I didn't care for Birch Hollow Family. It is really not the greatest facility for someone who has memory care and is handicapped. My mom has a physical handicap. It just felt like they didn't have really medical staff there. It was just the husband, wife, and grandmother. They have two places. I wouldn't trust my mom living there. I think that they are basically living there full time, instead of hiring someone. I didn't feel comfortable there. The husband was OK, and the wife was friendly. The rooms were small. The doorways were narrow. Also they have kids, and I feel like the kids are handful. It's a full-time job, and then you have a full-time job taking care of other people. Cleanliness was average. It's only like probably 10 minutes away from where I live. It's probably 15 minutes away from the hospital. It is in a weird place in Ann Arbor. It's residential, and it's not really around the restaurant spot.

I went to Birch Hollow Family. It was a single family house. They don't have a ramp, they have a back door which you can go in with the wheelchair, but the front door has no ramp. The room was so crowded, the kitchen and the living room were so crowded, and I felt like there was no space for a little bit of mobile activity, at least to go for a little walk. The kitchen was full of food, and on the table, on the countertop, it was full of things. Maybe somebody likes that style, but I don't. The staff was welcoming, warm, like family. It's a ranch house, it's small, and the rooms are shared by two people, and I didn't like that either.

I completed the tour at Birch Hollow Family. It's a residential home. It was not what I was looking for. The rooms were small and residents had to share one full bath. The half bath had a step down. The eating area, it's all like bar stool level, just wouldn't work out for my mother, and there were stairs going into the home. The staff was the owners, they were willing to make changes to my concerns, but they were difficult to understand while wearing mandatory masks.
