"I like the idea that Castlewood Assisted Living Residence is really sunny and bright with lots of light. I can be outside, and I'll be able to use my walker there. They serve three meals a day plus a snack. Somebody will help me do anything I need them to do, and I get to do my crochet. The staff that I saw over there seems to be really good. People are really friendly. They're real nice. They stopped and talked to me, and introduced themselves even before they knew I was going to be there. The room is big and there's lots of space. They told me I could bring anything I wanted as long as it was small. I don't know if they have anybody else with diabetes. I did ask if my diet would be considered and they said absolutely, they would make sure that I get what I need. The dining area is very spacious. It's got places where there are tables for four, and then there's another smaller dining area that has a bigger table where more people can sit, and they have some places where you can sit by yourself. There's a hair salon and a nail salon. I'm excited about the hair salon. I can have somebody wash my hair for me because I can't do it. The facility appears to be very clean. They were going from room to room to make the beds and stuff when we were there. It smelled clean, but it didn't have that bleach smell. I can't do the Clorox. I get a headache. I have asthma and bleach sets me off."

"I toured Brookdale Vero Beach South. It's small and it's only assisted living, and people were friendly, so it was nice. I think they had a mini refrigerator, and you would have to bring in all your own furniture. The staff was very knowledgeable and did a great job."

"I checked out both independent and assisted living at Grand Villa of Palm Bay. What we drove up there certainly was beautiful to look at. It would be a very nice home to come to, to live. It looked very upper class. It looked very clean. It is right on the water, which makes it very pristine also. The grounds and everything outside were immaculate. When I came in I met the lady at the desk. My daughter was with me. She verified our appointment. We met the young lady that was taking us on the tour, and we went to lunch first. There was nothing special prepared for us. We were given the same menu that everybody else had, which was their daily menu and also whatever the special of the day was at lunchtime. My daughter had the special, and I chose just something off of the regular menu. I was very satisfied. The food quality was excellent. The portions and everything were really appropriate. They didn't overfeed you, and they certainly didn't starve you. The staff was extremely accommodating. I enjoyed them very much."

"I moved into Glenbrooke Senior Living. My meals are all supplied. They clean the apartment once a week. They drive me to any doctor's appointments. It's a good place. Right now, I have a plan that says I get two meals a day. It works out well because I am not an early riser, and by the time they want to serve breakfast, I'm just getting out of bed. The apartment size is beautiful. It's just like moving into a regular apartment. I have a 1,200-square-foot apartment. I have a beautiful little patio. I don't pay for anything here except my TV. I just moved from across the hall. My initial apartment had very dark granite, and I liked a lot of light around me. Everything else about the apartment was perfect. It was clean. Washer and dryer are supplied. You do your laundry right in your apartment. Anything you could think of, they have there for you, including a microwave and a gas stove. It's wonderful and has a large pantry for someone who won't have to cook anymore. The food is very satisfactory. It's not gourmet, but it's not being served in a high school cafeteria either. There's more than one building. For the main building, where our dining area is, I would give it a five, but for the outbuildings we live in, those of us who can do a little more care, I'm going to give it a four because they are not doing the hallways as well as they should. Some things need updating or at least some reporting; you just shouldn't be satisfied with what's there if it's not right. Every hour, something is going on until seven o'clock at night. I enjoyed all the ones that I attended."

"My parents moved into A Place Like Home. It's just a small facility and they're sharing a room in the facility. It seemed like the administrative staff was very caring and interested in trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. It's just a large, single-family home that has been converted into an assisted living facility. They've got four to six rooms, I'm not sure how big it was. It was very clean when I was there. They were very caring. The staff was going to try to have an outing with my father. I had spoken to the administrator about it as well, and they were going to try to get him out. The administrator worked with me on the monthly fee and we were able to come to an amicable conclusion on that, which I felt was very fair. It's not a large facility. So what they do is they bring in folks on a staggered basis to do certain things, like from what my understanding was, there will be a doctor on-site once, once every three weeks. There will be a nurse on-site once every three weeks. They have beauty care type things, for haircuts and things like that once every couple of weeks, so they're bringing people in to do the services as opposed to having somebody on site all the time because it's not a large facility."

"I can't say enough about the Fountains of Melbourne in Florida. First off the staff's expression of compassion and friendliness is genuine and consistent. I stayed after we moved my mother in for two weeks so I got a first hand view of everything going on. The food is delicious through nearly 20 meals it was absolutely outstanding, tasty and many choices to select from. The staff anticipate your needs. The cleanliness is also outstanding. The staff assisted in finding other residents that my mother might resonate with and had common interests with. They arranged for a meeting on both sides and that helped make my departure so much easier knowing that new friendships were on their way. The Directors were all very congenial and anticipated move in needs and did the follow-up as well. It has been 2 months and my mother feels at home and secure in her new apartment. Give the Fountains of Melbourne a visit you will not regret it!"

"I toured Century Oaks. The staff there were very efficient. They were undergoing a lot of changes when I looked at the place, but I loved their larger apartments. It's beautiful, and their rates were lower, and they were closer to $3,000. A washer and dryer, a stove, a refrigerator, and a microwave were all supplied. The one thing that held me back was that I didn't see many residents. They just seemed to whiz by, no smiles, nothing, just on their motor scooters. You could tell they were semi-independent, at least. The cafeteria is large."

"The residents at Brookdale Melbourne seemed very happy and content and they were interacting with each other. Simone was fantastic. She deserves kudos. The building wasn't the newest that I've been in, but Simone was able to go over the emergency procedures with me very clearly and concisely for evacuation in case of a hurricane because we're in Florida. The residents were outgoing. They all spoke to me. It was pet friendly. I got to meet some of the pets and they were fantastic. The residents had an herb garden that they worked on together. A lot of the residents were watching a movie when I went through it. They just seemed like a cohesive team as opposed to individuals living in a facility. They seemed like a family and that's what struck me the most about that facility, and it was comfortable and real. It was like home. You didn't get an institutional feeling from it. I met with the activities director. She was facilitating a movie in one of the common areas. There was a gathering of residents, and they were all engaged. I would give the facilities director a high rating, too. What I saw there that I didn't see in any other place was they had a computer set up in one of their common living room areas. It had a large TV and they were free to use a computer if they needed to or wanted to. Simone was very informative. She broke everything out very clearly and concisely. She gave options and suggestions and that is so very much appreciated. When my mother does become receptive, I would probably definitely look there again. They had a variety on their menu. I loved it. It didn't look brand shiny new, but it looked comfy. They're undergoing some remodeling in some rooms, so that takes away a little bit from the appearance. There was new carpeting."

"When I arrived at Brookdale West Melbourne, they were very welcoming. However, they did not know that a tour had been scheduled, but they made time for me. They showed me a studio and a one-bedroom. The lady that toured me was very knowledgeable and very helpful. She was able to call her salesperson from Brookdale, and that person guided me through and let me know the prices and availability and the specials that were going on. The cleanliness was very good. Everything looked very nice."

"We moved into Brookdale West Melbourne. I liked it because it was on one floor. The people that were here met us at the door and told us how happy they were and how good the staff was to them, and we found that they were right. I was looking for a home, and I found one. All the staff are very caring and helpful. The people here are nice and friendly. They have a great cook. It's just a nice place. Our apartment is small, but it's homey and set up so that we can get along fine in it. They empty the trash every day. They do everything they need to do. The food is really good. If you don't like what they have, they'll substitute something for it, and they make sure that they try to satisfy you with the meal. We play bingo and different games. They have exercise classes. They transport us to doctors and where we need to go. They take them on trips. There's an area where you can go outside."

"We went to Veterans and Seniors Care First. The seniors looked very comfortable. Everything that they did, they did it in a very professional way. My friend's grandparents liked being there, and that's a good thing. It was clean, the room was clean, everything about it was excellent. I would like to have my mom going there, but it's a little too pricey. When we went to the cafeteria, everyone was so happy there. They were eating, and they said the food was good."
