Independent Living Communities in Shorewood, IL

"Sunnymere is very nice, it's the one my daughter is leaning towards, and I'm leaning towards it in a lot of areas too. It's very close to my home. In some ways, it's smaller. They have fewer residents, and my sister doesn't like the big, busy, lots of people around ideas, so, I think she would go for the idea that it's smaller. They do have a couple of floors, so there's stairs or elevator to get where you're going. It's an older place, but that's part of its charm, too, that's part of its history. For somebody that likes the old things, the antique things. The rooms are adequate. It's not as fancy, it's very plain, but I think it's very adequate. The staff is good here, they were calling residents by name. I did see more of the activities. I was there on a Friday, and they were having a happy hour. I talked with several of the residents, and they were all very pleased with where they were living, and the things that were going on. The one that I was looking at had the advantage of a 2-room suite. The one thing I didn't like about it is that all of their units were single, and then two units would share a bathroom and toilet area. They do have some suites where it's two rooms, and I thought that would suit my sister better. She's got her own toilet, and she doesn't have to share with somebody, but the toilet area is the communication between the two rooms; there's not a separate doorway to get into the other room so that I didn't like, but it's workable. With them, you don't have a private shower in the room. So that was another down, but the apartment that I'm looking at for my sister there is just across the hall from the shower room, so she wouldn't have to go far. The staff, I saw them did what they were there to be doing, and they did well. As far as I can tell with the care that the people were getting, everybody seemed satisfied. Nobody was saying, "Oh, don't bring your sister here, or she wouldn't like it." Everybody seemed happy."

"As A Rehabilitation Specialist, I had the pleasure of assisting my students in a internship that lasted a few months. Upon entering you cant help but notice the cleanliness and professionalism of the staff. Franciscsan Village also showed exemplary performance in the area of activities that involved the residents and kept them fully attentive throughtout all programs. Francisan Village also has plenty of activities geared toward alzheimer patients that helps them with memory recognition and everyday living. One of the most troubling situations I have known over the years with nursing homes were how soon residents were taken care of after acccidents. Franciscan Village has a response team that seem to respond immediately to all acccidental situtation. that required attention such as clean ups etc. Overall in conclusion I would have to say anyone who may be looking for a nursing home and assisted living in the Lemont ,Ill area Franciscan Village comes highly recomendded and suggested to visit first before all others. "Jennings Terrace was more like a nursing facility. The apartments were two rooms, a bedroom, and a small living room. There's a community shower, and that was unacceptable. The facility was nice. They provide three meals a day because these guys need assistance. I don't need the assisted living aspect of the apartment I'm looking for. The community shower is a turnoff to me. They were having lunch when I got there and everybody seemed very cordial, enjoying themselves. The problem is it's way too small. We couldn't even get one-tenth of our furniture in the place. If a person needed assisted living, I would recommend a place such as this. Everything was up to par as far as cleanliness and cordialness. It was just the size of the apartment and the apartment arrangement, too small a bedroom and living area. They have a medical facility attached to the place. They have common areas, and they're very clean and cordial. If I was by myself needing medical attention and needed assistance, I probably would have no problem living there. They've got a nondenominational religious chapel. They had room to play cards, just to socialize. They had a main dining room. Everybody seemed comfortable and I don't think there's any problem with the facility except it's not what I'm looking for."

"I had a one-bedroom unit apartment in Victorian Village with a kitchenette, a huge closet, and a bath. I was able to stay there and could visit my husband in the rehab unit. The staff was absolutely outstanding. I was spoiled. It was an absolutely beautiful community with excellent home-cooked food. "

"At Independence Village of Naperville, their prices and their lifetime rate guarantee were phenomenal. It was family-owned, it was very clean, and the residents looked happy. I took a tour through the whole building, so I saw some apartments, the dining room, the activity room, and the courtyard. I saw everything. I also saw a beauty shop. I have tried their food, and it was good. I talked to the residents and they enjoyed living there. They liked the food and the activities. The staff was very knowledgeable and very interactive with my dad. The place was very clean. It didn't smell like a nursing home or anything."

"I have moved my father in. It is very clean. The staff is very friendly and very efficient. They’re very upbeat. The place is very eye-appealing. Food is excellent. "

"I went to tour Monarch Landing. It's very big and very lovely. I would like to live there, but it's expensive. The prices of the apartment are expensive. The apartments are very large, and everything is included as well. They have one meal a day. They supply appliances. The only thing they don't supply is the furniture. The appliances are top-of-the-line. The staff who took me around was very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. They gave us lunch and the food was very good. They have a very beautiful pool. They have lots of property. There's a wooded area. It's a very lovely place if you can afford it."

"I went to Hanover Place four months ago. It's only a block away from us. It was very nice, my uncle was there for ten years before he passed away a year ago. He was very satisfied with the facilities and what they had to offer, and he loved it there. His apartment was very nice. He had a one-bedroom apartment, a bath, a kitchen, and a living room. He thoroughly enjoyed it. He had an exercise room there where he was capable of exercising. He went downstairs to visit the people who lived there. They had a little conversational area where you can go down and have coffee and talk to people, and that he loved. He said the food was all right. The staff was very, very kind and very caring, and very nice. I always felt that way when I went there to see him, they were very accommodating and they were very nice, very polite. They had a big garden in the back. You went out and they had a nice garden with flowers and stuff, and a big patio where you could sit out there. It's very, very clean, spotless. The activities were great. There was a big area for a movie theater there, they had a library, and they had an exercise room there. Everything was nice. It was very nice to live there. I would live there. I already told my uncle if that's where I was going to end up that I would want to live there."

"Tinley Court was nice. What I didn't like about it is that they didn't offer places with kitchens in it. I can get used to not having to cook, but if I want to do something for myself, then I can't do it. The person who took me around was very nice. They have a full menu, and they change the menu every week. They keep the place clean. They had one-bedroom apartments. It was nice, but it wasn't for me. There were no kitchen facilities available or anything like that. They had an area out front, and people were sitting there when I came in and took the tour. She said there was another one out there, so you can also sit outside. They have scheduled activities all the time. They always offer something. They have a community room where you can go and play games with other people and stuff like that."

"I liked the comprehensive services available from every stage of care for life at The Holmstad. There are extensive facilities available to keep them as interested and busy as much as they want to participate in a good quality of life. It was one of the best places close to my home. They remodel every room before the resident moves in so it was like moving in to a brand new place for my mom. "

"I toured GreenFields Geneva. I very much like the atmosphere there. It's very home-like and very well-kept. The residents that I encountered were all so pleased to be there. They felt that things were handled very well during the pandemic. The ones that I talked to didn't feel that they had been closed off from others, and yet they were protected. They provided them with food and took them to their apartments. Even though they were in their apartments and not going out and mixing, they had some musical groups that came. They also played outside in different areas of the buildings. They just kept people involved in things. I talked to quite a few residents (because I was there a few different days) and I got good feedback from them about the place. The residents told me that they thought that the food was pretty good. I saw their two-bedroom apartments. They had them laid out with the two bedrooms on either side of the apartment with the living room in the middle. All the amenities for the kitchen were in there. I was told when you move in that they're in the process of replacing all of the appliances. They are doing all that they can to allow you the opportunity to move into a well-maintained apartment. From my perspective, I like having that kind of a smaller living place that's not quite so institutional feeling. The food was excellent, too. "

"I toured the Victory Centre of Sierra Ridge. The place was nice. It's just that the studios were too small. The staff was very good. The area that I went in, the laundry room, was clean, so the building seemed to be well-kept. The atmosphere was warm and very friendly."

"My aunt has been in Cantata Adult Life Services for a year now. She's getting very good care, and we're very happy with the staff. They've been very good to her, and it's been a good experience for her so far. The appearance is great. It's always very clean. If the light bulb burns out, they fix it right away. They've been very good about its upkeep. The people are always very nice, and she likes it there. The only complaint in the last six months was they ran out of bacon one day. They've got a doctor there, and they're very good about answering my questions. I would recommend it to anyone."
