"I like the idea that Castlewood Assisted Living Residence is really sunny and bright with lots of light. I can be outside, and I'll be able to use my walker there. They serve three meals a day plus a snack. Somebody will help me do anything I need them to do, and I get to do my crochet. The staff that I saw over there seems to be really good. People are really friendly. They're real nice. They stopped and talked to me, and introduced themselves even before they knew I was going to be there. The room is big and there's lots of space. They told me I could bring anything I wanted as long as it was small. I don't know if they have anybody else with diabetes. I did ask if my diet would be considered and they said absolutely, they would make sure that I get what I need. The dining area is very spacious. It's got places where there are tables for four, and then there's another smaller dining area that has a bigger table where more people can sit, and they have some places where you can sit by yourself. There's a hair salon and a nail salon. I'm excited about the hair salon. I can have somebody wash my hair for me because I can't do it. The facility appears to be very clean. They were going from room to room to make the beds and stuff when we were there. It smelled clean, but it didn't have that bleach smell. I can't do the Clorox. I get a headache. I have asthma and bleach sets me off."

"We visited the assisted living facility of Brookdale Vero Beach South for my parents. They offered everything that we were looking for, and there was nothing about it that I thought really needed to be improved. I thought it was a wonderful experience visiting there. I think the best of what they have to offer is care. The amount of care that is included in the rent is very good. The woman who is the director was wonderful with the tour and the interview. She asked the right questions and told us everything that we wanted to know. It went very well. It was just a comforting experience for us. She went above and beyond with just the informational part. The size of the rooms was smaller than another facility we toured, but they weren't so small that they were too confining or anything like that. It's all up to the individual. The rooms were very suitable for anybody, but with my parents, there would be two people in that room. That's something we're still looking to see if it'll work right now as it stands. I think it probably would, but we also have to consider the budget. They have just about everything you can think of, and if it's not on the premises, they have an activities bus that takes people. I have a calendar of their activities for the month of September, and there are five or six things going on every day. There are Tuesdays when the shuttle bus goes to the county library. There's another day they go to the shopping mall, I'm guessing the big mall, and there are a variety of other outings that they go on. There are also people coming in quite often for entertainment. My parents are religious people and wanted to see if there was a Catholic service, and there is. They had a lot of little things that they thought about that really were of value or of importance to the clientele. I haven't tried the food, but I did tour the restaurant, and we did see the menu. I know for a fact that they have fully trained chefs at each of their communities, because they do have several. When I say trained chefs, they don't just hire anybody who can open up a can and pop it in a microwave. They have people who are actually culinary school-trained cooks and dietitians on staff. The upkeep of the place is also immaculate."

"I checked out both independent and assisted living at Grand Villa of Palm Bay. What we drove up there certainly was beautiful to look at. It would be a very nice home to come to, to live. It looked very upper class. It looked very clean. It is right on the water, which makes it very pristine also. The grounds and everything outside were immaculate. When I came in I met the lady at the desk. My daughter was with me. She verified our appointment. We met the young lady that was taking us on the tour, and we went to lunch first. There was nothing special prepared for us. We were given the same menu that everybody else had, which was their daily menu and also whatever the special of the day was at lunchtime. My daughter had the special, and I chose just something off of the regular menu. I was very satisfied. The food quality was excellent. The portions and everything were really appropriate. They didn't overfeed you, and they certainly didn't starve you. The staff was extremely accommodating. I enjoyed them very much."

"Glenbrooke Senior Living was very clean. Justin has kept in touch with me, and he was very, very helpful. Their staff had been there for some years. I believe one of the staff members has been there for 11 years. They didn't have a big turnover as far as their staff goes. They were a little pricier, but for what they offered, I didn't have a problem with it. He showed me an apartment that was available, and it was on the third floor. They have elevators, which would be good for my father. He's pretty limited to his walking. One of the people who was staying there also did some of the maintenance. I thought it was nice that they're utilizing people's willingness to help out in different areas and things. If it were me, I'd like to feel needed. The dining area was very, very clean, and all the floors were shiny. I didn't see anything out of place, and I was very impressed with them."

"My parents moved into A Place Like Home. It's just a small facility and they're sharing a room in the facility. It seemed like the administrative staff was very caring and interested in trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. It's just a large, single-family home that has been converted into an assisted living facility. They've got four to six rooms, I'm not sure how big it was. It was very clean when I was there. They were very caring. The staff was going to try to have an outing with my father. I had spoken to the administrator about it as well, and they were going to try to get him out. The administrator worked with me on the monthly fee and we were able to come to an amicable conclusion on that, which I felt was very fair. It's not a large facility. So what they do is they bring in folks on a staggered basis to do certain things, like from what my understanding was, there will be a doctor on-site once, once every three weeks. There will be a nurse on-site once every three weeks. They have beauty care type things, for haircuts and things like that once every couple of weeks, so they're bringing people in to do the services as opposed to having somebody on site all the time because it's not a large facility."

"My mother is in the assisted living facility of The Fountains of Melbourne. It's a beautiful place, and in a quiet area, which is nice. It's not on a busy highway like a lot of them. The people are friendly and nice. My mother's apartment is beautiful, and she has a balcony. The food at the restaurant is also great. It just feels good for her to be there. She's well taken care of, and she has a necklace, if she needs any help. Around the bathroom and the hallway, there's also a button with a string on it in case she falls. It's just so nice. I wouldn't mind living there myself. She doesn't have to cook, clean, or do her laundry. It's just wonderful, nicely kept, and has beautiful landscaping. The pool area is gorgeous, and it's more like a resort than feeling like you're in an assisted living facility. The people there came a couple of times today to check up on her and see if everything's okay. It just gives peace of mind for the family. I've eaten there myself, and the food is delicious. It's like being in a first-class restaurant because the presentation is wonderful. I've only eaten there once. I had the lobster bisque and a turkey club, and it was great. When the ice cream comes out, they drizzle some chocolate on it. The presentation of the food is unbelievable. It's a very nice place and I can't imagine anybody who wouldn't like it. I don't encounter the staff like my mom does, but when we first got there, they had a little welcome party and answered all of our questions. The nurse comes in and checks up on my mom a couple of times a day. The cleaning woman makes her bed, and they take the trash out every day. They even took my mom to the hospital when she wasn't feeling well during the holiday. One of the staff members took her to the hospital, stayed with her, and brought her home."

"I toured Century Oaks. The staff there were very efficient. They were undergoing a lot of changes when I looked at the place, but I loved their larger apartments. It's beautiful, and their rates were lower, and they were closer to $3,000. A washer and dryer, a stove, a refrigerator, and a microwave were all supplied. The one thing that held me back was that I didn't see many residents. They just seemed to whiz by, no smiles, nothing, just on their motor scooters. You could tell they were semi-independent, at least. The cafeteria is large."

"The residents at Brookdale Melbourne seemed very happy and content and they were interacting with each other. Simone was fantastic. She deserves kudos. The building wasn't the newest that I've been in, but Simone was able to go over the emergency procedures with me very clearly and concisely for evacuation in case of a hurricane because we're in Florida. The residents were outgoing. They all spoke to me. It was pet friendly. I got to meet some of the pets and they were fantastic. The residents had an herb garden that they worked on together. A lot of the residents were watching a movie when I went through it. They just seemed like a cohesive team as opposed to individuals living in a facility. They seemed like a family and that's what struck me the most about that facility, and it was comfortable and real. It was like home. You didn't get an institutional feeling from it. I met with the activities director. She was facilitating a movie in one of the common areas. There was a gathering of residents, and they were all engaged. I would give the facilities director a high rating, too. What I saw there that I didn't see in any other place was they had a computer set up in one of their common living room areas. It had a large TV and they were free to use a computer if they needed to or wanted to. Simone was very informative. She broke everything out very clearly and concisely. She gave options and suggestions and that is so very much appreciated. When my mother does become receptive, I would probably definitely look there again. They had a variety on their menu. I loved it. It didn't look brand shiny new, but it looked comfy. They're undergoing some remodeling in some rooms, so that takes away a little bit from the appearance. There was new carpeting."

"When I arrived at Brookdale West Melbourne, they were very welcoming. However, they did not know that a tour had been scheduled, but they made time for me. They showed me a studio and a one-bedroom. The lady that toured me was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She was able to call her salesperson from Brookdale, and that person guided me through and let me know the prices and availability and the specials that were going on. The cleanliness was very good. Everything looked very nice."

"We moved into Brookdale West Melbourne. I liked it because it was on one floor. The people that were here met us at the door and told us how happy they were and how good the staff was to them, and we found that they were right. I was looking for a home, and I found one. All the staff are very caring and helpful. The people here are nice and friendly. They have a great cook. It's just a nice place. Our apartment is small, but it's homey and set up so that we can get along fine in it. They empty the trash every day. They do everything they need to do. The food is really good. If you don't like what they have, they'll substitute something for it, and they make sure that they try to satisfy you with the meal. We play bingo and different games. They have exercise classes. They transport us to doctors and where we need to go. They take them on trips. There's an area where you can go outside."

"We went to Veterans and Seniors Care First. The seniors looked very comfortable. Everything that they did, they did it in a very professional way. My friend's grandparents liked being there, and that's a good thing. It was clean, the room was clean, everything about it was excellent. I would like to have my mom going there, but it's a little too pricey. When we went to the cafeteria, everyone was so happy there. They were eating, and they said the food was good."

"I really like Zon Beachside Assisted Living. There were lots of activities. It was very organized. It had everything. It all looked very new, and it seemed like they had a good plan for it."
