Moorestown is a township in Burlington County that’s approximately 25 minutes east of Philadelphia. Adults aged 65 and older make up around 16% of its 21,355 residents. They’re drawn by its low health care costs and crime rates, in addition to affordable transportation and a wide choice of medical facilities. The landscape is also an attraction, particularly the 34-acre Boundary Creek Natural Resource Area, which offers great opportunities to take in the region’s birds and wildlife while also enjoying picnics with loved ones and relaxing strolls on the boardwalks.
Moorestown’s assisted living facilities provide a solution to independent-minded seniors who find everyday tasks, such as housekeeping, more challenging now. The facilities offer pleasant accommodation with the opportunity to make friends with neighbors, in addition to staff who clean rooms, cook meals and provide basic medical support, such as medication management. A typical assisted living placement in Moorestown costs $5,550 per month, a monthly saving of $1,100 when compared to the state average.
The rest of this guide looks at senior living costs in the area, provides a short list of resources for Moorestown’s older residents and discusses the benefits and drawbacks of living in the area.

I was seriously considering them, but my father passed away, so it wasn’t necessary to continue my search. It had nice grounds, and they seemed to take care the different levels of people. We got a tour of many of their rooms, and we had a very good experience and a good feel about it. I think they had a lot of programs for the people, and I think they had a lot of things to offer. I thought they were one of the better ones we had seen.

I toured Brandywine Living at Moorestown Estates for my mom. It was very nice. The people were very informative. I thought the accommodations for the assisted living were very neat, clean, and spacious. The dining area looked nice, and they had an upstairs area like a pub, believe it or not, and a pool table. They have a variety of things, and it all seemed very clean. It didn’t feel like you were in a nursing home or an assisted living home. It had a very nice lobby, and the residents seemed happy when I saw them.
There was a nice variety of food. They had a menu where you have choices every day, and then each day had a specials menu.
I only spoke to one person, but she was very informative. She’s the one who gave me a tour. As I was walking through, the nursing aides and all the staff looked like they were very attentive to the patients.

So that was the best that I liked, and the staff couldn’t have been nicer. However, the place looked a little bit rundown and shabby, and there were a lot of pinch points. It wasn’t as wheelchair accessible as I needed for my dad. He could get in, but there were too many sharp corners to get around the apartment.

I could only come after work and they were very nice to accommodate me. When they brought us back into the information room, they had pastries ready for us to sample and they were excellent. They were really good. They had decent activities. I was very, very impressed with this place. They look new and well-maintained. I don’t know if it was recently renovated or if it was just moved to begin with, but everything was very well maintained and in good condition.

We went to Spring Hills Cherry Hill. The food there is probably among the best of the managed care facilities. They have a restaurant setting. It was a former motel, so they maintained that environment. The layout was pretty nice. However, for some odd reason, the handicapped ramp from the outside to the front door is not covered. Inside, they had a really nice interior. It was very large, so I think that’s a bit of a challenge for people who are wheelchair bound.
I was really sold with their room design. They did a really good job in giving you three rooms, a bathroom, and a huge walk-in closet space. The bathrooms are a little bit smaller than the other ones are, but still roomy enough to give you a shower, a toilet, and a sink. The way the kitchen, living quarters, and bedroom were designed was very clever with the use of the space. I think that was a really good selling point.
They also said the doctor actually has an office on-site (as well as the nurses), so that’s a positive. The downside is that it is not cheap at all. The memory unit care was a shock to me at how much that was going to cost.

I toured Granville Place for my father, and it was a nice facility. I went through everything and talked to different people, and they even introduced me to some of the people that were there. I like the place.
They have a salon. They also have a courtyard for the people to go to. It was completely enclosed, which was good so nobody can kind of walk off or anything. They have food there, but I wasn’t there during lunchtime. They were done with dinner when I got there. I didn’t get there until after 5:00. They waited for me because I went to the wrong place first. But everybody was pleasant and very helpful. They answered any questions I had.
Everything was freshly painted and looked good. It’s got trees and it looks like a house almost.

Oasis at the Crescent was very warm and very welcoming. Just from the residents, I felt like my mother would be more comfortable in that kind of atmosphere just because there are residents that look like her, whether it’s nationality-wise, or disability-wise. I would say that there is such a great level of warming and comfort there. They have a lot of renovations going on at the moment. So some things I would have liked to see going in, but still a wonderful place. I have nothing bad to say. The person who did my tour was Rose. She was very helpful, very knowledgeable, shared a lot of information with me, and gave me some recommendations on if I wanted to start that process, and what it would look like as far as transferring my mother’s Medicaid from PA to New Jersey. So very helpful. I did get to see they have like an outside room just with the recent weather, recently with the rain, it was a little flooded out. So that was currently being worked on. They have a rehabilitation center. I got to see some of the doctors on staff. We toured the living and dining area where some of the families can come and visit. I gotta visit the rooms. Nice, spacious rooms, but the electronics are not included. We would need to bring the electronics in as well. This is also a facility that I could see my mom sitting at and being very comfortable. They have a laundry service that they do, they have inside stores where you can shop. It makes you feel like you are living in the real world there.

One lady in the room had a TV, so she either had the TV on or the radio. You can’t expect people to tolerate that without complaining. That was not good. My mother had a stroke and was being discharged to rehab. My sister and I toured the facility with an administrator who looked us in the eye and lied to us about policy. We were interested in open door and she assured us it was but it wasn’t. Our mom was walking with assistance when we got there and 6 days later when we got her out of there she could barely stand. Every nurse or CNA that came in the room said they were from an agency and couldn’t answer any questions about anything. They can’t keep staff so they contract out to an agency and you don’t have continuity because of it. More times than not they started every conversation with “by law, we are required or “by law we can’t”. It makes you wonder how many times they have been sued that they feel it necessary to cite the law in every conversation. Most of the people coming in to care for her had no idea why she was there or what her limitations were. She was completely paralyzed on her right side and couldn’t swallow regular liquids. Pills were to be given in applesauce yet daily we had to tell them or they wouldn’t have known because they don’t read the chart before coming into the room. There was never a warm meal and honestly my 3 year old granddaughter eats more at a sitting than they feed their residents. We even had CNAs refuse to help us get her on the commode because of a “bad back” so they couldn’t lift. This place is a nightmare, the Monday to Friday nurse manager spent more time smoking in the courtyard than nursing. Meanwhile the patients are neglected by uncaring and unfeeling staff. The day we transferred mom out the owners were there putting in diffuser machines trying to cover the overwhelming smell of urine that permeates each wing.
