"My mom moved into Covenant Living at the Holmstad. We chose it because of the location and quality of care. It seemed like my mom could graduate from independent living through some of the other steps if needed. They have very nice swimming facilities. They have all kinds of activities, a gym, and a pool. Everything seemed to be very well maintained and staffed. The staff members seemed to all be very nice. The food is good."

"The biggest selling point of GreenFields of Geneva for us was that it has a life plan, so my sister can stay there the rest of her life. She moved there a week ago, and she's in assisted living. Everyone there is very polite. The place is very clean, and the food smells wonderful. I'm very pleased. The staff is very helpful. They answer any questions that I have, and they seem to know what they're talking about. I haven't tasted the food, but it looks wonderful. It smells delicious, and everyone says it's very good. My sister is in quarantine right now because she came from another nursing home; she's not able to go down. They do bring her food up, and she's been very happy with it. Her room is clean and big enough. Her furniture fits well there, and she has a nice view outside. I've looked at several places and GreenFields is comparable or better than some of the other places that I looked at."

"We toured American House Cedarlake looking for independent living for myself and my husband followed up by possible care for my friend. I think we spent more time at the assisted living side because we were shown all the different things that they do there, all the meals that were served, and the fact that there was medical attention in the place. My friend needs that stuff more at this point than my husband or I do. The facility is very nice, clean, and welcoming. The studio apartment we saw was extremely small but the 1-bedroom is doable. We didn't go into a 2-bedroom. The person who assisted us was excellent. She explained everything more than we could even think about asking. The dining area was very large. There were several people there because we were there at lunchtime and everyone seemed to be very pleased with what they were eating. We didn't see any activities but we were shown different rooms where people would do different things. There were machines that you could use and rooms to play bingo or whatever."

"My dad is actually moving into Brookdale Lisle on Sunday. We looked at several, he picked this one, and the biggest reason is probably the location because it is near where we lived before. It is a one-bedroom apartment that he is moving into. Everyone has been nice and helpful. "

"I went to StoryPoint Romeoville. The tour is very nice. The place is very clean. People are very friendly and the price was about average with everybody else. The room is a one-bedroom with a nice kitchen, a good seating area, a big bathroom, and a couple of closets. They have laundry facilities, a screened-in porch, a bar area, and a big dining room. Each floor has seating areas if my dad wanted to get out of his room and go to a bigger area with some privacy."

"My father-in-law has been in here for at least a little over a week now. This community offers independent living and assisted living options. It is a really nice place. It is also very clean. It is a five-storey building that looks like a hotel and when you walk in, there is an elevator. There are a gazillion of activities for older people living there. They also have personalized assisted living options. So if you're in independent living and you need some assistance but you don't need the full assisted-living assistance, you can order things ala carte. My father-in-law seems to like it there and it seems like a good fit for him right now."

"I took my mother back to Lexington Square so that she could see it. She really liked it. It was a very nice community. The staff was all very pleasant and very informative. They followed up to see if we have any more questions, so I was very impressed with them. The rooms were a very nice size. We only saw one of the 1-bedroom apartments, but it was very nice and it seemed big enough. We also looked on a studio which was a good size. The dining room was very nice, and they had a nice little room towards the back of it that looks like a private area. If you want to have your family come you can arrange that, and I think it can hold 15 people. So that was very nice. They have exercise classes, like water exercise class, planned outings, and a library. One floor was the library, another floor was the workout room, and then another floor was I think the game room. It just seemed like a comfortable place. It's very clean, too. My husband made a comment that, when we walked in the front door, it was like walking into the lobby of a 5-star hotel. "

"Timbers of Shorewoods had wonderful, modern facilities and very helpful staff with a very good attitude. However, it was significantly more expensive. They had the nicest set up. "

"We toured Hearthwood Senior Living. I liked the place, but my mom needs more care than independent living. We had a fantastic tour, and that was a fantastic community, but a little expensive for my mom. She would not have been able to get the care she needed there at this time in her life. The person I met with was great. The cleanliness and the layout were great."

"Franciscan Village was very nice. It was clean and organized. They have two buildings, but they separate them into three. I saw all of them, but we took my mom for a tour only in building three. It had a very pretty chapel. It was peaceful. They were renovating the room that was available at that time, but it looked very nice. They had a salon. We saw the dining room and looked at the menu. I only met the receptionist there and I think it was Christine that showed us around. She was very helpful and very nice."

"Oak Crest and Atrium Apartments was nice. It was very clean. The rooms were clean. No real complaints. One thing though -- where they have the people with dementia -- they didn’t have a bathroom in the room (they did have one out in the hallway), but I wouldn’t be able to tell if my father would have trouble with that. It was on a Saturday, and maybe that’s not one of the better days to go on a tour; it was pretty quiet. The staff and everything was very nice and friendly. "

"We visited The Roosevelt at Salt Creek's independent living and as far as I'm concerned, the community had only one drawback and that is that they've just started and will be undergoing some renovation for a while. I was concerned that that could be a disturbance and would make it less attractive and comfortable. You don't know for sure, but that's been my experience with those kinds of things. Other than that, I would give them a high rating in just about everything, including their quarters. I liked their rooms a little bit better than any of the other places we saw. Their staff was quite friendly and knowledgeable. The layout was good and they had outdoor areas too. Their eating arrangement looked good. It looked a little bit more complicated to me than some of the other places, but it still looks like a very nice eating arrangement. The residents also have very good interaction with their staff."

"Marian Village is a very nice facility, it is clean, and the staff is very helpful. They take them out to movies, to the grocery store, to doctor’s appointments, bingo, crafts, they have people that come in to talk about politics, and they have their own chapel. The facility is run by the Catholics so she doesn’t have to go out for mass, and she is happy there. "

"Victorian Village was very beautiful, very clean, and the layout was good. The people were very nice, and the staff is attentive, concerned, and genuinely interested in the welfare of the people. There is Wii bowling, bingo, and movies, and the location is very convenient. "
