"Spring Arbor of Frederick was nice, very homey, and comfortable. Everything appeared well-maintained. The residents seemed active. A singer came and we got to watch him interact with the residents. We talked to a resident who seemed happy to be there and enthusiastic about their program options. The rooms were a nice size and had a nice layout. They had the option of a suite with a separate living area. It's all on one floor with nice broad hallways and handrails. We really liked that there were no elevators or stairs to deal with. It had an almost hotel like feel to it. The staff seemed very caring and engaged with the residents. It's a brand-new facility, so the rooms were nicer. They had outdoor areas and common areas. The memory care area looked just as homey and comfortable as the assisted living area."

"I toured for my sister. That was a suitable facility, but there were a lot of residents there. I just feel a little more comfortable with my sister being in a smaller facility. They did have activities. Actually they had my sister participated in an activity when we toured it. They have little get-togethers, they have crafts and Susan likes that kind of stuff. They did invite us for lunch but we passed on that. They did all the right things. "

"I went to Harmony at Martinsburg. It was a big unit. It was very updated because it's a pretty new building. It had nice windows, very light with sunlight coming in. It was decorated really nice and very homey. And the best thing that I thought about there was they had a room with a crib with baby dolls. Some of the patients would go get a baby doll and carry it around for their baby. And I thought that was something special. I thought that was a great touch. The staff was very nice and very informative. I still keep getting emails from her sending me stuff to come and visit. The dining room looked like a restaurant. It was tables, nice chairs, and carpeted. It was very nice and very homey."

"Visited my neighbors father this morning. Staff engaged with residents in a game of Wii-Bowling! Everyone having a fun time. I was invited to stay for lunch. No one was expecting me but I was made at home! Oven fried chicken, home made mashed potatoes and tomatoes out of the garden. Can't wait until I'm old enough to move in!!! "

"I toured Paramount Senior Living at Chambersburg. It's an absolutely beautiful setting. It's in the mountains. The grounds were spacious, wooded, and well-kept. The independent living area was very nice. The apartments there are large and all one-bedroom. They're very spacious. The staff who accommodated us was the manager of the facility, and she was informative, positive, and very helpful. The dining area for independent living was small but very clean. They were in the process of cooking dinner, which smelled very good. They had bingo activities. They had trips to the local theaters. I can't remember everything that was on the activity list, but it was a very full activity from what I remember. If I could convince my mother to move in there today, I would."

"My mother moved into Reflections - A Senior Living Community. It's a nice, small community. She has a roommate, and it's a nice, little room. There's exercise in the morning, they have people come in, they had a pianist come and play the other day, and they do arts, and flower arranging. The food is good. The staff is really good, and caring, and they do an excellent job. It's good value, it's less expensive than the others."

"Caring and considerate. "Foxmoor" (Woodbine, Maryland) housed my elderly relative for about a year or so in her declining days. The staff/help were excellent: they were kind and provided personalized care. The care went beyond just providing services... they developed personal relationships with my relative there. The staff were very good at providing positive energy in sometimes difficult circumstances. The facility was clean, modern and well lighted, and located in an attractive peaceful/rural setting. Residents (numbering from 3 to 5 over the period of my relative's residence) ranged from middle-aged to elderly. The owner/supervisor was well experienced in the field, compassionate, well-organized, and ran a very open, hospitable residence. In my visits, I was always welcome and made to feel at home. "

"My husband moved to Tribute at Black Hill. They respect the person and they get them out of bed in the morning, and they don't go back to bed until the evening. They were friendly, and they respected the person that they were going to serve. I liked the facility very much. The rooms are bright, clean, and very nice. They have activities from the morning till night. They don't have it in the hall. They have it in the room."

"I loved Charlotte Home. But they can't take a diabetic on a sliding scale because they have less than 16 people and, with Maryland law, they don’t have to have an RN on duty, so there is no one to monitor me. The place was awesome. I went in, and it was like walking into a home, they were cooking roast beef for dinner, and the people were friendly. There was more than 1 place you could eat, you could tell that the residents were very happy, and the lawn outside was immaculate. I sat down and had a wonderful conversation with the director, and she was very informative."

"My mother lives at Fahrney Keedy. She has a wonderful, spacious 2 bedroom cottage that she loves. Staff have been wonderful, accommodating, and helpful. Due to COVID, things are restricted right now but she is kept up to date with newsletters and memos on a regular basis. The community drops off treats often. There is a gazebo, community garden, community center, gym available for all residents to use. The Independent Living Residents Association meets for ice cream socials, movie night, trips and outing into the community, and other events. There is a gift shop in the main building where items can be purchased. The home she lives in is maintenance free. Fahrney Keedy offers a beauty/barber shop where residents can get their hair done or trim with reasonable rates. The residents get together for book club, trips to Walmart, Antietam Battlefield, Red Bird Diner, and many other places. The price to live here is just right. The food is delicious and can be delivered to her home. Accommodations can typically be met. Staff are very helpful and friendly. You can tell they genuinely care. I'm glad Mom is at Fahrney Keedy! "

"It was fine. They were very informative, and they gave me the tour. The dining room was nice. I liked the location. "

"Not being familiar with assisted living facilities, I was still extremely disappointed with this one. None of the staff members spoke clear English, and were not friendly by any means. We were not greeted for quite some time upon arrival and staff members continued to walk by us and said nothing. I did not get the feeling that they were efficient or organized in any way, and most staff members were not able to answer even the simplest of questions. When questioned about how they handled their medications, if a nurse/doctor was present at all, if their meals were personalized for clients (diabetes, etc), they seemed to fumble their answers or did not know the answers. We spoke with a few clients who lived there at the time we were visiting and all of them had very negative things to say about the facility and its' workers. Some of their complaints was that they refused to turn up the heat, the food was always cold, they were only allowed to bathe twice a week, they could not understand what the staff members were saying, etc. After going back a few times to visit our client, the owner accused us of not paying for her services and threatened to kick out our client. We had also heard from others in the facility that the owner has kicked people out before; she put them in a taxi cab with their items and sent them to the local shelter. I went to the facility approximately 6 times, each time being a terrible experience. We worked with the department of social services to get our client placed somewhere else and filed a formal complaint about the facility. "

"We have put a deposit on Homewood but we are waiting for an opening. It is close to us, so it makes it convenient, and the price is right. They have cottages and apartments, and different levels of one bedrooms with a den or a two bedrooms, so they have quite a selection. The staff treated us fine. We were treated to a meal, which is part of what they provide. We tried one meal, and it seemed fine. You have so many meals a month, but you don’t have to eat there all the time, which is what we wanted. They have a pool, playrooms, and transportation if you need it. They have different groups, like if you want to do some planting or whatever you are interested in, and they have a workshop. It’s an older, 80-year-old unit, but one of the things we like is that as the place gets empty, they are refurbishing and updating rooms. We are waiting for a two-bedroom with a den."
