"I've been living in Stratford Court of Palm Harbor. The cost is getting a little too high for me, so I have to go. My budget is telling me that it's time to cut down. I will be 93, and the older you get, the more people you're going to need to wait on you, and you have to pay these people out of your pocket because Medicare doesn't pay for everything, so I have to watch my budget. Outside of that, I have no complaints about this place. This place is gorgeous. You can sit on the front porch and spend the whole night there if you want talking to people.
I am in the independent living section, but they have both independent and assisted living. I love everything about it. There is nothing that I can say about this community that is not good. Everything is excellent. First of all, they are near everything. You can walk to Publix if you want to, and some of the people who live here do that. They also have two Walmarts. One that the residents here could walk to if they want, because it's right here on East Lake Road, and the other one is also only about a 10-minute drive from here. It's conveniently located with everything.
They have all kinds of activities seven days a week. They have everything that you can think of. They have a restaurant that provides you with two meals a day, breakfast and dinner. I'm only moving because I am paying for stuff that I don't need. I am paying for food, but I don't go to the restaurant because I cook my own stuff. When I asked them about it, they said it was on the contract that I signed, and I can't blame them for that. Once you sign a contract, that's it.
They have a mini golf course and a swimming pool where they do exercises. If you want to eat outside and you want to have your dinner outside in the canopy, they have a different charge for that, and you have to make reservations. They have a night guard, the ambulance is here in and out, and we are near Mease Hospital, so they have everything. The bank is here, the post office, and the drugstore. The drug store also delivers. They deliver my medicine when I need it, and that's one of the things that most people like.
The staff is great. For example, you need to have something fixed in the bathroom, and you need a maintenance man, the person comes immediately and fixes it. If you have a problem at night, you could just call downstairs, and the guard comes up and looks at it, tries to fix it, and then he sends the maintenance man the following day to check on it. We have excellent service here. The staff here work so hard, and the activity committee is always working. We have a calendar that is already out for the month of July. They have activities from day one to day 31. All day long, there are activities going on. Some of them you have to sign up for, like the bus trips to different places that they take you on.
Even the food is very good. The only reason I don't eat in the restaurant is that I don't feel like having to get dressed to go there to eat when I can eat here in my house. Everybody said that the food is very good. You could see it from the number of people that they have in the restaurant. They get in line at 3:00 in the afternoon because dinner begins at 3:00 and goes all the way until 6:00. The breakfast is from 7:00 in the morning until 9:00, and the food is very good. They have buffets, and on Sundays they have what they call a brunch. You can have drinks and whatever you want, and you wait on yourself because it's buffet-style. It's the best way because this community is very large. They have about 300 people living here. They offer Happy Hour, which is at night from 6:00. On Friday we're going to have a big party because it's July 4th, and they're going to have all kinds of things from 11:00 in the morning, all the way to about 6:00 or 8:00 at night. They have parties for every holiday like St. Patrick's Day, Easter Sunday, Hanukkah, and even the Jewish holidays. They celebrate every holiday according to the religion of the family. These activities are so excellent that nobody ever goes to bed. They are always celebrating.
The building is 30 years old because it used to be a hotel, but it's in perfect shape. It looks brand-new because they keep it up very well. The outside is also so pretty, and people come to take pictures because they have beautiful scenery outside. In the back, we have the water, the Little River, as I call it. It's also very good. If you have to be evacuated, they also have a program for that. They have everything set, and they have meetings telling you what you need to do.
The price you pay goes according to the floor you're on. I am on the first floor, so I'm paying a lot of money, but the other people who are on the higher floors pay less. However, if I get sick to the point that I need other help, they would need to transfer me to another house, which is assisted living, where you have assistance 24/7. You only get transferred to the other place if they feel it's necessary."
