"My mom has moved into The Atrium at Oak Crest Residence. I like it so far; it seems nice. They care about their patients. My mom says it's good food and it's okay. She gets help with everything, dressing, going to the bathroom. It's really big, but you had to furnish your own bed and if she wants a TV. She doesn't have a TV in her room yet. Some people do, but she doesn't watch a whole lot as it is. I don't know if I'm going to hook up a TV or not, because they keep them busy and keep them out of their rooms all day long so that they can sleep well at night. In their activity room, there's a TV. They have a beauty salon. She got her hair done today. They do exercises and they have an activity room. They have two dining rooms, and they move them around a lot there in the activity room. They have three meals, and they have two snacks that I know of for sure per day; I think there may be a third one. They move them down to the dining room and then downstairs they have a full big bar, where they can have a glass of wine or a beer if they want. They have a bathroom down there, and a big family kitchen where people can go in and say we're going to celebrate Thanksgiving. They told me that a family cooked a whole meal, turkey and all, and they had their family there to eat. They have a big room for that and another activity room down there where I saw them playing bingo. The place is huge, it's really big. They move them around, and they don't let them just sit in one room. On Wednesdays, you can call ahead and go downstairs in the basement. It's like restaurant-style. There's a bar, a booth, and then there are tables in the middle. It's like dining in a restaurant, and we did that with her last Wednesday. My daughter and I, ate with her; that was kind of nice. The meal last Wednesday was delicious. I went back for two tours. The director said that they have their own chef that's been there a long time and that all the food is delicious. I asked my mom different things that they've had, and I asked her if she liked it, she said the food is good. The reason I went there, to begin with, was my sister-in-law's mother-in-law. They had just put her in there; she's the one that called me and said to take a look at the place. Everybody has their own room, there's no sharing a room."

"I live at Independence Village and am very happy here. The food is good, we have good activities. I love my apartment and my view is the courtyard."

"Mom has been a resident at Brookdale in Glen Ellym, IL for eight years. Absolutely every aspect of this facility is above and beyond expectations. The staff has always been very attentive and accommodating and has done a wonderful job through the pandemic keeping the residents involved, informed and motivated. Mom has nothing but high praises about the facility, the administration and staff. How wonderful to know that she is being well cared for and attended to, and how much she loves her surroundings! Five stars throughout!!"

"Brookdale has a beautiful setting. My mom is not going to be walking to the local restaurants. It was nice to look out and see a lot of pine trees. They have a pool and the buildings have several floors. Everything isn’t spread out, so to be able to take the elevator, get off right in the main area, and then be able to take it up to her room, I really like that setup. "

"I toured. I have nothing bad to say about it actually. It was beautiful. The girl that took me on the tour was just fantastic. It's really more like a resort type atmosphere. It was just fabulous. I have no complaints. It's where I was trying to get my parents to go. It was fantastic. The staff was just amazing and so nice. It felt like vacation every day there. The residents seemed happy and the staff. As she was touring, she did not encounter anyone that she didn't know what their first name was. She was fabulous. They have a gym, a salon, a gorgeous backyard with a walking track, a pond, and a nice party room if you wanted it. They had physical therapy in the lower level. It was great."

"I liked Lexington Square of Lombard. It's a multilevel facility. They had five floors, so it was a little different. Some of the other ones had one or two floors, but this one was a little bit bigger. They had a really big atrium in the middle and it was very bright and well-lit. The people kind of hang out around that area on the different floors, so I liked that about it. The dining room was very nice. It was probably one of the nicest dining rooms I saw in terms of how it looked. Their menu looked really good. They had a lot of activities. It was very clean and looked very nice. They had kind of high-end finishes on the different rooms, the hallways, and the multipurpose area. They have studios, one- and two-bedrooms. The staff was very good, very knowledgeable, and very nice. He took a lot of time to show me around. We weren't rushed at all. They have a beauty salon. They have more than one library."

"It was the one I liked. The whole place was impressive, big, and had a beautiful lobby. The person that took me around and showed me the room was a very nice, friendly lady. I had a good feeling about the place. They had bingo, cards, a ping-pong table, Wii bowling, and a pool. People came in to entertain the patients by singing or just talking. They just had everything there. They served three meals a day. You could drive to doctors if you had a car, but they also had a shuttle that took people to their doctors’ appointments, Wal-Mart, or Walgreens."

"I moved to The Roosevelt at Salt Creek. I chose it because of its location. The rooms are large and completely reconditioned. They have activities, but I haven't been yet. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. The food is very good. They keep the facilities clean. For the value, I'm thinking that I am paying a little bit more."

"American House was very nice. It was more of like an apartment community rather than a senior-living or assisted-living community. We were very impressed with the size of the apartments, and the amenities. The staff all seemed to be very helpful, and knowledgeable. They gave us the tour. They were very accommodating, and very thorough. "

"My husband and I liked The Grand Victorian of Sycamore. When we first looked there, we liked the place. It was clean. It was pleasant. We liked the rooms that they had there. They were nice and spacious. The care was there. I don't think the cost of it was that bad. It was within standard reason of the cost of any assisted living facility. The landscaping was good. Security was good. We had no complaints about it. The structure was pleasant. They had the cafeterias, eating area, and the lounging areas were nice. The decor was pleasant. It was more of like green and white color-type stuff. They had a patio out in the back and it was nice. We had a comfortable feeling when we went in there. The staff that we met was pleasant, very informative, and answered all of our questions to our satisfaction, cost wise and services available and rooms and things like that. They're extremely pleasant, and they seemed to be caring for the people that were there. It's not oversized. I don't know how many residents they have there, but it wasn't overly packed. It wasn't at a point where it was uncontrollable as far as having too many patients there. We're really satisfied with them. They had plenty of activities there for the seniors who wanted to get involved in them. The structure was very pleasant to see and be in."

"Concord Place was a hotel at one time. It was very large. The staff member that I met was friendly and professional. The apartment itself was bright and comfortable looking, but the hallways and the common areas looked very dated, old, and dark. I wouldn't put my sister in there because it's a huge facility and they had a floor for veterans. They're doing good things, but the person we were looking for is on the younger side. She's only 65, and I knew that that wasn't the place for her because it wasn't interactive enough. I knew she wouldn't be happy there. There were some people sitting in the common area, but there were no signs to me of activities going on. They had activities in their literature, but I didn't see anything. They were being very careful considering the pandemic and distance from other residents. The staff member I met followed up with me afterwards. She was very pleasant."

"We did a face-to-face tour at The Grand at Twin Lakes. It was very good. I liked it very much. I liked the small size. There are a number of independent living places in this area where I am right now, but they're so big with 800 residents, and I'm not interested in them. The lady that I talked to was excellent and did a very good job. The apartments were similar to others that I've seen. What's nice about this place is it's fairly new. It was a hotel at one time. They redid it to accommodate the independent living. They have either studio or one-bedroom apartments, and the one-bedrooms were nice. The grounds were very pretty. There was a nice outdoor area where you could sit and walk around."
