"The reason we chose St. Joseph Village of Chicago is because my mom is Spanish-speaking. They have residents and staff who speak Spanish. It was a very pretty place, really nice, and very clean. The thing I liked most about it was the residents seemed very happy. So if they're happy, then I'm sure my mom would be happy. The staff member's name was Sonia, and she was just excellent, very patient, listened to all our needs and worries, and she was just very reassuring. The rooms were very spacious, up to date, and very nice. They have like a little patio."

"My mother passed away 3 years ago just a month shy of 104. I acknowledged the wonderful care my mother received during her time in Assisted Living and the Nursing home. Addolorata Villa provided excellent care, kept residents in all areas engaged. The level of care in all sections was consistent and of high quality. Some of my best memories come from special events such as the celebration of those 100 years old and over. From the quality of the food, cleanliness of rooms, the comfort level and furnishing throughout the Villa demonstrated top quality. Most important is the staff. Not only did they provide support to my mother, but to me as well. They also did not forget about my mother after she passed away. I cannot adequately describe my feelings from the card and note and remembrance in a Mass over the past few years. Thank you Leo Burns"

"My mom has been to Radford Green several times, and we like it. It’s a fabulous place. "

"In general, I think that this is a beautiful facility, obviously upscale, but in extremely good taste. There is a library and a little shopping area with candy and jewelry. There is a very nice dining area. The lobby is spacious and comfortable. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The one draw back is the parking in the back of the building, which is often full and it is hard to find parking on the street. This is definately an urban setting. Many of the patients are Holocaust survivors. The staff are very helpful and will work with the patient and the family if there are financial or other problems. The facility offers an array of activities -- opera programs, ice cream socials, current events, etc. The facility also provides religious programming and services for the mainly Jewish population. There are individual apartments where residents can live in an independent living situation. There is also continued care and nursing home facility on other floors. On the top floor is a lovely activity room with glass windows. Sometimes there is a pianist who plays music. Patients can go up and get an icecream cone or can go out on the roof patio when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend this facility. The patients that I talked to seemed happy because there are many activities that are offered. "

"I recently spent 7 weeks at Willow Crest, although I do not exactly remember my early stay. The nursing staff was excellent. Even though they were extremely busy, I felt that they took time to respond to my needs. The therapy staff was wonderful and quickly got me back on my feet (literally). The rooms were kept clean and fresh linens and ice were delivered first thing in the morning. The beds were made daily as well. The food was good and I liked the fact that I was able to choose a substitution that I preferred. There were a variety activities offered. My friends on the outside could not believe that I was involved in sing along groups but it was fun and a great way to meet people. Overall, most of the CNAs did a wonderful job. Of course, there were some bad apples, but that happens at any job. No facility is perfect, but I would highly recommend Willow Crest to those who need temporary or long term assistance."

"This may not be the newest building on the block, but the staff is very caring. They are VERY good at contacting the family anytime there is a problem or when your family member needs medical treatment. I was very pleased with the way the staff kept in touch and my uncle seemed to like the facility. There is a nice library for the residents and the surroundings are quite lovely. Other activities are available also, if the residents choose to participate."

"I was able to volunteer at Marianjoy for a summer back in high school. The staff was always very kind and helpful and I actually felt like i was doing something good rather than just getting in people's way. The building itself is very nice and organized, although sometimes it was a bit confusing navigating around if I didn't memorize a map of the place. There is also a very nice garden right outside the building for people to walk around if they feel like they have been stuck inside the building for too long. I was able to talk and meet so many people with different backgrounds and stories. One of my favorite memories was going around to different rooms and just delivering balloons to kids and children for no reason. The look on their faces always made it very worth it. There were times when I felt like I could have been doing more or had more substantial responsibilities, but as a volunteer I suppose you just do what you can and let the people with the actual jobs do the important things. Overall I enjoyed my time at Marianjoy and I am certainly comfortable with having them take care of loved ones who are close to me. "

"This is known as "the county home" to many locals, and it provides exceptionally well regarded care in DuPage County. Employees are government employees who benefit from union and related benefits. The facility is situated adjacent to other government complexes in a safe business district; the sheriff office and the courts are nearby. There is little outdoor space in comparison to the size of the facility, so few residents are seen outside. It is not possible to go for a walk easily in the nearby residential area, without going a good number of blocks down the busy road first. The interior of the facility has an institutional feel and is older, but is very clean and well maintained. The common areas are tastefully decorated and while plentiful, can be full due to the size of the facility. Rooms are of an average size with limited space for personal items, and most are shared. Lighting in the rooms from natural light is highly dependent upon what part of the facility the room is situated in. The food is above average for a facility of this size, though it is certainly not the very best that is out there. Staffing is more consistent than average with a less than average rate of turnover. Care is compassionate, kind, and generally consistent. Residency of DuPage County is an issue with admissions. "

"Winfield Woods Healthcare Center is a wonderful place. I get excellent care all the way around. I would recommend it to anybody. I rest easier knowing that my near-90 father is well taken care of and well provided for. He is in very good hands out there. The hospital is less than a mile away, so if something were to happen, he would be right there. The residents don’t seem to have any complaints with the food. His room is incredibly clean. I have never smelled anything obnoxious there. It is the cleanest place I’ve ever been in. There is a clinical psychologist there that sets up everything. My father just got released from the physical therapy end of it, so now his program will change monthly. It’s a wide array of things, depending on what your social and physical needs are. They have a huge gym there, and they have a wide array of different professional people, psychologists, and psychiatrists. They come and go from there from Central DuPage Hospital, so they have everything covered. I have not one negative thing to say about them. From the time you walk through the door to the time you leave, people recognize you and ask you if you need help finding anything. It has been a totally positive experience for me. "

"Without a doubt, I would recommend Windsor Park Manor. I was very impressed. The facility itself was beautiful, the dining area was extraordinary. The level of activity they provide for the seniors was exceptional, as well. It was relatively expensive, but they offered a lot of stuff. It was just almost too extravagant for my mother's taste. "

"West Chicago Terrace was, at least when I visited it, a fairly clean place. When one first enters the nursing home, there are no blatant odors, but rather a smiling young face to greet the visitor. Also, I don't know if it was my personal timing, but the director was there to greet me with a brochere of the facility and a short tour. This particular nursing home has 5 wings, one of which was specifically for persons with greater needs. Even this wing was clean, and had only a slight odor of urine. The food I tasted was sub-par compared to other nursing homes, but the food is not for me, of course. I only visited this facility a few times, so I didn't really get a good read on the employees, but they all seemed rather kind. The one draw back, however, was what seemed like a lack of employees. They seemed a little short handed. But given the state of things, they were doing pretty well with what they had. "

"My dad is currently in the skilled nursing building of Lexington Health Care Center of Lombard. It's across the parking lot of the independent and assisted living community. He's been there a while, and he has received very good care. I think they're nice people though I think my dad's kind of a pain to deal with. They've done a good job. He started out there in nursing rehab and technically he's still there. With insurance, they wanna kick you out after a certain number of days, but he's now accepted on Medicaid. He was being provided physical therapy to help him recover after a septic infection that diminished his ability to walk. He's kinda getting help with daily living aspects. I think he's generally pretty happy there. From what I've seen, it's clean and organized, and they have a little reception room near the front door where you can have window visits on a pre-scheduled basis. My dad does not like the food there; it's pretty much all the same with other places."

"My wife was in Beacon Hill for rehab. They were all very professional and did a perfectly good job. Her room was comfortable. The place was in very good condition. It's institutional food. It's not great food, but it's acceptable. Parking was just fine. It wasn't difficult at all. The dining area was very clean and looked fine, although my wife did not actually dine in it. She dined in her room."
