I liked Cristal Palace Resort but they need a lot of work for them to be up to par. They have to finish the pool and have a little more activities for the residents because it doesn't seem like they have a lot. They're very nice people. The doorways weren't really wide enough for a wheelchair. I liked the nice fellow who interviewed me and took me around. The ceiling panels are falling down and I don't really know how they're open with that going on. The main guy wasn't there since he had to guys somewhere else, and lunchtime was over with. I didn't even see a dining room where they had chairs and tables, and if lunchtime was just over, there should have been people in there with tables and chairs set up. I saw some people eating but not in there, like it's just a table or two and they were sitting out by the middle of the foyer. It wouldn't be a place that I would go to until they fix those things up. They have an indoor and outdoor pool, and they have a thing where you can walk in and you don't have to use stairs which is another plus on their behalf.

I could go with my husband to Cristal Palace Resort, but we would have to do everything in one room, which I don't like. It was less expensive, and it was nice. It used to be a Holiday Inn, and they transformed it into an assisted living, so that means your room looks like a motel room. It wasn't very homey. Well, they said we can come in right away, they'll work on the VA, and they will pay retroactive. However, they did have a few things that I don't like about it.

If your loved one needs any type of physical assistance, this is not your place. Although we like the actual building layout and location, my mom was very poorly treated and ignored when she needed help...sometimes waiting up to 7 hours or more for her clothing to be changed after being soiled.. Inexcusable. She even had to call the police one time since no one would answer her internal call button for help. Understaffed, with inappropriate qualifications, and unorganized facility. Cannot appropriately care for the elderly. This is only a money making facility and they will not expend anything over what will minimally take care of your loved one. Beware, aside from above, when my mom broke her shoulder while in their care, they transferred her to another facility for rehab, then refused to take her back! On the day she was to return, we found out they would not accept her back (literally, you are not allowed back on the property) and were forced to find her another place to live...no notice, nothing. Then charged us for each day her belongings remained there...again without telling us ahead of time! It took us two weeks to find her another place to live and if I would have known they were still charging us every day her belongings remained (although the facility was only 15% occupied), I would have moved them out immediately. Greedy greedy greedy...and it shows. Just look up yourself State of Florida AHCA Facility Statements of Deficiencies where they fined this particular facility so many times for inadequacies that I'm surprised they are still in business, So glad we left there, she is so much happier now in her new location.

My mom was about to move into Cristal Palace, but at the last minute, they said that she needed too much care that they won’t be able to provide. It’s pretty, clean, well kept, bright, and sunny. The people looked happy. I didn't have complaints about that. The people eat in the dining area where they watch TV. The person that toured us was a big help. I really wanted to put my mother in, but unfortunately, things didn’t work out.

I was at Cristal Palace, and my room flooded every time it rained. The lobby and the dining room flooded as well. The elevator was dirty at best. I didn’t like it. The staff did the best they could.

Cristal Palace resort is fairly new; it’s a hotel that has been revamped into a nursing home/long term home care. It also has an Alzheimer’s and dementia unit. I asked them where the LPN, nurses, or whatever you have on the floor were, and she said they were all at lunch. There was absolutely no one there to take care of someone that needed it.
