"My sister was in Brookdale West Hartford. It's excellent. The staff was very good and we had nothing but sincere, caring people there. Choosing them was the best decision we've made. She was there for five months, and she was in a 2-bedroom apartment that she shared. It had a living room, and they had all the other facilities. It was a very good arrangement. They had some wonderful activities, and they tried to make it entertaining. The staff worked very close with them. They did a wonderful job, and they really cared. We got that feeling from the receptionist all the way up. They had a beautician that came, and they had a sunroom with plants. It's three floors, so there were a lot of things going on."

"Hoffman SummerWood Community was overall really good. We sampled some of the pastries that they offer, which were good. They had a life-alert pendant that comes standard with your rent. As long as you're within a certain radius of the facility, you have that available to you and you don't have to pay anything extra. They pretty much have the same things as the other places. The staff during the tour was very good. They had a great menu that they offered for lunch and dinner."

"The staff was very helpful. They did an excellent job when my mother was in a very tough position medically while transitioning from her home to assisted living. They gave her extra care and attention, which is what she needed. She has been there about 2 ½ months now, and she is settling in and getting her routine, and it is really important to get that transition period going and as quickly as possible. The staff made that transition very smooth. When we felt we needed changes to her care, they responded to our request almost immediately. We are at a point now, after 2 ½ months, where we are pretty stable in terms of our care plan for Mom. They understand her, and she is now more comfortable with the staff; she trusts them. So right now we are happy with where she is. The only thing I would say they need to improve on is the food because it is inconsistent. "

"My mom has already moved in. Everything has been great so far. It's close to our home, so we can go visit her. It's very clean. The people that work there are very nice and polite. She seems to like it there. She's gone to a couple of exercise classes and some music venues that they've had. She's very satisfied with the food so far. Her room is nice. She has a one-bedroom apartment. It's very spacious, and it has a big bathroom with grab rails for assistance. So far, so good. She enjoys it. The staff has been excellent so far. She hasn't complained about anything yet. It is pricey, but you get what you pay for."

"My aunt is currently staying at Emeritus at South Windsor. There were two factors why we chose this facility. One was cost and second was proximity to my house. The price was also in a reasonable range and something that she would be able to afford for a number of years. The staff seemed to be very caring and attentive. The services are good. She gets three meals a day and there are a number of activities that are scheduled. She has assistance with personal grooming and they have a beauty salon on site as well as some physical therapy. It's a relatively modest-size room, but it meets all of her needs. It’s nice and bright. "

"I went to Stonebrook Village at Windsor Locks. The location was a good location, as it was right off the highway to my house. It was clean. It seemed to have quite a few amenities. The pricing was reasonable. The staff were great. They were excellent. They were very personable. They seemed to know the residents by name. They were very good. They have an exercise area. They have an activities room. They have a movie room. There was a library there. They ask the residents what they would like, and them try and create different activities based on the wants and needs of the community. I thought that was really nice."

"Old Glory Days was wonderful. It was beautiful. It was very clean. I liked it because it was open. I didn't like it because there were a lot of stairs. They were very expensive, too. The staff was very down-to-earth and neat. It's a converted old house. I wouldn't recommend it unless you lived in town, and if you had a lot of money and you were by yourself. I don't think it was good for a couple. It was very well put together. It was nicely painted inside."

"They provided three meals a day, and it was not too far from my house. The staff was very fine and very knowledgeable. They showed me the calendar for a month of what they did. They had an exercise room. They had yoga. They had rider's group. The atmosphere was very peaceful. We looked at a studio, but I guess she's going to be in a one-bedroom. They were a little small, but they did need a lot because they did not cook. The food was provided for them so they did not need a big place. "

"Colebrook Village at Hebron offers 24-hour nursing care. I probably would have opted to go with this facility, because it's closer to us, but they didn't have any availability when we visited. We toured the memory care area and they were very kind, understanding, empathetic, and very welcoming. It was well-kept and very clean."

"I highly recommend All American Assisted Living at Enfield. My aunt is currently staying in their assisted living facility for respite care. It's very clean and all the people who work there are very friendly and accommodating. I like how they have nurses there, and a doctor comes in, I think, once a week. The food is really good, and they have a nice way of doing meals. You sit at your table, your menu is in front of you with your name on it, and you get to pick what you want, and they bring it to you. My aunt's also eating, which is great because she lost a lot of weight, and is forgetting to eat, so I like it. I've also eaten there a few times. One day, I was there for lunch, and it was a chicken pot pie. The biscuit was on top, so you didn't have to cut through a crust, and it was very easy to eat. I sat with two women who were in their 80s and 90s, and they were able to just use their fork and not have to worry about a knife. The food was fresh and healthy, and really good. There was steamed fresh broccoli for the vegetable, and then for dessert, it was ice cream. It's very welcoming, and just a really good place to stay that is above average. The staff members are right there checking on people, so I have been able to sleep well since my aunt has been in. Anytime you ask them a question and need anything, they're right there and they take care of it for you with a smile. When we needed something, we went and told the desk, and they got the maintenance man to go in and take care of it. I don't really think they have enough activities, though. I had gone to another facility that had all kinds of really good stuff. I noticed that people are creating their own entertainment. Like, there's a group of people that go watch a movie in a certain location, or they make their own group to play cards together. I don't think there are enough activity instructors or directors, so to speak. I also think it's a little overpriced."

"It was a very nice facility. Their activities were fine. They had an art studio and they had a lounge. They showed movies there. They had lots of programs. They had fitness programs and they even had a belly- dancing program. They had transportation that would take them anywhere they wanted to go. "

"Jerome Home is not a brand-new place, but it seems to provide a great deal of care. Monthly fees for private rooms are between $15,000 and $16,000 a month. The residents seem to be well cared for. It's just too far away. "
