"Marian Village seems like a very good value; a lot is included. This one is run by the Franciscan Community. It's got everything we wanted for mom, especially the washer and dryer in the unit. She doesn't have to walk down the hall, and find out that the washers and dryers are busy and go back to her room. It was a good selling point there. Everything was nice and clean. All the meals were included. She's happy about having a bank onsite, a beauty shop, and a beauty salon there. The elevators and everything are more conveniently placed, and it is easier to move around than some other places. Everything was pretty straightforward. I toured the place first, and then my sister and I took my mom another time to check everything over again. They had a unit that would just be perfect for her. It was a 1-bedroom with a small bedroom/den so you could use it as a small bedroom or as a den. It was perfect. The unit she'll be moving into is close to the elevators, which is great for her. We found that some of the other places charge more the closer you were to the elevators. It was nice that they didn't charge more just because you were closer to the elevators. They have nice safety features and everything. It was important for her to be at a community where there was a church or a chapel. She's going into an independent living apartment, but there is always an ala carte menu. Just in case she likes a little help, maybe with dressing every day or showers every day. You can order that separately. Once we find that she need more services than we realized, she gets the first choice of moving into the wing where it's assisted living rather than someone who's just coming from the outside. She would already be a resident there, so she would get first choice. So overall, it would work perfectly for us. She gets all the safety measures, and she would be wearing a bracelet. If something happened, she could push the button. They would come running to help her. There's also some kind of monitor in the middle of the apartment, so if there was no movement after a while they would check on her. We saw the residents there, and everyone was friendly. I talked to many residents there on my visits asking them how they liked it, and they all loved it in every way. So that's really nice. We feel really comfortable about that. Their facility sits back farther from Route 7. They own a lot of land, so they could still expand even more. They have the option of building more as they need. My husband and I decided that if the day comes, we would love to live there. They have a cottage. They have garden homes for couples or people who still want to manage their own home with their car and garage. You could live in an apartment where you don't ever have to walk outside. They told us that if we would like to sit in the dining room and eat at some point with our mom, we could call and set a time so that they could have us come in there."

"My mom was in rehab at Franciscan Village. She's in the rehab building, where she shares a room with someone. It's a little more confusing. They're building now where all the elevators are a little further away; and I know my mom would have had a harder time taking one elevator here another one there. It's a little older. Things were really quiet that day during the tour (maybe it was because of the time of day that all the residents were more in their rooms). They have a lot of property too. It's very peaceful out there, and it's nice. It was a little bit more confusing trying to figure out. My mom's 84. I don't know if she'd ever find her way. I know they seem to charge a little more for those units that are closer to the elevators."

"I would say it is excellent. The layout is very conducive to my mom having to use a wheelchair and needing assistance at times. The care that I've observed is excellent. The staff is extremely friendly, kind, and willing to go out of their way to help. My mom reports that the food is delicious and she has no complaints or concerns. She's in their assisted living and she has used the salon. The woman there was very helpful and accommodating. She even stayed longer to give my mom a haircut so we appreciate that she worked around my mom's schedule. I think it's a wonderful community for someone that needs assistance. It also offers various levels of care. My mom is highly functional, so she doesn't require as much assistance but knowing that somebody is there when she needs assistance is comforting."

"A friend of mine had been living here in Tinley Court for a couple of years now before I came in here, so I've been here to see her. I liked it, and she is happy here and well taken care of. It's only been a few months since I moved in. They got different size rooms. I got a studio room apartment, but it's quite large, and it's got everything I need. The dining room serve excellent, well cooked food -- three meals a day. They also have things going on, like bingo, bunkle, and all kinds of things going on. It's up to the person moving in what they choose to do. My room has got everything I need, and it's all carpeted. The staff are all very friendly. I guess local people work here and live here. It's a very nice place to be. That's what attracted me to it besides my friend living here for a couple of years. I'm very happy here. They're nice people. I'm left on my own because I'm capable of being on my own, but if I needed help, I can get it. They feed me well, and the food is excellent. The housekeeping comes in and clean my floors, and I just take care of the bed. It's a very nice place. I've worked in an assisted living home for years in the front office, so I know how they can be and how they should be run. I've seen other parts of the building too where they have people that need more care, and it seems like they're well taken care of. "

"Hanover Place was the place I wanted to live. It was very clean and pleasing to the eyes. The common areas where people sit, chat, read a book, or whatever were very clean. The apartment itself was very nice. I liked the layout, and the room sizes were good compared to other place we saw. I liked it. The staff answered all of the questions we asked, gave me materials to read, and were very accommodating. The dining and serving areas were very clean and spacious enough. They had activities every day that I could participate in if I wanted. If I did not, I could just stay in the apartment. "

"I moved my mom back home from Florida and was amazed with StoryPoint Memorycare. What a difference from where she was at in Florida. She has a corner room that I just love. She has made friends and is happy. StoryPoint does activities and I know they are trying to do even more and they go on trips. Yes, they take road trips. Bless their hearts. Can't please everyone but they sure do try, no place is perfect. I'm so glad to have my mom back home. "

"Solstice Senior Living at Joliet is really nice because I'd been here like three or four times before I actually moved in, and they showed me around. Every time we come, the people here are very friendly and say hi and everything like that. It seems like a really nice community, so I like it. The room I have is really nice. It's got a balcony, and I have a nice view out the window. I like it. It's like moving into your own apartment. It is totally independent because there's one of those hotel-sized refrigerators. They said that if you want to bring in your own refrigerator, you can. They said small appliances are okay. However, you can't bring in a stove because you get your meals here three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All you have to do is go down to the dining room. If you don't feel like going down there, you can order your food, and they'll put it in a package for you to bring up to your room. They will personally deliver the food to your rooms, but that's only three times in a month that they would do that. Other than that, you can go downstairs, or you can just call and go pick it up. The dining room is beautiful. My son said it makes them think of a cruise ship. The marketing lady, when we were talking about this, said that's the way it is styled. She said if you were to look at the whole building from up high, it is fashioned like a cruise ship. My room is on the second floor. They have balconies, so you can look down directly into the dining room, and it kind of gives you that openness. It's not like you feel like you're closed in. The dining room is so big, and it has that openness to it, so it makes you feel comfortable. They have different-sized rooms. It's really nice. There is a housekeeper who comes every Thursday, and she is really nice. The whole staff is really nice. The place is clean. It's unbelievable. When we were walking around, I noticed this special scent going throughout the building. It smelled like flowers. My daughter-in-law has a sensitive nose to perfumes and stuff, and she said this did not bother her. She said it was pleasant, and she liked it. They have a library, which is down the hall from me. They have a pool table, game tables, puzzles, and they give you a calendar for the month, and it tells you what they're doing that day. Most of the time, it's at least three or four or five different things that they're doing. They have a bus, that if you want to go shopping, they'll take you shopping. They will take you to doctors' appointments. There are several stores that they will take you to. The only thing they don't provide is Wi-Fi. They give you one of those call buttons that you wear around your neck, so if you have any problems that you need emergency help, you can push the button. That's included in the amount you pay. They give each resident one of these. If you press it, it alerts the main desks. The bathroom is a walk-in. Mine has a little lift that you can just walk into the tub. It has bars on the walls for safety. That's important to me. They also have a handheld shower thing."

"Brookdale Lisle was a larger facility with friendly people and nice amenities. It was not a high-rise community, so the grounds and apartments were very nice. I liked everything about it. They had a very nice restaurant, too. This place was a little fancy, like a hotel. The residents seemed happy. "

"After living at StoryPoint as an independent resident for over 2 years, Mom needed to move to Memory Care. The Memory Care unit is small and well-staffed. The staff are excellent, very helpful and capable. They know how to work with residents with dementia and other needs. It is difficult work. The staff are dedicated. I am so grateful to them. That includes the front desk, facilities, and administrative staff, too. StoryPoint is the best place for my mom. "

"We were pretty impressed with Brookdale Glen Ellyn in terms of its physical setup and the attitudes of the residents and staff. We felt that it would be a good fit for us. We liked the apartment which was a two-bedroom. They offer things like housekeeping and food services, the usual stuff. I saw their dining room. They also have what they call a bistro. The community was well laid out, clean, and they have different things that we thought were pretty nice, like the beauty shop and hobby room."
