Assisted Living Communities in Parma Heights, OH

"My mother was only in Sunrise at Parma for a month, then she passed away. I visited several nursing homes and Sunrise seemed the best. They were very easy to work with, no difficulty trying to get her admitted or anything. Every time I called, somebody got back to me right away. They answered emails and phone calls and things like that. She got great care. She was in memory care. The staff would try and engage her in activities. She was 97, so she wasn't happy that I moved her. She wasn't that eager to participate, and her mobility was declining, too, but they tried to engage her to eat. The place always looked clean and neat when I was there. She wasn't the most receptive to being there, but it was best for her. She always would go for dessert, but she'd be kind of picky with the other stuff. I think it was the best. I liked the way it was set up and being it was memory care, I didn't have to worry that she would escape. There were alarms on the doors leading out and things like that. I didn't have to worry that way. I would come and do her laundry, but she never looked like she was dirty or anything else like that when I would go to see her. Every other day, I went to see her and they always had her dressed and ready to go whatever was up for the day. They had activities, different trivia, and they'd watch movies and things like that. They had a big communal area. The other residents there would be like, "Well, she didn't do this today" or that kind of thing. There was a view from her room. There was a birdfeeder and flowers outside her window. I thought we could get her bed and a chair and a little end table in the room. Besides the closet space and the bathroom, I thought it was big enough. It didn't look like a hospital room. It looked more like somebody's living room kind of thing as opposed to an institution. I didn't taste the food, but it looked desirable. It didn't look like prison food or anything else like that. They had activities in the common area for the other people that weren't in memory care. They had different places that they could go, but technically it was still during COVID, so there's not much going out that they could do. I saw the residents from the assisted living part coming in. Maybe they would just take them out on a bus ride to look at different things. Once things got better, they had different places that they would go. In the memory care, they said it was a little bit too much to try and keep them corralled from wandering off and things like that. It looked like they had lots of things to do for them in the assisted living facility. I saw them doing puzzles and crafts as I would walk into the memory care. People would sit around and watch TV if they wanted to. They had physical therapy that I saw them do and things like that as well."

"My parents have been residents in the independent living at the Rockside community for 7 months. Is it perfect? No. But they are attentive to concerns and make an effort to rectify any problems. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are a fair number of activities. They try to have events for special days. My parents frequently talk about the beautiful valentines day dinner and the eclipse party. There was a women’s tea for Christmas that my mom thoroughly enjoyed. My mom moved from their home reluctantly. Yesterday she told me she doesn’t miss her house anymore and that she loves her new home at Vitalia. That speaks volumes!"

"My brother has stayed in Vista Springs Ravinia Estate for two weeks for respite to see how he likes it. It's beautiful. They have good staff and great food. There is a lot of care and concern from all of the staff. It's top of the line. The facility is beautiful. They have everything that seniors could want. It's a very nice facility. The rooms are one- or two-bedroom apartments. They're very well furnished, very modern, and very updated. The staff was very friendly, very caring, and very attentive. The food was excellent."

"The best thing about Danbury Broadview Heights is the food and the people that wait on us are fabulous. They do very good work on serving the food quickly and the food is excellent. I have an efficiency apartment. It has a bathroom and a closet. It's like 350 feet. It was a temporary stop. They were nice enough to take care of me when I had this obstacle on my leg. I needed somewhere to go temporarily, and I will be moving to their sister community. I want to thank the director and the lady, Alison, that took me in and they've been very, very nice to me. The only thing that they lack here is a swimming pool. I could be transported across the street to their community center, but this thing just came off my leg a month ago and there's no sense in doing that now. They have two floors and they have a lot of nice features. They have a big area where they have an activity room on the second floor. They have a game room and a lot of nice things. Everybody's been very pleasant. I have a motorized wheelchair, so I'm able to go out and get some sunshine. Their food is very good. Most of the staff, especially in the eating area, have been extremely friendly, helpful, and quick. The only downside is they're very expensive. I would have loved to have stayed here, but I couldn't afford the monthly bill. Our staff is great. It's a nine-year-old building. There's nothing wrong with it. They have many things to do, and I participate in some of them."

"I went to Vitalia Senior Residences at Strongsville. It was nice and well maintained. It's newer, they have a few of them, so my description of it is that they have it well organized and they did adhere to COVID compliance and protection for any visitor that came in. So I'll be assured that you'd be OK taking a tour at this time. The staff was very nice, very informative, very empathetic, and we used the word very, quite a bit because they did their due diligence. I did not see any activities because I was directed strictly into their memory neighborhood due to the diagnosis of my father. They customize activities for that individual and the family as far as what that person can do. The area which I toured was very quiet and a lot of things were shut down because of the COVID situation. They were still following COVID protocol, and not opening common areas, so I didn't see anybody. I was informed that they seem to do individual accommodation, they referred to them as apartments, and they were quite sizable. You have to supply everything, they don't supply anything. It's an empty unit and then you would supply whatever personal items, everything. The dining room is extremely different in the memory neighborhood versus the assisted living. Assisted living is quite elaborate. It looks like a little hotel or restaurant. The memory is more like a little kitchenette, not much. They have twenty-five patients in the unit and it's run by one nurse and three aides. It's very clean, open quarters, and it's quite different from the others I've seen."

"My father moved into Cardinal Court. We like it. He seems fine. The staff is very caring and very patient. They have the residents' best interests in mind. The food is actually good because I was there with him for several days making sure he's settled in. They have an activities director, and I would see her doing different things with them. They have arts and crafts, chair volleyball, and exercises."

"I took my friend over at Rockport Senior Living, but she was stubborn. She said it was too small, but it seemed fine to me. They had a dining room and a small room with the TV. She'd be pretty well set there. She just didn't think it was big enough. It's a nice facility. The people there were friendly. It was a good place. They had elevators and nurses on duty. It would be a nice place for her."

"My friend has moved into Bickford of Rocky River. The reason we chose them is because of the speed at which I could get him in there, and it seemed to be very beneficial to him, and in fact, it is. The staff is very helpful. My friend's room is a one-room L-shaped with a small sink for a kitchen area and one large bathroom. They have a common area room, and I've seen the dining room and the grounds. As for activities, the other day I was there, they had bingo, and one other day, they had some sort of like a badminton game or something like that going on. The activities I think are just garden variety things. I don't know how much they add to people's general lifestyle. And I think all these places are way overpriced."

"My mother stayed at Vitalia Senior Residences at Westlake for three days and then she fell and broke her hip. We chose this community because it had good food and it was a very nice facility. It was clean and brand new. We also saw that it got decent reviews, so we were confident that she would get good care there based on the reviews and based on our interaction with the staff. We met ahead of time with the staff. We moved in on a weekend, so there weren't a lot of staff there, but they made it very easy, giving us access with the movers, and moving in was pretty seamless. The staff seemed very nice and attentive. I think they were responsive to my mother and her requests and to me. On the weekends they were a little understaffed, but I think everywhere is understaffed, especially on the weekends. Another reason we chose them was because my mom liked the activities that they had. They had intergenerational activities, cultural activities, and a travel series. It was beyond what we saw at some of the other facilities that we interviewed with. They had a pool, and it seemed like they had a pretty strong physical therapy program."

"The place we liked the most would probably be Fairmont of Westlake. I liked their aging-in-place philosophy where the person doesn't have to move to a different apartment if they progressed to needing assisted living. The staff was very attentive and seemed to know what we were looking for. The place was slightly dated. But they have a salon and a courtyard. It appeared to be clean and well-maintained. It's near St Anne's Hospital."

"I'm a resident here, and it's very good. It has 72 residents, so it's not huge, and everyone knows everybody. They have bingo, movies, bowling, pool, and go to the casino, shopping, and restaurants. They have prayer service, Scrabble, board games, coffee hour, and monthly meetings with the residents to try to improve their activities. They have medical staff, who are pretty good and do their best to take care of our needs."

"I was looking for an assisted living facility for my sister in which she could retain her independence to a degree but then also have the luxury of nutritional meals three times a day and the fact that staff would be checking in on her just to make sure that she was OK on days that I could not be there. The facility in Brunswick is beautiful well laid out very clean and bright and the apartment for my sister is absolutely perfect for her."
