Brightwater provided exceptional care for my mother while in both assisted living and nursing care. Sharon went above and beyond to help ensure my mother was in good care. The staff including Chris, Linda and Candy were compassionate and very kind in giving my mother the level of care she needed. My family is very grateful to the entire Brightwater community which we highly recommend.

Brightwater was my top favorite. They had everything and I loved it. They had indoor and outdoor pool facilities, a two-car garage, and every one of their independent living standalone had a golf cart. In the units, they had a full kitchen and a washer-dryer. They have a rehab place right there with licensed therapists so you don't have to go somewhere else to get rehab. The lady that took us around was professional. She was friendly, warm, and very knowledgeable about the facility. She made sure we had no questions when we left. We also had lunch there and the food was so good that I asked for more.

Brightwater is a nice facility. We ate there, and it was delicious. The facility was very clean and nice. The dining room was very well adorned and had nice decorations, with nice tables. We interacted with the residents, and most of them seemed very happy to be there. The staff was very cordial. They have a gym and a pool. If you get one of the outlying independent living places, they provide you with a golf cart to go back and forth to the dining room. They have all kinds of programs. They have a bar where you can chat. They have an activities director, and the activities are very well planned as well. You have to come up with a large sum of money to be admitted to Brightwater.

I was not impressed by this community, it is very dated. It seems like all of the luxury of this senior living is geared towards the independent side of this community. My sister and I waited for a good 30 minutes to have a tour that we scheduled ahead of time. But, this gave us an opportunity to interact with the seniors who already lived at Brightwater. Needless to say, they didn’t give high remarks towards this community. One Senior said that her husband (who recently passed away) and she moved to the assisted living side. Said that her independent cottage money she couldn’t access until the community sells her cottage and that could take up to 5 years. Her kids are helping her pay for the assisted living side because she has all of her assets tied up in the cottage. She said that’s not how they presented it to me and my husband. She also said that they are always short staff or as she says the staff says is “staff challenged”. My sister spoke with another senior who said she liked the community, smiled and said to her, “except for those 2 helpers, they are rough when they help me to bed”. When we toured we asked about staffing, we asked about covid, we asked about financials and all questions where answered with other questions asked about something else, so not really answered. I would not recommend. As stated before, community very dated and in the memory care, we didn’t see a cheerful staff and not a lot of interaction. Saw a lot of seniors just sitting in front of the television (no movie, just Maury).

Brightwater has been very good to us. My mom's room is in memory care and it's beautiful. The staff is very caring and very attentive to all her needs and problems. The food could be a little better, but their dining area is attractive and the atmosphere of the place is very nice and very friendly. They have different things to do every day. They make a lot of decorations for the different types of the year, they go on bus rides, they go get ice cream, or go over to the assisted living area for concerts. They don't let them just sit in their room. They make sure that they're involved in doing things, and they keep us all updated with newsletters and personal reports.

I was really happy when my grandparents moved here. With their health conditions and no family in the area, we placed them here based on the care that they would need. The first time I visited, I was completely blown away by their care staff and all the activities that my grandparents do! I felt so much better after seeing my grandparents knowing that they are loved, cared for, and comfortable at Brightwater! My grandmother is in memory care and my grandfather is in assisted living, but I see them both every time I visit!

I thought Brightwater was very nice and it was well-kept. I know people who have been there and they're happy. It has everything because we know that my husband will need memory care at some point. They're addressing a real need and I can't believe how much it's grown. It's a good place because they keep building and building. It can't be a bad place, otherwise, people won't keep moving there. Everyone was wonderful, I have nothing bad to say about any of them. We only got to meet the head. We had dinner there and it was very, very nice. You have choices, the food was presented and done very well, and the dining room was very nice. I like the idea that they had an indoor pool. A lot of the apartments have patios or decks or porches. The layout was nice, the buildings all have elevators. Part of their guarantee as continuing care is that if you need the next level of care, you get it. They would take the residents to the theater. Someone I knew there needed to have her blood drawn every day, and they drew her blood every day. The whole area was built up unbelievable. The thing is, I don't want to buy-in. You're still paying a monthly fee, but you've given the money upfront that you're not gonna get back. The people I knew who lived there died, so their son said that somebody had to buy it for you to get any money out of it.

My husband has been in Brightwater maybe a little longer than two weeks now. It's a very nice place, and he seems happy. He seems satisfied with the physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy they provide to him almost every day. There were just times I'd go there, and he'd be sitting on a wet bed. Nobody came in to check on him. I know he is there for rehab, but he needed a little bit of nursing care in the beginning. When he left the hospital, he could not walk at all or take care of himself. He was having incontinence problems. Everytime time I asked them for anything though, they did it right away. It's just they didn't check on him often enough. That's my only complaint, but the place was very nice and clean. He has a very nice room. There were some chairs in the rooms that were soiled, and I think they should be updated. It looks like somebody had accidents and they just wiped off the stains. They do have exercises, but he doesn't like to do that. It's a very convenient location. I could get there in 15 minutes or so, and the grounds are beautiful. The staff is very nice, very professional, and helpful. Because of COVID, they wouldn't let me in to see the other parts of the facilities. You had to go to one building to check in, get your temperature taken, fill out forms. Then you had to get back in the car and go over to the building. I had to allow an extra half hour to do everything I had to do before I got in. When you come in, you have to go from the door right to the room. You can't even go out to the desk to ask a question.

My Mom was here for "rehab". They let her lay in urine and feces - told her to "just go in your diaper" and hours later they might clean it. The only "rehab" is during PT or OT sessions. They are not encouraged or assisted to wash up or use the toilet on their own. Hiding behind COVID, they required me to sign in and notify 1 hr prior to visits. This is so they can quickly dress her and make her look "cared for". Worse yet? They "resolved" a bed sore that clearly was in very bad shape. I took her to Wound Care the day after her discharge and 6 weeks later it is still not healed because of the neglect at Brightwater. A handful of the staff is excellent, but unfortunately the rest are mediocre, at best, spending lots of time on their cellphones while entering data at the nurse's station or assisting a patient with meals. Most of the time her room and bathroom was filthy and I had to clean it up. I even found her wearing someone else's clothing on one visit even though her clothing was clearly marked. The food is good, but this is merely a place to send people to rot away until they die.

When my elderly sister was looking for a home in a retirement village that was a cut above the rest place, we knew Brightwater was a must-see for us. As we drove onto the campus, she commented that it immediately gave her a good feeling. Two staff members met and sat down with us to give a high-level followed by a more detailed account of what Brightwater was all about and what it had to offer its residents. The air was cordial and my sister felt very comfortable with staff and the session. We then toured the Independent Living part of the campus where we were shown all of the amenities such as the dining room, library and activity rooms. Once that was complete, we were shown the respective residential units that either were or would shortly be coming available. All the features and services were well covered as we progressed. When the tour segment was complete, we again gathered to discuss the financial aspects of becoming a resident so that, by the end of the visit, my sister had everything she needed to make the decision for her future. It was all very professionally carried out and the staff that we met with were both well informed and very easy to talk with. That is why, in our minds, Brightwater earned a 5-star rating.

My Mom moved in March 1 of 2020 just before the virus complications and the timing could not have been more perfect. Most of her family is over 600 miles away but because of the excellent communication, care from a fantastic staff and for so many other reasons I could not be happier with her decision to live at Brightwater. Many times, even with the distance, we feel that we are right down the hall. The important thing is she is very happy and gets so much support even as her hearing and sight declines. I know my Dad is smiling in heaven because she decided to live at Brightwater and remain in Myrtle Beach, a place she loves.

I enjoy having indoor pool classes and look forward to warmer weather and sitting around the outdoor pool. The Brightwater member directory is very helpful to put names with faces. We have a small group to play Mah Jong and hope to get more members to join the fun. The bus will take us to the grocery store and the drivers help us with loading & unloading. There are many dining options to choose from and I still enjoy cooking myself in my villa’s full kitchen. I am looking forward to more social interaction after COVID is over.

Brightwater's rehab part was lovely. It was a beautiful facility and there were activities, however, the pandemic has made a big change in just about everything that happens there. They did a good job with my mom's rehab. They had a special area inside a beautiful library where you could actually bring in dinner and you could have dinner together. Mom didn't complain about the food. They had an indoor pool. They had expensive apartments all the way to nursing care, or close to nursing care, they had a memory care unit, they had assisted living, lots of activities, and beautiful visiting rooms.

My mother went to Brightwater for rehab. I thought it was all very good, they were all very caring, they had lots of things to do, and they helped her get stronger so that she was able to be discharged. We didn't have any problems at all with them. It's beautiful, very nice, everything was neat, clean, and orderly. I can't think of anything that didn't look good. They had bingo, singalongs, and ice cream socials.

Thankful, daughter

Today we had the pleasure of visiting my mother during the COvid 19 new visitation schedule. It was the perfect set up to socially distance while getting to visit with my mother after several months if lock down. I cannot say enough good things about the way BW has handled this pandemic. They have kept the residents safe, well fed and entertained way beyond anyone's expectations. They have also been excellent with communication through out this medical crisis.

Chris and I moved from Connecticut to Brightwater in October 2016. In our 3 1/2 years here we have found it to be an extremely warm and caring place. The staff members, many of whom have unusually long tenure always go the extra mile to insure that we are well cared for. Particularly during the current pandemic they have done everything possible to insure that we are all safe. They have even been delivering our dinners each evening to keep us from having to gather unsafely. It"s a great place to live. Cliff and Chris Vermilya

My Aunt’s experiences at Brightwater are always pleasurable. The facilities at Brightwater are meticulously maintained and the staff is always nice, friendly, and willing to provide any assistance that may be needed. Before moving to Brightwater my aunt had been living all along in her home of 30 years in Little River, South Carolina. She had been reluctant to sell the house that her and her late husband had called home. After moving into Brightwater, it was as if a new wave of emergency and happiness had come upon her. She started making new friends and attending the regular social events planned by Brightwater. meals in the company of other lady friends she had made at Brightwater; instead of eating all along in her home. Brightwater provides shuttle service to her doctor’s appointments, and any prescriptions that are needed are either picked up by the Brightwater staff, or Additionally, she was able to enjoy her delivered to the front desk. When my Aunt and I reminisce about the past and her decision to move to Brightwater, we both always say the same thing; it was the best decision she had made.

My husband & I moved into Brightwater almost 9 years ago. Brightwater is a wonderful place to live and all of needs are taken care of. The staff cares about you and how you are doing even as one of you needs a higher level of care. The Staff took such good care of my husband through the years. My husband loved his purple sunglasses from the Mardi Gras parade and if he was having a tough day, his nurses knew if they put the glasses on it would make him laugh! There are so many amenities that benefit our health. The WAVES program in the pool was one of my husband’s favorite activities, it allowed him to focus on getting stronger and healthy as long as possible. Anything you need, the staff will find a solution to make you comfortable and at home. There is wonderful entertainment for special occasions and sometimes just because it’s Brightwater. I can have my meals delivered to my villa on days I’m not feeling like going out. Thank you

I went to Brightwater. The director was open, honest, welcoming, and gave me a tour right away. She was very polite, introduced me to everybody as we walked around, and I've also spoken to the admissions director. She's timely, understanding so far, very pleasant, accommodating, and everything is so far so good. It looked clean, neat, and they were going to have activities to keep people active. I also have friends that worked there over the years, volunteered there, and said good things. It looked like a place where my mom has more vibes, and a country-esque feel. I was excited with the pool. I thought it would be easier for my mom to do stuff. They were doing sing-along when I walked through. They also had an ice cream room, and they were getting ready for Valentine's day. The activities director seemed very pleasant, too.

I just finished my rehab stay at Brightwater. Even though I had a trying time during my rehab Brightwater was good to me. I stayed in the cypress unit. What made Brightwater amazing for me was my girl/aid kyeisha. This woman treated me like gold. From her great care and our awesome conversations. She always made sure that I was okay she wouldn’t leave me until she knew I was okay. She always had a smile on her face throughout her she never loses it. She is one of the most caring person I ever met in my life. I recommend her to any of my loves. My favorite aid in history. Thank you Brightwater for everything. And a huge thanks to Kyeisha she took above and beyond to a new level. Thanks

I have been living at Brightwater since April and life is wonderful, I was amazed how friendly everyone is. My daughter feels at home when she comes to visit. I was thrilled that Brightwater was pet friendly and my dogs enjoy going for walks. I stay very busy with activities & exercising. The lectures, classes and trivia are very informative, and I am even learning to play Mah Jong! Susan, Cassandra & Joan are excellent, and I really enjoy the WAVES program in the pool. The drivers are great, I was surprised that they take me wherever I need to go. Danay has such a great personality and he cares enough to check if I’m not there to go shopping. I enjoy cooking, but the food in the dining room is very good. Soups are out of the world and the desserts are phenomenal! Maintenance responds very quickly when I need help with something. I love living at Brightwater!

My mother lived in the independent living section for several years and was very happy there. As she aged, it became clear that she needed more assistance and we worked to get her transferred to Assisted Living (AL). She lived in AL for 10 months. During that time she raved about the direct care staff who were kind and considerate, however, when issues arose, such as pain and swelling on the back of her leg, it was not addressed for several weeks. She ended up having a cancerous lesion. She had chronic UTI's which were randomly treated. Her care was transferred from her primary care doctor to the treating staff in AL. I do believe that they forgot that this transfer of care had taken place. My mother kept saying that she couldn't get anyone to listen to her there and she came to believe that they didn't care. We transferred her to another facility and we are very happy with the care she is currently receiving.

Provider Response

We are happy to hear that your mom had a pleasant experience in independent living and in assisted living initially. The ability to age in place is just one of the many benefits of living in our community. We have a Physician Assistant that rounds in Assisted Living weekly so any concerns that weren’t addressed or actions that weren’t communicated should not have occurred. We are thankful to hear that your mom is doing well. One of our Guiding Principles is “we exist to serve our members.” We encourage you to reach out to our Care Services Administrator or our Executive Director if you would like to discuss further. Thank You.

I live in Brightwater. It's wonderful, but they have no facilities for couples in assisted living. The food is wonderful. The place is great for independent living. They have independent, assisted living, and long-term care. I would stay here except for the assisted living facility since they have no combination for couples there.

My mom has two aides and two nurses every time she rings the bell at Brightwater. She’s kept quite comfortable and has her confidence back. They constantly have bingo, movies, a swimming pool, and all kinds of stuff to keep her busy. There's a lot of entertainment to keep the patients who live there young. They have five doctors on staff and three PAs. The doctor is a geriatric doctor who comes over whenever there’s a call. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I pulled the button off of the wall and three nurses came running. I have never seen anybody move as fast. I’m very impressed.

Brightwater was simply gorgeous but out of my price range. I loved everything. They served thee meals and did not charge extra for snacks. They had transportation. They had two pools, a rehabilitation room, and a salon.

One of the reasons why we chose Brightwater for my mother is that it's very close to our house, and they offer nice amenities and activities. They have complete care from independent to skilled nursing and memory unit. The staff is good. They have more activities than what my mother particularly needs.

Provider Response

Their meal was delicious. The presentation from staff members was professional, cordial, personal, and informative. The video had a good overview and appropriate length. Other than questions and answers, financial information should be clarified.

At Brightwater, the food was excellent. They're very welcoming. They invited us to visit and bring family to show you all the different facilities they have, e.g., one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom, house or apartment. They have pool and exercise classes. They have just about everything or anything you want to do. They have memory care, assisted living, independent living, and physical therapy. Their 24-hour care is available if someone would faint or something like that.

My father-in-law is in memory care of Brightwater, and the staff is amazing and very professional -- I couldn't be happier. It is the most expensive one, but it is very clean, aesthetically beautiful, and has lots of activities going on. I'm extremely impressed -- it's worth the money.

Provider Response

Thank you for the nice words about the care we are providing for your Father-In Law. Our staff is fully dedicated to making sure your loved ones are "Living The Weller Life" and it is always rewarding when they receive compliments from the family. Thank you again for the comments.

It was very nice, but I think it was more for someone who is a little younger than my mother because they seem to do a lot more, and they did have a point system for food or eating arrangements; I think that would be too much for her. Like I said, the people that live there go out a lot. My mother is 90, and she is probably more for staying in than going out to a lot of places. The staff was very informative, and they have called back a few times just to check and see what she has decided or if she has decided anything. They were very helpful, and we enjoyed the tour. It was a probably a place for me and my husband.

I have been happily living here. My unit is small and just right for me. The "help" is kind and helfpul. The food is good. The activities are "to my liking". Often more available than I care for. My unit is plesant and cleaned well regularly. The activities provided for us satisfy me. I take part regularly. Happy to be here. So far my attitude is positive here.

We went to Brightwater. It was very nice. For one thing, if you go into their assisted living and, later on, you can no longer take care of yourself, they go on from there. In other words, they have doctors and nurses there. I liked that they had a swimming pool. It is not that far from the hospital in Myrtle Beach.

One thing you can say about Brightwater is that there is never a dull moment. You can go on trips to wineries, visit beautiful Brook Green Gardens, go on boat rides on nearby lakes and rivers as well as enjoy a wide variety of in house and outside entertainment. If you like to read and do crafts there are several from which you can choose. The variety of events means that there is something for all tastes. Sometimes it is just pleasant to sit outside, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, soak up the sun, and chat with your neighbors. Recently, I have become a member of the Resident Advisory Council, editor of the Brightwater newsletter, and chairman of the Book Keys book club. This involvement has allowed me to give back to the community that I love so much.

The biggest complaint my father had/has is the lack of concern by the nurse. Was told that there is a 24RN on duty when there is one LPN on duty at night. As a diabetic he needs his blood sugar checked before breakfast and dinner. They are usually checked while having breakfast or after and tonite, having dinner at 6:30 sugar was checked at 7:45. Very short staffed. Rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis, not even the bathrooms. Floors are always dirty. The physical therapy staff are top notch. The best you will find anywhere. The biggest problems are with the nursing staff. That alone is the reason I cannot give more than one star.

Provider Response

At Brightwater, we take concerns regarding our members, our employees, and our community seriously. Every day our community strives to provide excellent healthcare in a clean, safe environment for our members. If you haven’t done so, we ask that you directly reach out to our Executive Director who is aware of your comments. We appreciate you taking the time to address your concerns with a member of our community.

I had a very good experience with regards to my visit at Brightwater's independent living section. It was beautiful; an excellent facility. It didn’t look like a nursing home, it looked like a country club. The staff were very nice and extremely helpful. We saw a furnished one that was a model apartment. It was absolutely lovely and I could live there myself. They also provide bus service to doctors' appointments. Their dining room is beautiful. They have a salad bar and the food was lovely.

I have been at Brightwater to visit people. It is very beautiful. It may be five or six years old. It is quite new. It is light and bright and probably five times as big as the other facility I visited. Brightwater was wonderful. They had absolutely gorgeous rooms. Everything was wonderful. The food was delicious. The people did a good job. They were very efficient. I would definitely recommend them to others.

Brightwater was beautiful; it's just that it was way higher than what we can afford price-wise. If money was no object, I would have no problem. They did have more accommodation for us. They had the pool, which would have been a plus. The staff were very nice and very friendly. They were also very accommodating. I got a very warm feeling. As far as the amenities, they have top ratings.

Brightwater was a little too expensive for what my father wanted. The rooms were gorgeous, and it had a beautiful dining room. It was definitely upscale. It looked like an exclusive hotel. They have three meals a day, but you buy your meals. I think people just don’t like the expense of it.

Brightwater is what I like the best. It's a retirement community, but they have assisted living in there and Alzheimer's. It's a perfect place, but I can't afford it. Everything about it is terrific. It's very clean. I like their rooms, their meals, their dining room and their staff. They have a ton of activities, from health to games to outings to everything. The staff is fabulous.

I lived in the area of Brightwater, and it was pretty easy to find. It was a little pricey, but it was nice and really attractive. It was well-done, clean, and nicely decorated. There weren't many people that I saw, but the staff was very pleasant to us. We looked at the house and the rooms, and they were both nice and a good size. We ate lunch there, and I had turkey, which was kind of bland, but they had a variety, and I'm sure some of it was kind of tasty. They told me what activities they had, but I didn't see anybody doing them.

What I liked best about Brightwater was the layout of the facility and the fact that they have very nice dining facilities there. There were two different style rooms. One is a little bit bigger than another. They're not anything wonderful and they have a refrigerator and a microwave in each room. The sanitation was okay. As far as just looking at it, it looked fairly clean and the people seemed very nice. They have an indoor spa pool for therapy, an outdoor pool, a fitness center that has got pool tables and from what I could tell, they have a lot of different activities out there. They have a miniature golf on the premises and they have a little bit of a driving range.

I was at Brightwater receiving physical therapy for two weeks. The first ten days were very pleasant. Great staff! Upon arriving we were told we could leave at any time we felt like our goals had been meet. This is not a prison. However when I asked to leave after ten days I was told I would be leaving ama. I had never heard of ama. I found out that it meant against medical advise. I was told that if I left ama that medicare probably wouldn,t pay for my treatment. I felt like I was being held hostage. After three days of trying to check out,, I finally got to see Dr. Armonio and he said I was free to go. I checked out on Dec. 24. Even though I had a Drs. permission, my discharge papers said I was leaving ama. This is not true! The discharge clerk refused to fill my prescription for a walker and a wheelchair and wouldn,t let us borrow or rent one. Ridiculous behavior! I thought I was going to have to get a Presidential pardon to check out. Being admitted and the care were excellent. The staff could not have been better. However, all they need are bars and a guard and it would be a prison when you are ready to leave. I would rate the care at five. I would rate the checkout procedure at 0 ! Beth was not cooperative at all. It was a very frustrating and unbelievable experience. Were they worried about my care or Medicare?

I received a phone call from my Aunt and she stated that the woman in charge of the facility,( I will not mention her name) acts very pleasant to visitors and residents but then she talks badly about them when she thinks no one is listening. It has bothered my aunt so much that she is looking for a different place to live.

Provider Response

We take concerns of this nature very seriously at Brightwater. While we can appreciate your desire to stay anonymous, please encourage your Aunt to contact Executive Director Jimmy Justice directly so we can be proactive in responding to any concerns she may have. Jimmy has an open door policy and will make himself available at her earliest convenience. Everything in Brightwater was nice and clean because it's practically new. We were toured, and they showed us their model apartments and cottages. The apartments were very nice, roomy and well located. The staff were friendly, very accommodating, and they answered questions. They also provide shuttle to take the residents to their doctor's appointment. Everything seemed to be pretty well taken care of. We had a delicious dinner. The location though is so secluded and away from everything else.

I felt as if the atmosphere was very pleaseant and the service provided was outstanding. The living condition were excellent as well as the food that my grandfather ate daily. there was good variety in the food as well as many activities to participate in. The only thing i would complain about is the staffs relationships with eachother. To explain the staff seemed to be hostile with each other, and had continual fits wioth eachother, basically drama. it didnt conlict with there work but was unproffesional

Our visit turned out very good. It was a beautiful facility. It's well-manicured. It's very very nice. We happened to go at a time where all the residents were in one area doing some kind of an activity. They looked happy and cheerful especially the women that we had spoken to. Some of them were very personable and had to come over and see what we're doing. Their hair was just so nice. They were dressed nice. It definitely made an impression. The staff was accommodating and very welcoming. We were very well received. I like how they had the place decorated. It was a very well lit area. There was plenty of room, nothing to get in the way of the residents moving around. That day we visited they were making cookies and they had asked us if we wanted to taste it but we did not, but it smelled very, very good.
