The Best Independent Living Communities in Tolland County, CT

"I've only been living here in Connect55+ East Windsor for a month now. I signed up with them at least three years ago, before they even built it. There are a couple of things I really liked about it. One was that there was a washer and dryer in the apartment. They had crafts and stuff. They had numerous activities going on, and they had garages. I was able to move all of my stuff over to the garage. It's brand new and very clean."

"I visited Avery Heights. I looked into a one-bedroom apartment, which was about 600 square feet. This is an older facility, so the arrangement of the rooms is kind of unique. There are about 113 units there. They had a movie theater, a cafe, and full-service salons. The areas that I saw were lovely. The programming seemed to be good. The people who were there for me were a little bit older and maybe not in line with what I would be doing. Other than that, I don't have any negatives on it at all. It's all one building, but there are hallways, so your independent living is in one area, your assisted living is in another area, and memory care is in another. You don't need to go outside to go to any of those. I was able to review a month's schedule of activities and their food, and what I saw was very interesting and looked fine. When you walk into this facility, it's just absolutely beautiful. It's like going into a museum as opposed to a modern facility. It has beautiful architecture."

"Hoffman SummerWood Community was a very nice community. It's a Jewish community pretty much. It was very friendly and I met the rabbi there. My friend is a pretty devout Catholic, and I thought this might not be the best place for her. I didn't see a lot of Christian things going on. It's not all Jewish, obviously, but it was a different environment than the other places that I saw. It's a very warm community and a very pleasant environment. They have book clubs, chess clubs, and writing clubs. They'd go on field trips to the shopping centers and whatnot."

"I like Holiday Bluebird Estates. It seems very clean and spacious. The residents seemed pretty happy. They were all smiling, which made a good first impression. The staff was very cordial, very helpful, and informative. They have a section where there's a pool table. There are tables for them to play cards or whatever else they have. They have a room with books for reading and a TV for watching. They have another section with some aerobics equipment for working out. They have an activity room where they play bingo. There's a community kitchen with a stove and a fridge. I also saw a couple of studios and one-bedroom apartments, which were very clean and nice."

"Large bright apartments with lots of sunlight. Easy access to shopping and I-84. The staff are very friendly and seem to be happy there. I see a lot of faces that were here when I visited a friend a before COVID and that is a good sign. I've been looking locally for my parents and this seems to be a great fit!"

"Our tour of Covenant Living of Cromwell was great. It was awesome. It was like a hotel when you walked in there. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff was amazing. They had a cafeteria, a restaurant, and then they had a coffee shop. So there were three places you could go for a meal. They had a snack room, too. They allow you to have three meals a day, but it was like a credit card setup where they give you so much money every month and allotment for food. I think it was $300 for each person a month. The menus were awesome. The apartments were very nice. They even had a deck where you could go outside (each one had a patio deck). It's very quiet and you could bring pets if you wanted to. They had a movie theater, a music room, and an activities room where you could crochet or needlepoint or have any hobbies, you could do it there. They kept their residents engaged with a bunch of activities going on. We would have picked it, but we just couldn't afford it. It was a little on the high side."

"My mom was a resident of Holiday Quail Run Estates. The staff was friendly. It had a welcoming, open, and friendly atmosphere. They offered a couple of daily or weekly activities. They'd have their people come in or have programs come in. They also offered daily rides to a couple of local shopping centers like Walmart and Target. The dining area at that particular time was good. The food was good. She had no complaints."

"I toured Elmbrook Village. It's a newer facility. It's only about five years old. It's very well-kept. It was spotless. In the memory care unit, the patients had huge rooms. There were suites. I couldn't believe how big they were. It was nice. Their lobby was very elegant. The residents seemed to be very happy and I liked that they had a little area to salute for veteran residents. It was just really nice. I only dealt with Mike who showed me around. He was nice. Matter of fact, he followed up twice with me already, seeing what I was up to and what I was thinking."

"I toured Commonwealth Senior Living at Haddam. It was a very good tour. They had a couple of units available, and they showed them all to us. They would have worked out because they offered more services. It was a very pretty location. The facilities were very nice. We saw people doing all different kinds of things, and the staff was very pleasant. Everybody we spoke to was very nice and accommodating. And the cook came out to meet us and asked if we had questions. It was very nice. The apartments were very nice. They were one-bedroom units with bigger kitchen areas and full-sized appliances. I liked the rooms a little better. They were a little more spacious than the other place, although they were both in very nice condition. They had just painted and put new carpets in, and so everything looked very nice."

"My dad and stepmom live at the Ivy and it is a beautiful place. They keep everyone busy. The family party's are wonderful they go above and beyond . Jamie is wonderful in the recreation department."

"My mother has been in Welles Country Village for a couple of days now, and so far everything is great. The food is good. The room is spacious and pretty. It is newly painted and has new carpeting. It has a living room, a bedroom, and a kitchenette. We coose it because you can stay there once you run out of money. "

"I was in awe when I saw this place. I don't know what I was expecting but it was beautiful. The common rooms are all beautiful and varied with TV, computers, games etc. The two apartments that I viewed had new flooring and carpet. Peaceful area out back where tenants can grow herbs and flowers. The senior center is adjacent. Just a beautiful area all together. Very impressed. Eric, who showed me around, was very personable and helpful. I will be renting there in the very very near future. "
