"Over all I believe the facility is pretty good. The staff was for the most part kind and corteous however there did seem to be a few individuals that looked as if they did not want to be there, but then again who among us wants to be at work.My wife's grandfather seemed to enjoy his stay there never had much of a complaint about anyone or anything in particular. The only negative things he said were along the lines of wishing he was at home which I could understand completely.I noticed that the menu for meals was rather meager and the activities could get old fast after staying there for some time. "

"South Elgin Health Center was probably the cheapest one we've seen, but it was very small and quite old, but they seem to be taking care of the facility. We had kind of a positive feeling about it in spite of the fact that it was pretty old. The one thing is we did ask Alexian Brothers to check with them, and they never answered. I don't know what their problem was. You'd think that if they couldn't take him or maybe his health issues were more severe than they could deal with, they would just say so, but they never answered, and they had put in two requests. I even emailed them twice, and I never got an answer from them either. The rooms were quite small, but they seemed clean and neat. The residents that we saw -- including the ones that were pretty far along in the dementia area -- seemed to be pretty comfortable. But I think they didn't offer as much; maybe that is why they are cheaper. They expected these families to bring in more things like if you want a TV, the family should bring in the TV or that kind of thing. They had several dining areas that looked comfortable and homelike. My daughter and I had kind of a comfortable feeling about it even though it was small and old because it kind of had this comfy feeling, but it didn't work out. They didn't have a secured dementia area. They had an area that was for the dementia patients, but it was not locked away. They couldn't actually get out of the building because they had controls on that, but they didn't have a secured dementia unit. "

" My husband has been a resident at Tower Hill for about four months. He has special needs and Tower Hill is listening to my concerns and assisted him with accommodations to improve his long-term care. He has nurses and aides that treat him with respect and dignity. The therapy department does a great job. The speech therapist has found some techniques that are making great improvements. We chose the doctor on staff and she has been extremely attentive. The restorative nurse has also been very helpful in getting residents proper equipment and making new residence transitions from home to skilled care seamless. One area they could use some improvements are the meals. My husband had been a resident of another facility after falling last year but I have found Tower Hill‘s Services to be far superior."

The Nurses And Helpers Were Jonny-On-The-Spot To Met Any Medical Needs I May Have Had And To Answer Any Questions That Concerned Me And My Wife. The House Cleaning Staff Are Simply The Best. West Court's Dinning Is First Class With Servers Eager To Help In Any Way Needed And With Food To Remember With Joy. The Activities Staff Keep Me Alert And Provided A Wonderful Place For Fellowship With Others. I Am Privelaged To Have Sherman West Court In My Health Plan. God Bless, Joe"

"My mother has moved into Avantara Elgin, and it has excellent care. They're very attentive and she seems to be adjusting very well there. They're very nice there. She seems to be happy there for now and she is comfortable. They have an exercise/ physical therapy room which is very nice. There is an outdoor area where you can bring them outside. I haven't been in the act, but you can see it because it's glass, and you can see it walking by, going to her room. I can see the exercise facility and I can see some of the staff working with some of the people there. They have bingo, painting, and a lot of drawing. They have a lot of different things that they can participate in."

"My mother is at Citadel Care Center of Elgin but I can't tell you about the inside because we're not allowed in. She is very happy, and everything is going fine, and they've been attentive to our needs. My mother is very happy and that is the main thing; she is enjoying it while she is there. Medical-wise, my sister gets all the calls, not me, so I am not sure how often they call to update, but I've talked to somebody at the staff about once every two weeks. The room is more like a hospital room than it is a studio, but it is not a hospital room. She is getting a lot of physical therapy. It is in my old neighborhood, so I've been in it many times and so I was happy with that. They have a little courtyard. I think it's been kept very well. It's easy parking and she's got a room that looks over to the outside."

"Staff is very professional yet caring and understanding. Very warm, joyful. Atmosphere gives residents hope and peace and a sense of belonging. The place is clean, smells good and well kept."

"This facility is located in a moderately safe suburban residential neighbor though it sits on a busy street. There are sidewalk paved areas that are moderately to well maintained, depending on how far into the residential area one walks. There is minimal outdoor space available for residents and families. The interior common areas are somewhat limited and not overly welcoming. Staffing patterns vary and at times it seems as if there are not enough staff to meet the needs. The quality of the food is average with some meals appearing appetizing and others not. This facility will accept residents covered by Medicaid and may also accept residents that may have a difficult time being accepted elsewhere. In those instances it could be a more desirable choice than other options. "

"I wanted to thank the staff here. Especially Lauren, Admissions. She was extremely helpful in getting my concerns and messages across to the appropriate staff. She facilitated what we needed taken care of for my mother-in-law who was there in Rehab. As a healthcare worker myself I understand the challenges COVID has made for all who have loved ones being cared for away from home. I understand the facility is under new management and from what I experienced they are doing a great job. Thank you all."

"Highland Oaks looked like a good place. Unfortunately, they did not have an opening for my mom when we visited them. I was also disappointed that they charged me a $200 application fee that they did not refund even though they did not do anything. It looked like the care was good. "

"I want to say thank you to all the staff that has been taking care of my mother Inlaw at the grove of St Charles They have been nothing but kind, patient, and understanding. She just started doing activities and she’s been happy to tell us all the prizes she has won. And when she’s in her room watching tv she tells us how the CNAs come in periodically just to see if she needs anything. she lets us know that the nurses are kind to her and she just loves the therapy department, I can’t express how happy we all are with the staff members. And she also mentioned that she has a very nice housekeeper name Diana that keeps her room clean. Thank you! "

"I spent 2 weeks here for rehab. Every nurse, aid and other staff member worked hard to take care of every patient- and were nothing but professional and kind, no matter how difficult and challenging some patients were, or when they were understaffed. They truly impressed me! Yes, sometimes the wait was long when they had an understaffed timeframe, but I cannot blame that on them. They would apologize and take care of patients by urgency as appropriate. They listened to patients and families and took care of any complaints. I made friends with many residents who told me they were satisfied living here. Many had transfered fron nearby places they were unhappy with. The food was ok, not great but not bad either- and if you did not like something that was on the menu, they had quite a few options to change your meal. I had three different rehab therapies: arms/hands, legs and visual/memory/speech. That staff was truly PHENOMENAL! They made it fun, they were sweet & their methods extremely effective. For a center that has to rely on many Medicare payments & budget cuts from IL, I have nothing but good things to say!"

"Bria has skilled nursing, and they were really wonderful to deal with; the admission staff in particular was great. It was very well-maintained. They have physical therapy, which for me is a requirement for my husband since he is disabled and he has Parkinson’s disease; he needs physical therapy. "
