I had never planned to have to put a parent in a nursing home and it was one of the most difficult decisions I have had to make. I feel Heritage Health was an excellent choice. It was so hard to leave her there the first night, the staff assured me she would be well taken care of. I believe she had excellent care. The staff is well trained in geriatric care and the majority of them are long time staff. They do not hire registry nurses, their staff are happy to pick up extra days to make sure shifts are covered. It is evident that they truly care about their patients. The facility offers physical and occupational therapy and is quick to get these approved as soon as they feel the resident can benefit from these activities. The rooms are certainly adequate for someone who is no longer able to be on her own. I was impressed at the cleanliness of this facility. They have many parties and social activities to all who are able to attend. My Mom was not a joiner but was encouraged to attend and I was able to see pictures taken of her at some events with a big smile on her face. One of the biggest positives I found is the staff really do know their residents. They were always willing to answer questions and assure me Mom was fine. Greg is a hands on administrator. I have seen him do whatever it takes to run his facility and happy to do his job. Losing my Mom was horrible but I can't thank the staff enough for being so present not only while she was there during her good days and bad but also as we entered Hospice and after losing her. I would definitely recommend this facility.

I did a tour of Heritage Health Elgin and it looked nice. The only thing I didn't like about that was, there were two people in a room, but there was a doorway on each side of the bathroom. So, four people share that toilet. That blew me right there because sometimes my mom has to sit for a while. I'm thinking four people for one toilet, that's not going to work for my mom. That's all there was, a toilet and sink. They had shower rooms that they took them to for showers. They had an exercise room. It was nice and clean. The only people that have a private room are if you're in hospice and if you're quarantined like when they have a disease and it's catching or something. That's the only way you have a private room. I've seen the dining room, but they don't have much to take them outside. She mentioned that they do bingo. I wouldn't know how many rooms were there, I just didn't see. I asked them and they said we can take them outside on the other side of the building, but I looked when I left, and I didn't see any place.

smells great when you walk in. you can see that the place is very clean and the floors are well kept. I came to visit my mother in law who has been there for a short time now, and I was very impressed. the staff takes pride in the patients that are there, they all taken care of and look happy. the activity department is great. there was a gentleman singing and the patient just had a great time. The nurses were prompt when we asked for help with mom and the CNA was a delight. I would send anyone to this home becuase they treat you and your loved one as family.

I have been going to Heritage Health for the past six years. My father in law was there from 2010 till 2012. He had dementia and congestive heart failure. The staff at Heritage fulfilled all his needs, medically and socially. Because he received such good care, I brought my mother to Heritage. She has Alzheimer’s Disease. All the staff have been very professional, caring and understanding. My mother is very well taken care of. Five stars from the state and five stars from me.

I found my mom a really good place at Heritage Health. The grounds are nice. They have a little courtyard patio, and it's very clean. The nurses are very caring. They make sure everybody participates in their activities. My mom has shown great improvement since she has been there, and she has gained 10 lbs. now. When I first took her there, I didn’t know what was going to happen. I was scared, but now she is coming around and she is fine. I am very happy with the place. They do an excellent care with their laundry. They have some activities, like bingo, and they have church services. I went in there the other day and they were doing manicures for the ladies.

Make sure to not visit on a birthday to see the real way things are done there. We got sold because we saw a birthday. Patients are allowed to wander the halls and go into anyone's room. My mother's glasses were stolen by another patient. My mom was not able to sit up on her own and they left her sitting slumped over in her chair with her chin on her knees from when they put her in the tv room (and she could not see) until my sister and I got there in the early afternoon. They were not checking if she could swallow and I found her with food in her mouth that she could not swallow. She had an exception DNR-do not resuscitate if to do so would mean she was kept alive with machines. The administrators told us about doing this. Yet, when my mom passed they did not do anything to attempt to revive her-all they saw was the DNR. Now, some of the people there were wonderful-her physical therapist cried when she found out that my mom had died. Otherwise, I would never recommend this nursing home.
