's a family-oriented place, and you feel that you are not in an institution. The rooms are quite large. They are rated highly, and so I think they are pretty good. "

"I visited Ingleside at Rock Creek several times because I have a friend who lives there. It is a little facility at the District of Columbia. It is a first class facility. They have all levels of care. It is physically attractive with lots of things to do. If I had a choice I would have chosen this facility. "

"We liked Ingleside at King Farm, but it is quite a bit expensive. It is more modern and sophisticated. They have a gym and a library. The menu appeared to be OK. The staff is quite impressive and the people we talked to were quite good."

"I had a friend staying at National Lutheran Home for some months. It was clean. They had a lot of programs for the people and they have a chaplain there for them. They did a good job in terms of rehab but my friend really didn't need rehab that much. He had Alzheimer's and needed somebody around the clock with him. Their food was very good, with wide variety, well cooked and nutritious. "

"I'm doing the paperwork to move my mom into Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg. I have looked at the facility in person, and it was great. The facility is very nice and the grounds are nice. It's bigger than I expected it to be; it's very spacious. The staffing level seems to be great, which is important. I saw both assisted and independent living."

"Vinzon Hall was suggested by my daughter. I liked the atmosphere. I went back to see it probably 5 or 6 times and talked to the marketing people. They just built a new expansion, and I found an apartment there, a brand new one that I liked. It was a two-bedroom apartment. I planned to move there in April. I ate there, and I thought the food was good. The staff was very accommodating in showing me around. They gave me a lot of time. I chose the place because I am a military wife of a retired officer, and that was who they mainly had there, and I wanted to be with people like me. The ground was very nice. It was well landscaped, had nice full grown trees, and it was a very pleasant environment. I would recommend them, but it was restricted to retired military and state department people, so it was not available to everyone. "

"My mom is at a continuing care community called Collington. It's a Kendal community in Mitchellville, Maryland and they're excellent. She's currently in independent living. It's a well-run community with caring and competent staff. They offer all sorts of activities. They have a gym, a salon, a pool, an auditorium, and a music room. She's in a very spacious 1-bedroom with a den. It's in good proximity to Washington DC."

"We saw Residences at Vantage Point. The independent living was great. The assisted living felt like a hospital. If mom needed to go into assisted living, I would prefer she went someplace else. They seemed like hospital rooms, like people who were really invalid, and that's not my mom. They have a library where you can check out books, all the typical activities, movies, book groups, selling groups, dancing, and physical activity, and they support a lot of the arts. They have groups that go into Baltimore that will go to the Symphony and things like that."

"Goodwin House seemed like a very well-organized community. People were very friendly, and it seemed a bit closer knit; it's one of the reasons why I like it. It also has a different financial model as well. The staff were very nice and very knowledgeable. It has a very friendly environment, and everybody knew each other. They have lots of activities on site. They also have education for the residents to take classes. They have offered different workshops as well. They have different kinds of arts and craft type rooms. They have a gym and a pool. It was definitely very appealing. "

"I went to visit a friend in Goodwin House Alexandria. It was excellent and it's probably expensive. The room was fine, it was like it was luxurious, and it was very nice. It was excellent, it was very clean, beautifully maintained; it was a beautiful place. It was a huge complex, and I just got in and got out. I saw my friend in the nursing section, I walked through other parts of it, and it was beautiful."

"I visited Falcons Landing once, and it was a very clean community. Everybody was really friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful, but it's hilly and difficult for walking. They have a gym, a swimming pool, and different things are scheduled on a daily basis. They have apartments, separate cottages, 1-bedrooms, and 2-bedrooms. They were very well maintained."
