The Best Assisted Living Communities in Philadelphia County, PA

"My father is in Springfield Residence. They're very kind, caring, and always have the patient's best interest at heart. They do a real good job. It's a very nice place to live in, and it's newly renovated. He's in the Memory Care unit, and the dining room he is eating in is not that nice yet, as they're remodeling. He's very active in all of the activities, and he seems to be enjoying himself. What impressed me most is the overall care, and their genuine concern for him. "

"Brittany Manor didn't provide respite care services. Going in there, it was more for people who are mentally challenged. Before I went in, there was a resident already asking me for money while I was sitting in my car, and then when I went in, there was another resident who was asking me for money, and food, and whatever I had in my hand. The person who walked me around was a five. My experience trying to confirm that I had a tour was a one or a zero. I called to confirm, and no one seemed to be able to confirm with me that they were aware that I was coming. They said they would get back to me, and no one ever got back to me, so I just wound up showing up, and the person who gave me the tour was very friendly. However, she wasn't necessarily prepared to provide a tour. The place was very disheveled. Whoever owned the place before, that signage was still up there. The facility smelled as soon as I got in the door. The staff pretty much mentioned this is for people who have mental disabilities. The room I saw wasn't dirty. It's just that everything looked old. Everything didn't look like it was maintained properly. That's not a place I would recommend for anybody. It didn't seem like the patients were even well taken care of. The people that I talked to on the phone were not professional in my book, and telling me that you're going to get back to me, and then you still don't get back, that was very concerning."

"My dad is at Riverview Estates. It's nonprofit; it's not a big corporation. It's more like a family. It's close to home, so on my way home from work, I can stop, I can see him, and hang out for a half hour and not have to spend half my day traveling to bring him here and bring him back. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. The place is an old Victorian that's been kept up, and it's right on the river. They can sit on the porch in the summertime and look at the river and see the sailboats go by. They have trips to ShopRite and Target. They've got more activities than I can count. They get a list of stuff for every day. They have people that come in and they have entertainment."

"I visited the independent living community of Wesley Enhanced Living Pennypack Park. The person who gave the tour was very polite and answered my questions. The room I saw was not bad for a 1-bedroom apartment. The hardest adjustment would be living in an apartment rather than living in a house. There was nothing wrong with the apartment itself. The dining area looked nice. In my case, I don't have to go there if I don't want to because I'm going to have a kitchen in my apartment. But since they said I will be given 3 meals a day, I might as well take that and go there in the morning, lunch, and dinner. The parking seemed alright, and there was plenty of parking."

"Sunrise Abington is a nice and clean facility. The staff is excellent and professional. They have a lot of activities. I like everything about them. Everything was excellent. "

"I visited Sunrise of Haverford, which happens to be a mile away from my family. Their facility is very light, airy, and sunny with nothing dark in it and everybody seems to really like each other, so it has a very agreeable climate. We were very happy with it. In a month or so, I’ll move in. The staff is very agreeable, very likeable, and like each other. I liked them, and we had a great time. They almost forgot to take down my statistics because we were talking so much. "

"I loved Sunrise of Lafayette Hill. The sales director was very informative and appeared to be committed to the residents and to the community. The place was clean and smelled like chocolate chip cookies. I liked the place because it had an open porch where people could sit when the weather was really nice. It also had an enclosed, heated porch. The rooms were fine, but I don't remember anything that stood out."

"I visited Oakwood Residence for my sister. It was very nice and clean. The people were nice. I like the area; it was clean and nice. However, my sister was not qualified. The rooms were beautiful. They were remodeled. It was a beautiful place. Their dining room was very nice. They had nice table clothes. It looked like a restaurant. I would recommend Oakwood. The people seemed happy, and the facility was very nice. "

"My mom moved into Sunrise of Dresher. It's very clean, and very well staffed; that's important. They have plenty of activities, and it seems like it's an open and welcoming place. When she needs help, they're generally pretty prompt in their response time. Sometimes it takes a little longer than other times. It depends on the time of day, if it's a shift change or anything like that. The rooms are very nice. The room that I got for Mom was like one of two in the building that had extra windows. It was very bright and sunny, which is better than the other rooms. Some of the rooms seem a little darker, only because they only have like one window and they're smaller. The food is really good. We actually had Thanksgiving dinner there, and I was blown away. It was very surprising to me. I did not expect it to be that good. The dining area is clean, and an open area, which is nice, and there's lots of windows, so it's very bright. I sat in on one of the activities that was fun. They also have a couple of living rabbits with the group that the residents can hold and play with. They foster the rabbits there until somebody takes them into a permanent home, and then they get more rabbits. One of the tenants also has her dog, which my mom likes to interact with. So, you're going to have a pet there if you can take care of it. It was very clean. I don't have any problems with that. The movie room is inside the activity center, so that's kind of all inclusive. There is a hair salon, but they haven't had that open. I think the hairstylist they have is on maternity leave; they're looking for some other hairstylist. There's not a lot of community areas that the residents can sit in and interact if they want to. I think that's a good value. You get the care level you need for your loved one."

"Spring Hills Cherry Hill was great. It's at the top of my list. We saw both the assisted living and memory care, and it's got a very friendly atmosphere. It's very comfortable. When we were in there, it didn't feel like a hospital. So, if I would have to put my mom there, I would feel very comfortable. It just felt like home. They answered any questions we had and everybody spoke to us as we were walking through. The rooms were very large and very clean. Evan was the one I dealt with the most and he's been following up several times. Even at the last minute I called him (because my brother was in town), he said, "Sure. Come on by," and had our last minute tour. It was very nice and they're very helpful."

"We toured Pinnacle at Plymouth Meeting, and I liked it the most. They have a movie theater. It's not like a standard assisted living place, but it seems like you go to the mall, where there are a lot of activities, restaurants, barbers, and doctors, and everything is very convenient. It had a studio and was too small, but the one-bedroom was adequate. They had a full-size refrigerator. It was a very nice facility and worth checking out, and the food was pretty good."

"It's been 90% positive, so it's been good. My parents are in the assisted living right now. It's not too clinical, and they have lots of activities. The staff is friendly. Their room is really good and big enough to get my parents' king bed in the bedroom, which is what they wanted. The room is perfect and one of the things that sold us on the place. My parents say the food is somewhat institutional but very adequate. My mom partakes in some of the exercise classes. They try to get my dad to get out and join but don't pressure him too much."

"My mother has been at Woodbury Mews for two and a half months now. I like it. I had a tour, and I was impressed with this facility. It is recommended first by the nurse practitioner that is caring for my mom at home. My mom has her own furniture in her apartment, which is good. It is more like home. It has a refrigerator, a bath, and plenty of closet space. It is well-lit and modern. It also has hardwood floors. There are plenty of activities, and that's one of the benefits. It is one of the good points of this place. The staff is very good. The nurses, the people that take care of my mom, and the activity people are all good. The facility is clean. It is fairly modern. "

"Springfield Crossings was new and updated, and they had a lot of amenities. The person who gave me the tour was nice. They seemed really caring and very interested in making the seniors active. They had a gym, a salon, a courtyard, a dining room like a cafe, and a garden."
