Nursing Home Communities in West Chicago, IL

"My mother was at Norwood Crossing. She went in sort of in the lowest level of care, she was living pretty independently, and they did medication checks, and then as time went on she became very ill and she unfortunately was admitted into their hospice program and passed away. Nevertheless, I cannot say enough good things about them, they were just unbelievably fabulous through every phase of my mother's time there. They're really loving, fabulous people, and I would not hesitate to recommend people look at that facility. Everybody from the cleaning people to the medical staff, the physical therapists, they were fantastic, and I'm in heathcare, so I'm a hard sell, so they were really good. My mother always had issues with the food, so she did not like the food there, and sadly she complained about it. Early on my mother had her own little apartment, which was really nice because she got to have her own furniture and even her cat. They also had a wing of nursing beds that she stayed in when she was in hospice, and that was fine. They had a whole range of activities both inside as well as outside, and they had transportation, too. For the price point it was also great."

"I went to St. Joseph Village of Chicago. The staff was very good. The only drawback of that facility is that they don't have long-term memory care. It's only short-term for memory care. From there, they send them to other facilities, so I wasn't too happy about that. That didn't fit my needs. The good thing is that if you need to stay there for a week or so or just for a short-term visit, it'll work out for you, but long-term-wise, it's not what I needed. They have a rehab center and a nice chapel. The facility itself was very clean. To get in, it's pretty secure. They have to buzz you in. It was a nice facility, and the staff was friendly."

"I like that Addolorata Villa feels like a family community. I like that the residents were out setting up some of the Christmas decorations and the chef stopped to talk to us and there was a guy who mans the gym area like he's there all day. It's just a nice feature. The staff was very friendly. It was clean. One of the drawbacks is that it's kind of spread out. The atmosphere was very pleasant. I only saw two-bedroom rooms and they looked comfortable."

"My mom was a resident of Lincolnwood Place. There were a lot of nurses there, and there was 24-hour care. For her level, she was so ill. She needs a lot of medical care. The food was really good. There was a doctor on staff, there was a nurse practitioner, there were nurses, and lots of caregivers. The caregivers were great, and it's just a beautiful place. It was very clean. They prepare the food fresh every day. It was just good food because I sat with her, for lunch, for dinner and it was good food. They also had different choices, which was nice. They have rooms and then they have the nurse's station, and then they have like, a little area where you can visit. Also, they have a beautiful garden where you can stay outside and get fresh air and sunshine. They had activities every day. They had board games, they had a lot of music, and they had musicians coming in. In the other section, I saw people coming and going on their own, but my mom needed a lot of care. The nice thing is that if you live there, they have this transportation bus. They would take you from town, like shopping to the mall. It's not cheap though. It's pretty pricey, but compared to a lot of senior facilities I went to, some were so depressing. They were dark and gloomy, and very depressing, but this one, it's bright and cheerful and it's a newer facility."

"I toured Marian Village. They were a little less expensive, but the place itself just seemed so vibrant, alive, energetic, and bright. The place seemed very new and very updated. When you walked in, you were welcomed by the person at the front desk. The price, I think we could handle. The tough part is they require an entrance fee of $90,000. I have noticed reviews that are not too high, but when I did the tour, they had like a little bistro, and some residents were having omelets and things like that, and the food smelled amazing. They have a lot of events. They had a nice exercise room. They had laundry on each floor and seemed to have more dining areas. They give 400 points per month, and each point is equal to a dollar. You can use those points in the cafeteria or the dining area, and they don't carry over to the next month. They kind of give you an allotment, and then if you go over that, you start to pay. Mary Beth gave me the tour. She knew all the residents. She's very good and very thorough. Everything was so clean. There wasn't a spot on the carpeting. There wasn't a whole lot of carpeting. There was more of the vinyl plank flooring type of things. The dining room was set for dinner, and they had cloth napkins, glasses, and silverware. Everything seemed to be clean. Throughout the whole tour inside the rooms, in the laundry rooms, or the dining area, there was no stale odor or anything like that as you toured it. It was very clean, not like bleach clean or anything like that. It was just a fresh, clean environment."

"I have briefly visited other nursing homes and assisted living facilities and I think this is one of the best. My mother visits almost every day, though, and I know that's one way to make sure that your relatives are well taken care of...The staff is always friendly and willing to make accommodations in the residents' schedules for visitors. For all residents, both those on the 8th floor (mainly dementia patients, some rehab) and on the lower floors (mainly in their own apartments with mini-kitchens), there are daily activities. For those who are mobile, there are frequent outings. Book club, story groups, bingo, exercise, ice cream socials...there's also a beautiful roof deck and indoor sitting area on the top floor with many couches and large windows overlooking Lake Michigan. Most residents dine together and food seems decent downstairs from what I've seen. The food on the 8th floor is pretty basic cafeteria style food, not so good. "

"Lake Forest is great, it's a buy-in, it's expensive, and the people there are mostly local people. The staff took me around, and I've gone to a couple of their functions -- which were wonderful. They have a swimming pool, and many people would come in and speak there. The dining area was newly remodeled, it's very nice, and the food was very good."

"My mother and father moved to independent living at Windsor Park in 2018. They moved to assisted living, when dad’s health declined, in 2022. When dad passed away, in 2023, they managed to move mom back to independent living within four days, using the preplanned moving service that packed and unpacked for her. All three apartments have been beautiful and exactly what she wanted. She has established friendships that have been crucial for support during her grieving process. She wears a call button around her neck that will bring assistance to her, should she need it. The response time was very short, as she learned when it was accidentally pressed while playing bingo. The dining room and separate grill restaurant are exquisite, serving everything from gourmet food to a hotdog with chips. We have dined with her on several occasions and enjoyed the food and ambiance. In addition to art class, exercise class, Bible study, and bingo, mom has attended grief support group and the parties they throw for any reason anyone can come up with. I have only nice things to say about Windsor Park. I sleep well at night, knowing my mom is living her best life, in a great place. Priceless!"

"I have an older brother who is being cared for at this facility (Wheaton Care Center) . Although not the newest facility, it shows it age very well in the neighborhood surrounding it. I found the facility to be Very Clean and even smelling good the day I visited. High praise goes out to the Administrator (David) who took the time to meet with me even though I came long distance without an appointment. I found the staff to be alert and friendly to my needs and that of the patients as well. Special thanks to my brothers nursing staff, you know who you are. Thanks a bunch. "This is known as "the county home" to many locals, and it provides exceptionally well regarded care in DuPage County. Employees are government employees who benefit from union and related benefits. The facility is situated adjacent to other government complexes in a safe business district; the sheriff office and the courts are nearby. There is little outdoor space in comparison to the size of the facility, so few residents are seen outside. It is not possible to go for a walk easily in the nearby residential area, without going a good number of blocks down the busy road first. The interior of the facility has an institutional feel and is older, but is very clean and well maintained. The common areas are tastefully decorated and while plentiful, can be full due to the size of the facility. Rooms are of an average size with limited space for personal items, and most are shared. Lighting in the rooms from natural light is highly dependent upon what part of the facility the room is situated in. The food is above average for a facility of this size, though it is certainly not the very best that is out there. Staffing is more consistent than average with a less than average rate of turnover. Care is compassionate, kind, and generally consistent. Residency of DuPage County is an issue with admissions. "

"The staff are so caring and attentive. The nursing staff in particular are exceptionally competent and very aware of everything that is needed. The aids are cheerful and not at all afraid to help out. Nothing is a problem and gets tended too as soon as possible. The rooms are large and comfortable. Everything that you might possibly need is available. I cannot recommend Wynscape more. I have been here twice and both experiences were truly lovely."

"To anyone with a loved one in need of care, THIS is the place to choose! The physical therapy staff are miracle workers offering stellar service to all! Enormous kudos and standing ovation to the entire staff for their strict and SUCCESSFUL fight against covid as well. My husband was just released after learning how to walk (after having been told he'd never walk again) thanks to the angels of physical therapy! I never once worried about his being in AVR, even tho he was there thru the worst days of the pandemic, due to their vigilant and strict adherence to covid guidelines. They even provide personal updates via phone calls at regular intervals to keep you aware of conditions. It certainly set my mind at ease! Many of the nursing care staff will always remain in our hearts for their kindness and professionalism. I have no affiliation with AVR -- other than as a very grateful and satisfied spouse. Thank you all for all you have done! And continue to do for others!"

"I had alot experiences with this facility. My grandfather lived in this facility for a few years, before he passed. The staff always seemed to be friendly, and they took great care of the residents. I never once saw someone being rude, or acting bad toward any of the residents. The building was very nice, and all of the top of the line amenities. Everytime I talked to my grandfather, he always had good things to say about the place. The only thing that was bad about the place, was the food. I ate there quite a few times, and the food was not very good any of the times. I know my grandfather didn't mind it, but he isn't picky when it comes to food. If I had to give this place an overall rating on a scale of one to ten, I would give them an 8, because of the fact that the food wasn't too great. I hope that when I get older, that I can live in a place this nice, because it was rather wonderful there. They always had fresh flowers everywhere, and they had birds in cages around the lounge area, it was really nice. "

"My sister is a current resident. All I can say is that the staff has been wonderful. Things are never going to be perfect, but they are trying to help my sister. The staff is caring and attentive. When I visit, even on a weekend, all of the residents look clean and well groomed. My sisters case is a difficult one, but they are really making the best effort to treat her well and assist her. There may be glitches in the process, but the most important thing is staff is kind and understanding. "
