"We toured Alice Lorraine Care Center. It was super clean. They're very nice and very helpful people to work with. As far as decoration is concerned, it was very nice, and the grounds were beautiful. Even though we weren't there when the flowers were blooming, you could just see that they had a nice garden area. They have a gazebo. Every room has one or at least two windows, so you could see out onto the grounds. There is a nice big window that looks out on a wall and the wall has statues and things to make it look pretty. Out of all the places that I have looked, Alice Lorraine Care Center felt warm, cozy, and friendly. And the people that were living there were smiling and were involved with each other, playing games and playing cards in one area. Some were just watching television, but you could tell that they were very involved in that home and the residents there. The staff who gave the tour was very helpful. She showed us the kitchen area and the snacks available. Anytime somebody wants a snack, they could have somebody get it for them or they could get it themselves. The cook that was there was starting to make lunch, and it smelled good."

"The experience we have had at Hope Health Care has had its ups and downs. The staff is either on the good side of the spectrum or the bad. The nurses, some of them really know how to do their job. I have really liked a few of them, and others well I don't understand how they got a job there. The social workers they have there are great. They are willing to work with you 110% on everything you need. Hope has plenty of things to do for the elderly, game days, sing a-longs, bingo, and sometimes they even go out on outings. There was one time they went to a baseball game, my mother in-law loved it. The meals they serve there are pretty good. Usually they have a couple different choices, just in case someone doesn't like the "main" course, they have substitutes for them. All in all, I would recommend it to anyone that needs assisted living, they are kind and courteous at Hope and I am glad we picked them. "

"I am a friend of a resident of Camelot Nursing facility. In general, I thought Camelot Nursing facility was an excellent nursing facility for a low income person or for a person on a limited fix income. Camelot was a nice facility and it offers competitive rates for someone who is looking for an excellent patient care nursing facility for a friend or family member that are low income or that are on a limited fixed income. The grounds of the facility are pretty and the landscape was very well maintained and structured in a nice suburban neighborhood in Westland Michigan. The common areas of the facility are in a very nice suburban neighborhood with malls, restaurants and shopping centers surrounding to the facility. The facility is nice and clean and it does not smell. The patients receive excellent care at Camelot Nursing facility and the vast majority of residents are happy there. There residents' rooms are nice and the coordination is nice and of many bright colors such as; white, off white, and beige and the colors are also coordinated well together. The carpet is earth tone, brown and the furniture is medium brown in the residents' rooms. The staff and management of the facility are very professional and team, task, oriented in their specific job duties and their performance. I think the residents receive excellent care there. The vast majority of residents were happy and interacting with one another and some of the rooms are huge and have four beds in them. Camelot matches up the rooms that have four beds in them; to residents that are most similar in character and personality. The residents' rooms did not smell there were automatic air fresheners in the residents' rooms that set off as I noticed every twenty or thirty minutes on a timely basis. While I was there, I noticed that the residents were treated like family with great respect and dignity from the staff and management. I also noticed that they dining, recreational, and activity areas were rather large and nicely coordinated with matching furniture in all three rooms. I also noticed that the entire setting of the facility was structured and maintained well and had more of a contemporary style look and décor enhancing it. I would have to give Camelot Nursing facility a five star rating for its excellence in patient care. Overall, Camelot Nursing facility is an excellent choice for someone that is looking for an excellent patient care nursing facility for a friend or family member that is low income or on a limited fix income. I would recommend Camelot Nursing facility to anyone, everyone, and for seniors 50 and over that is looking for an excellent low income nursing facility for a friend or family member because I know they would like it there and because I know that they would do well there. "A dear friend of mine went here for rehab after having his leg amputated. The rooms are clean, large and fairly well mantained. The staff is extrordinary !!!! Everyone loves their job and they show it by passing it on to the residents. I not only recommend Maple Manor - It will be my choice if I am ever in need of rehab. "

"My husband moved to The Orchards of Wayne and so far it's been great. No complaints. So far, the staff has been good. The staff hasn't told me anything out of the ordinary. He's in a three-person room, so he's in a room with two other men. They do cooking, they play bingo, and they do some kind of activities for motor skills."

"This is my 2nd visit to Westland Nursing and Rehab Centre. I was a patient here last spring after a bout of pneumonia, and this time I have a pressure sore on the back of my thigh. I am a paraplegic, 70 years old, and my skin is becoming more fragile with age. My experience here has been largely positive. The food is good, if sometimes cold. The major problem seems to be understaffing. There are two RN's/LPN's per shift for some 100 patients. This seems to be the minimum allowed under Michigan law. These professionals spend most of their time on their computers, since there is a huge amount of documentation required by Medicare and Medicaid. Nursing aides are expected to look after up to a dozen patients. As a result, a patient can expect to wait 15 to 20 minutes or more for a response to their call lights. This phenomenon is worse on the midnight shift. Most of the aides are kind and patient, but others seem to be there just to collect a paycheck. Aides training levels seem to be poor, with much of it done on the job. The rehab gymnasium, physical therapiests and occupational therapists are EXCELLENT! They worked me hard, and I really appreciate their efforts, It doesn't take long in the hospital to become rundown and out of shape. Finally, a minor quibble. I have been here for nearly a month, and I enjoy watching TV. Unfortunately, my TV experience has been poor. The facility subscribes to DirecTV. I have 11 channels, one of which has a loud 60hz. buzz on the audio, rendering the channel unviewable. My roommate's TV receives 25 channels. When I complained to the maintenance man he said, "Everybody gets 25 channels!" and just walked away. Well, that has been my experience here at Westland Nursing and Rehab Centre. Thank you! "

"My mother seemed pretty much satisfied with the care at Four Chaplains. They keep bringing me up to date on what they are doing. The care has been a big help. Some of her visitors so far have all been satisfied with it. Plus, I think one of the key things was that it’s not that far from where I am, so it's not a long distance. It's a combination. The staff is responsive, plus my wife had worked for some of those assisted living places, so she checks on my mom, and that pretty much takes care of everything. They are clean; they keep it up to par. It's a day-by-day thing, so I'm satisfied. I seem to be happy with that. "

"My dad is in a long-term care facility, Pine Creek Manor. He has been there for three weeks now. The aides who work there are very companionable with the residents. The nurses are mean and short. There are three people to a room in a room that should only hold two people. So, it's overcrowded. You can't visit in the room; you have to visit in the lobby. Overall, I am not happy with the place. To get a day pass for him, it felt like we had to harass, harass, harass, harass, and then even when we got there, he wasn't ready to go. The residents are not a priority in that place. The place is very old, and it looks its age. It comes across as dirty. It may be clean, but it's so rundown that it just looks dirty. We're not allowed in the room. My dad is not eating while he's there; he's not eating well. Medicaid fully pays for it, so if Medicaid fully pays for it, I guess it's worth the money."

Customer service, integrity, purpose, and follow through is of the utmost importance to him. David always wants to see everyone around him succeed. He is always willing to help others and brainstorm about new ideas on how to work together to build our brands. He is quick to respond and in regular communication with our community and has the ability to listen well to our needs in order for our business relationship to be mutually beneficial. Heartland Canton is a wonderful care center and we always get great feedback from residents that need their services."

"Heartland Health Care Center was referred by the hospital. Actually, this is the third time for my sister. They always treat her very nice. The place is very clean, the staff is professional, and they have a doctor on site. She get nice physical therapy and psychological counseling. She also get therapy with her memory because she has an early stage dementia. Her primary doctor prescribed a certain type of medicine. But all of a sudden they decided she didn't need it anymore and they want to do it their way. I didn't like that, because I thought my sister's primary doctor who she has been with for years knew more about her medical condition. But they are the professionals and I'm not. I can't override what they say. "

"Recently my mom had a stay at Livonia Woods, this was her second time there. The administration staff is excellent, qualified and caring people. The rehab department is very good and realistic about limits and goals of the patient. David the activities director, is the shining star of the facility with his consistent care and concern. I agree with the previous reviewer about the dining room being small, but it's ok. The quality of the food is average, they do try to accommodate a patient's requests when possible. Nursing and aid staff do the best they can considering there are numerous patients do deal with at all times. As a family member, my best advice is to be hands on. It's unrealistic to think that you can just drop off your loved one and everything will go without a glitch. At any nursing home, you will need to double check on the patient's medications, meals, grooming, etc., and do the best you can to work with the staff. "

"My mother moved into SKLD Plymouth. They are very caring and very thorough. The facility is clean. They have knowledgeable staff members. The food is good, and my mom is eating it. They do have activities, but my mom's unable to participate. I love their group dining. You can get your hair done. They have crossword puzzles and coloring. I haven't seen anybody unhappy. Everything is covered because my mom is a dialysis patient, so we don't have to pay anything. They make adjustments where needed. If something is off track, they try to ensure that it gets fixed immediately. For example, when my mom gets back from dialysis, they try to make sure everything is warm and ready when she gets situated. I appreciate that."

"My mom was in Marywood before. It was very good; that's why I tried to get her back in there again. She was there for rehabilitation because she couldn't walk after she got out of the hospital. The staff was very good. Everything about it was very good. They give good care. It was very clean. It was close to our house. Some of the food was really good, and some was mediocre, but she didn't really complain about it too much. "

"My sister has been in Imperial Nursing Center since Wednesday. It's a really nice place. When I went over there to check the facility out, it was also very clean. It appeared that there were a lot more residents out in their wheelchairs getting around. It's a really big place, and has four different areas in the facilities. My sister is on the rehab side. She says the food is really good. She got upset yesterday because they gave the same thing for dinner. It was an egg salad sandwich. She wanted me to bring her some food over there, but they gave her something else. She was satisfied with it. They're really accommodating to her. The only thing is that her roommate has the TV up so loud that she can hardly hear her TV. She might be hard of hearing, so I told my sister to put it up a little bit louder. Then she can hear her TV, too. Other than that, it's a very nice place. I like it. I didn't try the food. My sister said it's good, and she's a very picky eater. She likes the staff, too. The facility is really nice. I was really impressed. It's nice, big, and clean. She is in the rehab part. Her health insurance is paying for it, so I don't know how much it is costing."

"My mother was at Medilodge of Plymouth. The people were very friendly. It was a much older place. The people were very nice; however, we didn't have the best experience just because of a miscommunication. My mother had a private room, but there wasn't a bathroom in the room. It made it really inconvenient for my mother because she couldn't walk and she had to be transferred into her wheelchair. Out of all the beds they had there, there were only five to six bathrooms that you had to share with multiple people. That was a little bit inconvenient. She didn't really get to participate in many activities while she was there, though they did have them. We didn't have the best experience there as far as that went. Again, the people that worked there were very nice and did what they could."

When comparing the results of the 2020 Genworth Cost of Care Survey for semiprivate rooms in Westland and the surrounding areas, it’s clear the city’s nursing homes typically charge more for their services. The average fee is $9,429 per month, a $456 and $1,673 increase on the state and national averages, respectively. Families looking for more affordable care within a 70-minute radius of Westland may want to consider Jackson at $8,365 per month, Detroit at $8,821 and Lansing at $8,973.

Many seniors and their families use some form of financial assistance to help them pay for nursing care. The main options available are Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans benefits. These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.
Westland’s typical fees of $10,950 for a private room in a nursing home and $9,429 for a semiprivate one may be off-putting for some. However, if the senior doesn’t require 24/7 care, more affordable options are available. For example, assisted living facilities in Westland typically charge $5,590 for their services, while home care agencies are around $4,767 per month and home health care, $4,862. The Genworth survey doesn’t include costs for adult day care, but the state average of $2,080 should give some indication of likely fees.
