"Our tour at The Village at Buckland Court was good, but it was different because the person who was doing the information session with us was more of a salesman than he was clinically oriented. The place was very nice, very clean, and seemed very busy. There were lots of things going on. It was practically brand new. However, we did feel pressured by the sales portion of it. The room was just a room, i.e., there was no refrigerator. It was very sterile and it wasn't as friendly as the other community. Their place was an all-inclusive rate."

"I cannot say enough positive words about this place. My dad moved in about a year ago. All the staff are very kind, including the wait staff at meals. The entire place is extremely clean. The food is excellent. They also went out of their way to assure resident safety during our Covid epidemic. This is a very caring and loving community. I highly recommend. The transportation service gives our family piece of mind. They even take my dad to church. My dad is in the drama club and enjoys playing Wheel of Fortune. He gets his hair cut and has physical therapy in the same building. If they drive there is a Stop and Shop and Target a mile away. I stay overnight when I visit and the staff are very kind to me as well. There are many activities we hope he begins to participate in including the monthly Friday night group that goes out to dinner. His apartment is spacious, set up very well, clean (which they do including washing bedding and towels). I find his place comfortable and love the balcony as well. He has access to a washer/dryer and there is a nice common sitting area just outside his place. I find the common sitting areas comfortable, cozy and clean, including the dining area. "

"Extremely helpful with my 92 year old father with Alzheimer's. Their memory care unit is exceptional, very welcoming and comfortable. Care level from everyone, aides, nurses etc. is what you would want for you loved on. "

"I highly recommend All American Assisted Living at Enfield. My aunt is currently staying in their assisted living facility for respite care. It's very clean and all the people who work there are very friendly and accommodating. I like how they have nurses there, and a doctor comes in, I think, once a week. The food is really good, and they have a nice way of doing meals. You sit at your table, your menu is in front of you with your name on it, and you get to pick what you want, and they bring it to you. My aunt's also eating, which is great because she lost a lot of weight, and is forgetting to eat, so I like it. I've also eaten there a few times. One day, I was there for lunch, and it was a chicken pot pie. The biscuit was on top, so you didn't have to cut through a crust, and it was very easy to eat. I sat with two women who were in their 80s and 90s, and they were able to just use their fork and not have to worry about a knife. The food was fresh and healthy, and really good. There was steamed fresh broccoli for the vegetable, and then for dessert, it was ice cream. It's very welcoming, and just a really good place to stay that is above average. The staff members are right there checking on people, so I have been able to sleep well since my aunt has been in. Anytime you ask them a question and need anything, they're right there and they take care of it for you with a smile. When we needed something, we went and told the desk, and they got the maintenance man to go in and take care of it. I don't really think they have enough activities, though. I had gone to another facility that had all kinds of really good stuff. I noticed that people are creating their own entertainment. Like, there's a group of people that go watch a movie in a certain location, or they make their own group to play cards together. I don't think there are enough activity instructors or directors, so to speak. I also think it's a little overpriced."

"Colebrook Village at Hebron was very nice. We had lunch there, which was just soup and a sandwich. The people were very friendly and very nice. There were many people who were using such devices, so that turned me off a little bit. But the facility was lovely, and the accommodations were lovely. The other thing I like about Colebrook is that they have a lot of people there that I know. So I wouldn't be going into a place without knowing anyone. So that was a plus. It was friendly and very accessible. There are some walking trails, and it is very near to my primary doctor, CVS, and a supermarket, and that's a plus. The person who works there brought me meals from Colebrook, and the food is very, very good."

"Old Glory Days was wonderful. It was beautiful. It was very clean. I liked it because it was open. I didn't like it because there were a lot of stairs. They were very expensive, too. The staff was very down-to-earth and neat. It's a converted old house. I wouldn't recommend it unless you lived in town, and if you had a lot of money and you were by yourself. I don't think it was good for a couple. It was very well put together. It was nicely painted inside."

"I toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Haddam. It was a very good tour. They had a couple of units available, and they showed them all to us. They would have worked out because they offered more services. It was a very pretty location. The facilities were very nice. We saw people doing all different kinds of things, and the staff was very pleasant. Everybody we spoke to was very nice and accommodating. And the cook came out to meet us and asked if we had questions. It was very nice. The apartments were very nice. They were one-bedroom units with bigger kitchen areas and full-sized appliances. I liked the rooms a little better. They were a little more spacious than the other place, although they were both in very nice condition. They had just painted and put new carpets in, and so everything looked very nice."

"I toured the memory care unit of AVIVA West Hartford and I liked very much what I saw. Of course, it's contained, but with an emphasis on cognitive stimulation, sensory stimulation, and a variety of activities. I like the environment. I like that it had some outside access like a patio area for the residents, but there was no availability, and the staff couldn't tell me when there would be availability. The staff though was a very informative and caring person who made some recommendations to other places down near Stratford, so I appreciated that. I like her a lot. I also like the fact that their nutritionist is paying attention to the needs of an older population. The building and the memory care are different. The building is a much older building. It certainly was clean and neat. The memory care unit is not a lot of bells and whistles. It's pretty bare-bones, but that's okay. I think what's more important is the staff and I like the staff that I met. I felt that they were involved and caring for the people that they were working with."

"I visited The McAuley independent living. They have a Life Care plan. It's an older facility, but their apartments are a great size and have lots of good storage space. They had a lot of good programming. St. Joseph College comes in and does some stuff. I didn't get to eat a meal there, but I did get a chance to look at the facilities and what they serve, and also the activity schedule, which was very good. They do outings in the community. The one thing that was negative for me there was that they do not do three meals a day. They do a continental breakfast, and then you have a choice of either lunch or supper. If you're on the first floor, you get a patio."
