The area has much to offer, including the championship-level golfing available at Innisbrook Golf Resort. Palm Harbor’s other attractions include a historic downtown area, and residents can access multiple beaches and parks with ease.
Palm Harbor’s seniors have a choice of many high-quality home health care providers. The Genworth Cost of Care Survey 2020 indicates that in Palm Harbor, home care services cost $4,195 per month on average, which is lower than the national average of $4,481. For home health care, Palm Harbor seniors pay an average of $4,576 per month, which matches the national median rate for these services.
Note: Home care cost data wasn’t available for Palm Harbor, so data for the closest city, Tampa, was used.

We have had several caregivers but Cameron far outshines them all and we are so very pleased to have her! She unfailingly is thoughtful, kind, considerate, intelligent, and very professional. She is as close to an ideal caregiver that one could possibly hope for, and we are so grateful that she is working with us. We feel very secure and confident in having her caring for our elder and being in our family home. We also appreciate the office staff who have been very responsive and accommodating to our needs and wishes. Thank you all!

We used Bayshore Home Care for my parents quite a while back. The doctor had ordered it for my father back in 2007. He passed in 2008. So, initially the care was for my father. When my dad passed away, they started caring for my father.
My brother and I have asked them to come in because we knew them from caring for my father. We had them come in a couple of hours a week for my mother. They came in and helped my mother with daily living tasks. My mother had surgery and she had weakness on her left side of her body. She couldn’t take a shower and she couldn’t reach so they would help her with her shower. They would help her get dressed and keep her company. She had been lonely because after my dad died she started to fall. I was coming everyday to see her. They also go for walks with her.
I think most of the time the caregivers are pretty good. Occasionally, they would send somebody young and my mother being an older person she was like 85 when we started it. She got along well with people but they started bring ladies on their 40’s and 50’s and my mother could relate to them better.
The nurse would come out and check on my mother to make sure she was doing ok. They would check if the plan needs to be changed. As she was getting older, she was needing more care and we increased the hours.

She and the people she selects to work in your home are kind, meticulous, considerate, compassionate and truly wonderful. I can’t say enough about this wonderful and amazing service!!!! Debbie seems to pair the right person for each patient. It was a big stress relief as I could not drive, bend or do a lot of the normal day-to-day tasks for weeks. After a terrible experience with another home health care provider we met with the owner of First Light for information regarding care of my 95 year old father who lived at home, was sharp, very fit and not at all happy about having in home care. From the first meeting I felt that the owner was invested in his business and his clients. He expressed a commitment to matching the needs and personality of the client to a caregiver and with some coordination, we have three wonderful caregivers who Dad looks forward to seeing everyday. The first helps keep him fit with excursions to the pool, driving range and putting green. She also keeps easy to heat or eat food in the fridge. We schedule appointments during her shift and she has come to know each of his doctors. Another caregiver takes him on errands or to the wellness center for a workout. She also adds value to his passion of painting landscapes by touching up details that he has trouble with due to low vision problems. His third caregiver comes only once a week. She has become very special to him as well. On Sunday she takes him to church and then to brunch. She is his granddaughter’s age and she never knew her grandfather, so the relationship has meaning for both of them on several levels. I can’t say enough about how First Light has restored the relationship between Dad and I, my sanity and has restored the independence for Dad that he lost when he stopped driving. I know that Dad will need increased levels of care in the future and am confident that with First Light as a partner, we will have the support we will need.

We’ve been using Home Care Partners for my mom. I really can’t think of anything they can improve on because they have been amazing and have been a big help to me. They help with Mom’s daily routine, clean her house, make sure she’s got meals, bathe her, make sure she gets up and dressed, take her to her doctors appointments, go food shopping for her, go to the bank for her, and if she needs to go anywhere they will take her. They do her laundry and housekeeping. They basically do more of everything for her. The billing needs a little help since I haven’t gotten a bill yet, so I know they need to improve on their billing skills. My mom is very comfortable with the caregiver and she loves her. Id definitely recommend them. They’re very efficient, friendly, and they tend to match your loved one up with a person who’s very similar to their personality, which is what happened with my mom. Maddie is very bubbly, talkative, and helpful. She is the perfect fit for my mom. They obviously make their clients their priority and make sure everything is good.

Palm Harbor Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Palm Harbor:
Address: 13945 Evergreen Avenue, 4th Floor, Clearwater, FL 33762
Phone Number: (727) 573-9444
In Pinellas County, Neighborly operates the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers hot lunches Monday through Friday, providing about 600 calories per meal. All Pinellas County residents can obtain low-cost meals, and certain homebound individuals 60 years of age and older may be eligible for meals at no cost. Along with food, the delivery volunteers also provide wellness checks and opportunities for older adults to socialize. Another offering from Neighborly is a transportation service for seniors.
Address: 440 Court Street, 2nd Floor, Clearwater, FL 33756
Phone Number: (727) 464-8210
The Community Development office in Pinellas County operates two programs that may be of interest to senior homeowners. Low- and moderate-income homeowners can apply for funding to fix up their property through the Home Repair Loan Program. Additionally, the office’s Independent Living Program gives grants to low-income homeowners, who can put the funds toward rails, wheelchair ramps and other accessibility and safety features.
Address: 14041 Icot Boulevard, Clearwater, FL 33760
Phone Number: (727) 479-1800
GCJFCS has a number of offerings for seniors, including a homemaker service for frail older adults that provides help around the house along with companionship. Subsidies for caregivers are available as well. GCJFS also runs a counseling service for the elderly and a friendly caller program that reduces feelings of isolation among seniors through weekly telephone chats.
Address: 333 31st Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33713
Phone Number: (727) 327-0977
Offered by the Pinellas County Urban League, LIHEAP is the umbrella program over three forms of aid. The first makes it easier for low-income households to afford electric and gas bills, with elderly individuals among the prioritized demographics. The second gives assistance during a home energy bill-related crisis, and the third helps with bills when a severe weather emergency is declared.
Address: 9549 Koger Boulevard, Suite 100, St. Petersburg, FL 33702
Phone Number: (800) 963-5337
The AAAPP helps older adults access community resources and provides assistance with nutrition. It also runs the area’s Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders program, through which counselors advise seniors about Medicare plans and applications. In-home care is also available through the AAAPP. Additionally, the organization arranges transportation for elders who no longer drive, and it points seniors toward sources of mental and emotional support.
Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
