"This is the 3rd year that my parents have been in Marian Village and it's been wonderful. They're in a 2-bedroom apartment, it's very nice, and with a deck. The staff was just wonderful and very attentive. My mom has a caregiver that comes in the morning and helps to get ready for the day and a caregiver that comes in the evening and helps her get ready for bed. They're independent living but they have assisted care. The only problem is that they don't have memory care there. They are hoping to someday have memory care, but they do not have it at the moment. The food is wonderful, they're always changing their menu, and there are several options. It's delicious. My sisters and I have gone down to dinner with my parents and the dining room is very nice. It's clean and bright, and you feel like you're in a restaurant and not a retirement community. They have a gym with a nutritionist and a physical therapist that works with the people that live there. There's exercise and they teach them what they need to do to keep moving. They also have Nintendo bowling games and bean bags. Every month, they have birthday parties for whoever is born in that month. Aside from all those activities, they have some entertainment there as well. The chapel is also there and my parents enjoy that they can go to mass instead of leaving the building because it's right there."

"We have selected a place to move to. The top of our list is Franciscan Village. We are moving to what they call a garden home half a block away from the main building, so it's just a short walk. In the main building, they have a large dining room, a snack bar, workout facilities, and a library. We are able to live independent with a 2-bedroom apartment. It's what we were looking for. The staff bends over backwards to take care of you. Franciscan Village is a Catholic community. They have their own chapel, and along with that, they do have some of the nuns living right there near the people so they can associate with each other. I find that very relaxing. They're pretty filled up with activities for everybody. "

"We visited for a tour. The young lady that we spoke with was actually very good, and we really enjoyed our visit with her. The facility was nice, but it just was not for my mom. It was very clean."

"The rooms at Victory Centre of South Chicago were very nice, clean, and had a nice view. The heat was ample. They had a ping-pong table, a pool table, games, television, and stretching exercises. The food was ample and scheduled, but you can always have soup or something else, and that was readily available for eight to 10 hours. The staff was excellent in explaining everything."

"StoryPoint is a very unique Assisted Living facility. They offer many activities both on and off site giving residents the opportunity to be as active as they choose. My favorite activity is the live entertainment each week. The food is great with a wide variety of choices every week and, the chef is always open to ideas keeping the menu interesting and diverse. The staff members are constantly looking out for their residents caring for them like they are family. I sleep well at night knowing my mother is well cared for just like I would do myself. In addition, staff members are very accessible and responsive to any questions or requests from residents and family. I love that they offer monthly support group and family touch bases. I highly recommend StoryPoint to those that are looking for an active Assisted Living community. This is definitely a 5 star facility!"

"I moved to The Roosevelt at Salt Creek. I chose it because of its location. The rooms are large and completely reconditioned. They have activities, but I haven't been yet. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. The food is very good. They keep the facilities clean. For the value, I'm thinking that I am paying a little bit more."

"We got to visit American House Cedarlake. The tour was very informative. The girl who gave us the tour was very helpful. She even recommended that we personally check with the VA to see if my dad is eligible for VA assistance. The room we saw was quite spacious. We looked at the bigger of the one-bedroom studios where they had a wall that divides the living room and the bedroom. It was good because I figured he could fit in there easily. They have underground parking there, so my father can bring his vehicle, and they also have a woodworking shop that he's interested in doing. We are leaning more toward this place because of these two things."

"They’ve been great to my dad at Timbers of Shorewood. The nursing staff has been very attentive and the communication is great. There are a lot of activities to participate in. The food is really good. The dining area is set up very nicely, and he likes to sit by the window. I am most impressed by the amount and diverse types of activities that they have, so it’s nice that there’s something for everybody. "

"We are going to move to Lexington. It's a lovely, friendly place, and it seems like it's going to work very well. The staff we met was wonderful. The apartment we got is a two-bedroom, two-bath, with kitchen and living room. The price is within our budget."

"Independence Village of Naperville was a nice place. They were very friendly and they provide three meals a day. It's the one-bedroom that I looked at, and it was very nice and a pretty good size. It had an individual bedroom and a kitchen, and a nice closet space. They had a beautiful dining room, they they have what they call "the great room," a library, and a laundry room. I think it was a wonderful and a pretty nice place, but I think it was more comparable to an upgraded nursing home. There were people playing bingo while I was there in the activity room. They have a little refrigerator, and a tiny sink, but there was really no need to have anything more because they already serve meals. They just had space for if you wanted special cooking. It also had a microwave. Their staff was wonderful. If I have to live there, I can drive my car if I want to, but I would actually have access to a ride to grocery shopping or anything like that."
