"My wife and I moved into Ingleside at Rock Creek (IRC) five years ago, at a relatively young age--Freshpeople again.. We have absolutely no regrets. We have made 100+ new friends, potentially engage in more activities than we can schedule, and thoroughly enjoy the grounds and neighborhood. Even the ongoing construction with its nuisances is a source of entertainment. What we like most is that IRC is community with all that term involves in terms of celebrations along with a few controversies. The latter are generally resolved via a shared commitment to community. The food is excellent and too plentiful. The staff are amazing; for example, they learn our names from almost the first day. The facilities are improving; we love our Ravine. Value is in the pocketbook of the respondent, but we believe we are receiving value for our contributions."

"Knollwood Military Retirement Residence has a lot to offer. It has different levels of care from independent, assisted, to skilled nursing, and another separate Alzheimer's unit. Everyone seemed very friendly and cooperative. I looked at both the independent and Alzheimer's apartments, and they were very nicely spacious. It's very clean and all the patients there seem to be involved in activity at the time of my visit. The food looked healthy and they serve three meals. You can either go down to the restaurant with a little snack bar, or you have the option to cook in your own place. "

"The Woodlands was a very nice community. That place was beautiful, but not very warm. The people didn't seem very friendly. The people who stayed there did not seem to be walking around. They all seemed to be in their little apartments and not out for community interaction. "

"The Armed Forces Retirement Home was nothing like I thought it would be. I was sure that when I arrived, it would just be a bunch of veterans sitting around on old furniture, telling old war stories about days gone by, and the staff would have a lackluster attitude toward the residents. Nothing could be further from the truth! The AFRH was incredible! The staff truly cared about the residents, and they did a great job of interacting with the residents by treating them as an every day member of society, not as someone who was going to die soon. When it came time to hand out medications, it was done discreetly, and there was no "line to the pharmacy", as the nurses who would dispense the medication came to the individual resident and talked with them before giving the medicine. During dinner, the residents were allowed to walk up and select the food they wanted and carry it themselves, if able, instead of sitting at a table and just having it dropped in front of them. The residents appeared very happy to be living there, and their interaction with the staff showed that the staff was extremely happy to have the chance to serve these veterans as well. The rooms for the veterans were modest, but they had plenty of room to store their own things and make the rooms their own. This was done by providing shelves for the vets to have photos on, or memorabilia from their days in their respective services. The only downside to the home was that they had closed down one of the buildings because they were going through a remodeling process. This created some noise during the day, and a little bit of a mess outside due to the construction, but overall this was a minor hiccup to an overall great facility! The knowledge that they would be building a brand new building on the space vacated by the old building made me really happy to know that our veterans were going to get an even better facility than they already have. "

"I just got my mom settled and so far so good. She is in Kensington Park. It’s a continuing care retirement community; they have assisted, independent and memory care. My mom actually chose it. Actually I identified three or four communities then took my mom around to see which one she felt comfortable with and just her reaction to it. It’s relatively a small community which is what she was looking for and it just had the atmosphere and environment that she felt she would be comfortable with. They’ve been extremely helpful and welcoming. I can’t think of anything they haven’t done so far to help me and my mom get situated. It’s a big adjustment; they’ve just been available whenever I needed them and they check on her all the time. I’m sure it’s a pretty standard protocol for new people moving in the community but they’ve really been wonderful. She has an apartment and it’s beautiful. The dining room is beautiful too and so far the food has been wonderful. It’s very high quality and good assortment. She’s been very happy with that as well. They have a wide variety of activities. They have yoga, pilates, paintings, lectures, music, bridge and guest come in to do various kinds of activities. "

"Comfort Senior Care Facility was a house where I wanted a facility. The person who gave me the tour was very, very nice. They had both private and shared rooms, and they can accommodate five. It was very, very clean and the colors in all the rooms were very, very warm and bright. They had an activity schedule, unfortunately, they only had one resident at the time. It was like going into someone's house. The staff that I talked to was very, very sweet."

"Most people at Collington Life Care were professional, helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. The grounds were immaculate, the individual buildings were clean, and the floors as well as the uniforms of the staff were always clean. The facilities were more than adequate. The rooms were sufficient with all the things that you would need like wheelchair access and sit down showers. My husband was there last year for six weeks. The staff who was involved with him with the exception of two people were absolutely wonderful. They have a barbershop, salon, art classes, music room, daily activities daily, full-fledged gym, and they even have 7 acre lake available for fishing. They also had excursions that would take them to the grocery store, and they will also transport you to doctor's appointments as well. "

"Riderwood is huge. It has everything. They have exercise classes for the residents, a personal trainer, a chapel, a library, and a game room. They have it all. The tour guide was very friendly. She was very knowledgeable, and I feel she covered everything. The rooms were very impressive. They had a walk-in closet and that was for independent living. It was a nice-sized apartment. They have activities every day. They provide a bus service. The residents can go to the market or go to the movies."

"My sister is at The Village at Rockville - A National Lutheran Community for subacute rehab. We chose it because it's attractive and clean, and they took the insurance. They've been great. The staff has been terrific. The food varies, though some of it is pretty unappetizing. A lot of things were shut for COVID and haven't opened yet. They had a cafe, a salon, and a fitness area. It's extremely clean and well- maintained. Medicare is paying for it. There's a shopping center with restaurants about five minutes away. There's nothing like walking distance."

"Ingleside at King Farm felt very comfortable. The attention that they put to detail in meeting the needs of the residents is very clear. I felt that they strive to make sure that all the needs are taken care of, and the residents are taken care of. The rooms were very nice. When you move in, they'll redo the carpeting, they'll do the flooring, they'll paint, and if the kitchen needs upgrading, they'll do whatever needs to be done in the kitchen. They got everything but the kitchen sink. They have a gym, an indoor pool, and a hair salon. They have arts and crafts. They have a billiard room and a card room. For transportation, there are certain places that they would take you, too, like doctor's appointments."

"My grandfather had a stroke and developed pneumonia as a result of a weakened immune system. From the moment he checked in to Falcon's Landing, the staff was warm, genuine and attentive. We live about a half mile away and were able to visit him almost every day during his stay there. My grandfather passed away at this facility and again, the staff was caring and seemed genuinely sad that he had passed. I believe he received excellent care during his time and every effort was made to ensure that he was as comfortable as could be, given his circumstances, during his final days. "

"One place that we visited, which is very nice, is called Ashby Ponds in Ashburn. It's a whole city of buildings, it's huge, and all the buildings are connected. It was very nice, the people there were very friendly, and it was very clean. The living spaces were a little more accommodating and had a little more room. They even had a separate place for the washing machine and the dryer, which was commendable. We also tried the food, and it was very good. We toured their independent living, but they have extended facilities if you need assisted living later on."

"My mother-in-law is in Asbury Methodist Village for three weeks now. It is a nice place and near where my sister-in-law lives. The facility is really clean and nice. The staff seems to be really nice. She likes them and everyone seems to be very helpful. She likes the residence and has made a lot of friends. I haven't eaten there but my mother-in-law likes the food. She is staying in an apartment. I know they have lots of activities but she has not been there long enough to be involved in the activities. She's very satisfied and happy with the community. I will recommend them to others. "

"My friend is in a rehab facility called Brooke Grove and has been there for the last couple of weeks. The family is satisfied with the way things are going. My friend should be there for another week or 10 days before she is anywhere near well. It’s well staffed, and I think they are doing a good job. They can handle any level of rehabilitation. "
