"My mother-in-law has moved into Westhaven Manor. It's very clean and very friendly. It's a mixed population. We didn't have a food sample, but she has been enjoying the chef and the meals that are being prepared there. The staff is very accommodating and very understanding. They're just good people. For the surroundings, it's a great price. She moved in on a special, so that is a great price with everything that you get -- the peace and the cleanliness. It's a great area."

"Parkside of Livonia was very impressive. It was clean. The people working in the office were excellent. The big deal was that it's three stories, and to be honest my wife was very paranoid after we got to the third floor, and she was wondering about how to get out if the elevators weren't working that well. Gabby was the one we had contact with. She was very informative and very friendly. There were two questions that she didn't know, so she went to somebody in the other office and got us an answer right away. She was tremendous. They don't have food. Every apartment has its own full kitchen. You can order food out. They eat at the same places we eat. They're only five miles away from my house right now, and they're only a mile away from my daughter's house. All in all, it was an ideal location. We could walk to my daughter's house and have a nice afternoon. They have common areas. There was nobody using them, but they were spotless. The carpeting was clean. The trash cans were empty. They have a game room and a movie theater room, and they were spotless. The room that they showed was empty, but it was fresh paint, well maintained, and clean carpeting."

"The medical team and all the staff have everything covered. From the housekeeping and everything, they're all-inclusive. So far, the staff is pleasant and informing. My mother's room is almost complete, they've done some work with the painting and everything so things are almost in order. They're starting to do a few activities but they're still on lockdown because of the virus."

"I was familiar with Brookdale when it was called something else. I liked their setup; it was also very nice. What I like is the fact that they have a screened in porch at the back and just that little area made it homey. I also liked that it was basically on one level, and there was access to green space. What impressed me about them was their policy that if they did not hear from you by 10:00 AM, they did a wellness check. The other places might do that, but I was impressed with that. I am all about the little screened in porch at the back because that was just a really nice part of space."

"I visited the independent living community of American House Dearborn Heights. The community was friendly, and there was a lot to do. I liked the layout of the independent living, and I liked how they had a choice for a meal plan. I like the layout of the rooms, and I was happy to see a washer and dryer. They also have a full kitchen, which is good. The person who gave the tour was friendly and knowledgeable. I also saw their dining area, and it was spacious and lovely."

"Rose Senior Living would rank the highest. I toured everything but memory care. Mainly, I looked at the assisted there. It was very nice, and it was a newer facility. I thought the layout of the rooms was really nice. They had a library, and they had a lounge with music and stuff. The cafeteria was really nice. It was more laid out like a dining room not cafeteria-ish. The staff was wonderful. The menu looked really good."

"The staff in the community are wonderful! I visit my grandmother every Sunday and it is always an enjoyable visit. The staff treat you like family and the residents always seem happy."

"I saw American House Farmington Hills. It was very clean, and it seemed pretty well organized. The lady that I talked to was nice, and she took me on a tour, and that was good. The rooms inside were very, very good, but it was a little bit smaller than the other place. The lady didn't ask me for $500 to go on a waitlist, and she was right to the point. "We thought we had a room for you." I guess somebody within their facility wanted to upgrade to the two bedroom, and I'm trying to get a two bedroom. I didn't get to see the whole facility. It looked very, very small to me, but I did not see anything in the back where they had a lot of things going on. From what I could tell, it looked very well kept up."

"We liked Lockwood of South Lyon because of its location, the apartment size, and its layout. The room that we're going to have will be large enough, under 1,000 square feet, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, so it's very spacious. The staff was very good. The dining area looked very nice. They have a beauty salon, a library, local transportation, and health care services available if you need to contract for them."

"When I visited Brookdale Novi, I saw the room, the space, and what was available. Since it's independent living, they just showed me the package if I needed some help with anything and the prices were too much for me. They showed me a one-bedroom with one bath and its kitchen. The kitchen came supplied, but there was no furniture in the bedroom or the living room, which was fine. The staff was very helpful. The facility was nice and clean. It looked decent."

"I did a tour of Lakeside Assurance Assisted Living. It was a private residence converted into a facility. It has a total of four residents; there were two that were there and there were two open rooms. It was laid out well for a conversion, and it had a common area that was set up that was very roomy. The facility was laid out nicely. There was a part of the facility that was still being developed into a guest room that was under development, but the rest of the place was set up nicely. It was very clean, and it had a cook that prepared the meals, taking into consideration dietary requirements. The administrator that we met with, Brenda, was very detailed in explaining why she started the facility. Her mother had dementia, and she was struggling with having her in a big facility. She decided to develop this, so she would know about her mother's care and everything. She had a connection with a physician and a podiatrist who would visit regularly. The meals and the laundry in the room are all included. Then it would accommodate my sister's furniture, so that was nice. I think she had to have familiar surroundings. I think they could accommodate both assisted living and memory care, but right at that time, it seemed like the residents that were there were dementia patients. We only met with Brenda, and she's seemed very compassionate, caring, and concerned about details about my sister. What kind of activity level she was? Is she verbal at all? Did she interact with people? I thought that was very positive. I think she would be engaged with my sister. It's still under construction partially, but the part that we saw, she set it up very specific to taking care of the residents."
