I live in Lakes at Leesburg and the cost of the housing now is almost out of reach. There are no meals, but there is a community clubhouse and security at the gate. I have no complaints. It is a manufactured home community. There are approximately 600 houses here. We only had one second of an outage of electricity during the last storm, which is good. The staff is always good. There are quite a few activities, if you want to participate. Value for money is good. If this house sold and new people moved in, they'd have to pay the current rent. It would be about $200 more a month than I'm paying right now. They have a golf course, a clubhouse, golf activities, potlucks, bingo at the clubhouse, concerts, choir, and things like that.

I am a golden gal into her 70s who has lived in LAL for nearly 8 years. I moved here after checking out more than half a dozen other such retirement communities in the area. At that time, I was a bit concerned about the lot rent being near $500 per month as I am a single golden gal on social security that doesn't seem to keep up too well with inflation. I had a bit of discussion with my real estate agent about lot rent increases yearly and felt confident they would be reasonable and with SS increases should be in line. It was this year's increase that was hard to take and some residents opted to sell their homes and move out. It was about a 10% increase which was more than $50 ... that's a lot for a retired person on SS. For me the biggest challenge, among others here, is trying to get a good night's sleep. It is next to impossible to sleep through any night because of people playing their sound systems. One nearby neighbor who has since passed away stated it sounds like a "pump" going throughout the night. Yeah, that is the percussion part of the noises like a giant washing machine is running for hours. If you need hearing aids, you'll probably be able to survive the nightly sleep-interrupting noises.
