"I love the grounds at Crossroads. It was really pretty. The price was higher, but they said that you could get a voucher from the VA, and they would help you do that. They have transportation services to go back and forth to their doctors or to the stores, if the resident is capable."

"My mom is at Wauconda Healthcare and Rehab. It is fine. The staff is great. The place is clean. They got through COVID with no deaths, which is good. They have a gymnasium. My mom likes the fact that she can go out there and work out if she wants to. You can also choose to eat food in the dining hall or have your food brought to you. Every night they have activities. They also have a salon."

"At Hearthstone, my mother has been getting very good care. The staff is friendly. It is clean. They have good meals. Overall, it is working out well. Regarding activities, I'm a little disappointed there. They play a lot of bingo, but I wish they would have more variety for her. We picked this place because it is close to my home, and I had a retired friend who was there. It is clean, and the staff is very attentive; those are two important things. As for the rooms, the room my mom is in is very nice. It is a private room with a private bath. It has nice carpeting, clean paint, and a sunny window. "

"My mother was in the same facility back in 2006 when she first began her end of life decline. At the time the facility was being renovated. When we were given a list of facilities to choose from for my spouse, I quickly chose Alden. The name had changed from the prior time, but I knew where the facility was and it would be easy for out of town friends and relatives to find it. The staff was great. They all went out of their way to assist my husband and I with everything. They encouraged him to push himself to do things. Without the staff's encouragement, he would have just sat on the bed and watched TV all day. The facility was very clean. I spent a lot of time there and the place never had that "old people" smell to it. The grounds were beatutiful. As the weather got warmer the staff encouraged my husband to go outside more. They encouraged him to be part of life not just watch it pass him by. Our grandchildren enjoyed coming so that they could go with "Papa" to the ice cream shop that was down the hall from his room. Outside the ice cream shop was a large bird cage. Even I could stand there half the afternoon and watch the birds. All lf the staff was friendly and outgoing. They tended to the needs of the residence as quickly and respectfully as possible. The place was vastly improved over the facility that my mother stayed at. And I thought it was good back then. "

"I liked Valley Hi, but it was too large. From what I saw, the staff was OK. They are very helpful. They answered any and all of my questions. They have the standard activities. The dining room seemed fine. Sanitation is good as well. I would recommend this facility to others. "

"When I first walked into Rosewood Care Center, I was struck by how well-maintained the facility seemed to be. As I proceeded with my tour, this thought was confirmed. The facility itself is beautiful. The rooms were spacious and appeared customizable to make each resident feel more at home. The staff that I talked to seemed to be friendly and knowledgeable. The physical and occupational therapy room was very large and had a lot of equipment that would suit a variety of needs. They even had a dog in there, at that time, to bring some joy to some of the residents. The only negative that I saw during this trip was the overall layout of the building. The hallways seemed to intertwine and I found myself feeling lost on a number of occasions. As their clientele includes a lot of residents with dementia and Alzheimer's, it may be difficult for them to confidently navigate throughout the building. "

"I can't say enough good things about this nursing home. My father was a resident there for 6 1/2 years and throughout the time they took SUCH great care of him. We had taken him to a couple of other nursing homes and the atmosphere/care given to him just weren't cutting it. My father passed away last week and up until the very end they made sure everything was as it should be for him as well as those of us visiting. The staff there truly cares about their residents and my family is so grateful for the compassion and caring they showed to my father. "

"This facility is located in a moderately safe suburban residential neighbor though it sits on a busy street. There are sidewalk paved areas that are moderately to well maintained, depending on how far into the residential area one walks. There is minimal outdoor space available for residents and families. The interior common areas are somewhat limited and not overly welcoming. Staffing patterns vary and at times it seems as if there are not enough staff to meet the needs. The quality of the food is average with some meals appearing appetizing and others not. This facility will accept residents covered by Medicaid and may also accept residents that may have a difficult time being accepted elsewhere. In those instances it could be a more desirable choice than other options. "

"My mother has moved into Avantara Elgin, and it has excellent care. They're very attentive and she seems to be adjusting very well there. They're very nice there. She seems to be happy there for now and she is comfortable. They have an exercise/ physical therapy room which is very nice. There is an outdoor area where you can bring them outside. I haven't been in the act, but you can see it because it's glass, and you can see it walking by, going to her room. I can see the exercise facility and I can see some of the staff working with some of the people there. They have bingo, painting, and a lot of drawing. They have a lot of different things that they can participate in."

"My mom is at Sherman West Court right now. It is nice, clean, and friendly enough. I am okay with them; they are taking care of her for rehab, but she will only be there for a short time. I wish they would keep her for much longer, but unfortunately they are strictly private pay, it is not really a long term care facility, and Medicare is not going to pay for it much longer. "

"My dad is at ManorCare right now in Elgin, but I would like to get something that has a little more social activity. They don't really have anything. It is more of a nursing home. I would say they are very nice. They seem to be caring, but there are not enough activities for him. There are just not enough family spaces. There is only one family space. It is so like a nursing home. The reason why I picked it is because of how they took me everywhere and how they treated me. They were so nice. They were willing to meet with me anytime I wanted to talk about anything. They have a really good rehab for his legs. Everybody was very nice. I would say they need to improve on activities to keep them busy. "
